36. Donkey Kong Country Returns
Had a playthrough mostly done sitting for awhile and felt like sitting down today and finishing it. ... Kind of easy to forget just how thoroughly the Tiki Tong fight sucks, between just being slow as hell in pacing, being locked out of using Diddy if you die against him, and how cheap a lot of his attacks are, but it's a good game on the whole, even if I don't like it nearly as much as Tropical Freeze. Really wish they'd hurry up and release Prime 4 entirely because I want a new DKC.

25; Maquette A PS+ freebie sitting in the backlog. Started out as a charming little love story / puzzle game and {Spoiler}{Spoiler} tuned into absolute depressing nonsense, wtf?! Even the eventual closure was depressing. I absolutely hated the direction it took. Mix that with me not liking puzzle games to begin with, and this is a ZERO. 0 / 5

26: Mass Effect 1 (Legendary Edition)
Had this one almost completed back from when it released. Cool final mission, but the rest was relatively mediocre and showed its age a bit. Kind of just powered through this one without taking much in to get to the ones I have good memories of. Never played 1 back in the day, spent so many hours on 2 & 3 (even though I never beat them)

37. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
Yeah, replaying it after replaying the sequel, sue me. Kind of always liked Virtue's Last Reward more, and playing this one again I kind of see why while also still appreciating it more than I did; the biggest issue I think is how often it gets bogged down in very lengthy exposition dumps, often about things that just wind up being red herrings anyway. Combine that with how you always have to do two escape rooms in a row and VLR feels like a much breezier game despite being significantly longer.
Still, think a lot of the emotional stuff in this one registers very well and it is a pretty great cast, with a lot of stuff that you really appreciate more on a second playthrough in regards to little foreshadowing and character bits. Plus at least 999 is a pretty self-contained story compared to how VLR is pretty much an hours-upon-hours-long trailer for a game that isn't very good anyway.
That said I do kind of want to try and bum-rush Zero Time Dilemma now, but with Nirvana Initiative out in just over a week I probably won't do that for the time being, avoid burnout before then. Maybe could get back to the playthrough I had going of Danganronpa 2, that might scratch a similar itch without being quite as similar to AITSF as Zero Escape is.
Sidenote it really undercuts the big emotional post-credits scene on replaying it having a line that says, "You sound like some sort of tribal chief." Kind of just immediately started making Roman Reigns jokes in my head.

Had a slow couple of months but i've just added a few more to the list. Even more will come soon as I finally got my hands on a PS5 yesterday so i'll be doing some serious gaming for the rest of the year!
The Godfather 2 (PS3) - Fairly disappointing. It had some good ideas, I enjoyed the strategy of taking over and defending businesses and managing your family, but feel it could have been developed even further with more time and detail put into it. A disappointingly short game too.
Journey (PS4)- At times I had no idea what was going on or what it all meant, but playing it is a beautiful experience. I imagine playing this is a hell of an experience if combined with partaking in RVD's favourite hobby!
Astro's Playroom (PS5)- What an adorable platform game. It has Some of the most fun collectibles. I found a couple of things in it far more challenging that I expected, though maybe that says more about my gaming skills. And best of all it's free!
2022 List Star Wars- The Force Unleashed (PS3) Star Wars - The Force Unleashed 2 (PS3) Assassins Creed (PS3) Infamous (PS3) Infamous 2 (PS3) The Godfather 2 (PS3) Journey (PS4) Astro's Playroom (PS5)

27: Dark Pictures Anthology; House of Ashes
Meh… the entire game was like Act II of Until Dawn. Just a goofy ass QTE heavy action movie about shooting wendigos. I wasn’t a fan of it then, and wasn’t a fan of it now. Wasn’t scary at all, and I scare easily when it comes to these things. My least favorite of the trilogy so far.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge.
I'll admit I had little interest in this but last night I saw it Xbox Game Pass, so I figured why not.
Don't get me wrong its a decent Beat 'em up but after finishing it, it does feel like the games leans a bit too much on nostalgia to cover up its short comings.

28: Scarlet Nexus
Fun game, cool combat system especially when you get into a groove. The tone was always a little funny to me with this serious political war turned time travel adventure with in-between segments that almost felt dating simmy. The last act reallllly dragged unfortunately, which brings it down a little. An impulse buy when it came out last year and I was looking for PS5 games, probably could have waited on this one in retrospect.

9. Home: A Unique Horror Adventure
If I had not recently watched a video on Limited Run Games and "why it sucks," I wouldn't have discovered this game. A clip was shown and it seemed enticing. I also bought it off of the PlayStation Store for only a dollar. I mean what's the harm, right?
It turned out to be a pretty unique experience. I could see that with its pixelated graphics and use of text, that it was more like a visual novel and mostly had adventure elements. It was mostly about solving a mystery. I read that this game has different endings, but I'm now curious about going through it again to see what it could result in if I go through those in these. I wonder if there's even a good ending.
The game is really short. You could knock it out within an hour or less. It definitely was a unique experience for me.

38: AI: The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative
Okay, so I love the first game, recently did my second playthrough of it, and I'm tempted to say this game kicks the shit out of it. Pretty much was every single thing I wanted out of it, including just in terms of very specific callbacks and follow-throughs to the first game that I never expected to actually get, and there was just a lot of other great stuff to boot, really just loved this game to pieces thus why I managed to blitz through it in the span of two days. Feel like it'll be even better on a second playthrough given just how much stuff will hit differently on a second time through, while I probably won't do that soon I am very eager for my second go of it. Really can't recommend both of these games enough.

CLEARED A RUN!
Spear and the ice goddess who’s name I can’t remember. This game freakin rocks. And on an actual controller after only playing on Switch the first time I got it, feels so much better.

It’s up there with Issac and Gungeon as the best rougelite to me!

Finished Twilight Princess with my son
We've also been playing Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity so finishing that will be next, before moving on to Skyward Sword most likely

10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
After hearing a lot of positive things about this game, I knew I had to get it. Hell, I wanted it when I first heard about it. However, I was torn between getting it digitally or physically. I didn't want to have to wait, so I just downloaded it.
I have to say that this game lives up to its reputation. It's clearly a love letter to those who enjoyed the old TMNT beat-'em-ups, as well as the old 1980s-1990s cartoon as that version was the influence behind it. It was also great to hear a lot of the old voice-actors back to reprise their roles (with the exception of Shredder, though we all know why; RIP James Avery). As for the gameplay, I liked how you could pick anyone and build up their stats. I know it won't be long until I go through it again. Hell, this game made me get back into TMNT.
I also had heard that some of the team behind this game worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I can see it now because there are similarities to that game.

Beat both Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West this year with Horizon being the most recent.
Damn it'll be hard to choose a GOTY between those two. Still found the gameplay a little janky in Horizon but the story, soundtrack and gorgeous look of the game more than made up for the frustrating combat.
Elden Ring was the opposite where the plot was hard to follow but the combat more than made up for those shortcomings.
Working on Ghost of Tsushima now.

Only had 2 puzzles remaining in this one. Not a fan of puzzle games. Wouldn’t have figured the last one out without a guide. Everything moved too slow too. Another game off the backlog.

Weird. Better than Limbo. Everything felt more fluid and quicker. Still not my favorite genre though.

39. Portal
Only my second time playing through it, first time probably like a decade ago on the 360. Took the Switch version as a cue to get around to replaying it, kind of wondered about doing so for a long time anyway, and wound up enjoying it much more this time around after already liking it before. Might finally get to the sequel after this, not really sure, dabbled with it but never really actually played it.

Finally beat Final Fantasy VI for the first time. It's a game I've played a few times but just never hooked me enough to play all the way through, but I enjoyed it a lot this time. I think I did everything besides finding Gogo.

40. The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
Got Life is Strange 2 in from Gamefly - wanted to cancel it but had to renew because a game was being slow getting back to them and I didn't want to risk being out the price of the game from falling outside the week period - and figured before I finally play that thing I might as well replay this one first.
It's alright? I dunno, lot of effort put into it for what's effectively a demo and think it's well put together for the most part, but it's a pretty basic story that doesn't really have a lot of the appeal of the series and I think they kind of make Chris so quirky that he's kind of just actively annoying. The dad also seems to whiplash from seemingly genuinely trying to drunken abusive disaster way too quickly too, consequence of the limited runtime I guess but it feels like there was room for more of a gradual reveal of his true colors instead of just having a switch that gets flipped the instant he starts drinking.
I'm kind of unsure on it on the whole I think. It's really not bad at all but I can't claim to really be crazy about it.
