Today in Ring of Honor History: August 10

- 2007: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor V: Night One" in Boston, MA. In the main event, bitter enemies ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes and explosive newcomers Kevin Steen and El Generico met in a brutal Street Fight. As the match was unsanctioned, the belts were not on the line. But it did give an indication of where the feud was headed, as at the end of the match Steen introduced a ladder into their story. As a result of winning the Four Corner Survival match at "A Fight at the Roxbury" [6/8/07], Claudio Castagnoli received his first shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Takeshi Morishima. Despite scoring one of the closest two-counts in Ring of Honor history, Castagnoli came up short in his match. In the fallout of the $10,000 Challenge at "Race to the Top Tournament: Night Two" [7/28/07], Bryan Danielson and Matt Sydal met in their only singles match against each other in ROH, with Sydal's share of the prize money on the line. The No Remorse Corps had their hands full with their various feuds, with Roderick Strong and Rocky Romero teaming up to take on Austin Aries and Erick Stevens of The Resilience, while Davey Richards went solo against Jack Evans. Lacey defeated her perpetual rival Daizee Haze to become the challenger against Sara Del Rey for the SHIMMER Championship the next night. Thanks in large part to Delirious, Matt Cross won a Six Man Mayhem match against Brent Albright, Eddie Edwards, Jigsaw and Pelle Primeau. And the ongoing rivalry between Nigel McGuinness and Chris Hero saw them compete in the first Pure Rules match since the ROH Pure Championship was unified with the ROH World Championship one year earlier ["Unified" - 8/12/06]. In the opening minutes of the match, the lights went out and a cryptic message about "Project 161" was played over the sound system. As most of the build around "Project 161" was done via internet blogs or random happenings at live shows (e.g. fans finding "Abused Society" written on a bathroom mirror at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at "United We Stand" [6/22/07], fliers for "No Honor Society" being found at various shows), this marked the first time "Project 161" was actually brought up on the home release.

- 2021: On Week by Week, the ongoing saga between Dalton Castle, Dak Draper and Eli Isom continued in a singles match between Draper and Isom.

D. Sara Del Rey beat Candice LaRae

- Promo from the Briscoes inside a nurse's office, saying they don't know how Kevin Steel & El Generico talked themselves into to doing a Street Fight, but this is right up their alley. The Briscoes found a pairs of crutches and began walking around on them, saying Steen & Generico are going to need them after the match. Man up.

1. Jack Evans beat Davey Richards by disqualification. End of the match Evans climbed the top rope to finish off Richards with a 630, when the No Remorse Corps ran out and Roderick Strong shoved him off to the floor. As Rocky Romero put the boots to him, Strong told Evans he's going to end things once and for all in their Steel Cage match ["Caged Rage" - 8/24/07]. The Resilience ran out to back up Evans, and cleared the NRC from the ring. After recovering, Evans told Austin Aries he doesn't need The Resilience, he's got his own crew coming.

2. Lacey beat Daizee Haze to win a shot at the SHIMMER Championship. SHIMMER Champion Sara Del Rey came out to watch the match from the entrance ramp.

- Sweet n' Sour, Inc. came out for Chris Hero's Pure Rules match against Nigel McGuinness, and after the referee went over the standard rules for the match, Hero & Larry Sweeney announced they've added their own Pure Wrestling Commandments: 1) Thou shall not interrupt the magnificent athletic displays of an athlete the caliber the likes of a Chris Hero. 2) Thou shall not be British, otherwise said British person forfeits all rope breaks. 3) Thou shall keep your dirty limey hands off the likes of Larry Sweeney. 4) Thou shall not use closed fists or clothesline.

3. Chris Hero (w/Sweet n' Sour, Inc.) beat Nigel McGuinness in a Pure Rules match. A couple of minutes into the match all the lights in the building went out, and a voice over the sound system said "Project 161 is coming. Project 161 is real. This is Project 161. Be ready. Project 161, Project 161, Project 161…" When the lights came back on, McGuinness had no idea what was going on. Hero, meanwhile, told Bobby Cruise to announce to the referee that during the blackout, McGuinness used all three of his rope breaks. The referee didn't buy it. Mid-match Hero took down McGuinness with a Hammerlock, and had Tank Toland stick McGuinness' foot on the rope. After the referee counted it as a rope break, Hero had Bobby Cruise announce to McGuinness that it was only a Hammerlock, and therefore a waist of a rope break. A little later on, Hero distracted the referee while Sweet n' Sour, Inc. made Bobby Dempsey attack McGuinness when he was on the floor. Towards the end of the match, McGuinness nearly got a count out win by throwing Dempsey into Hero when he was on the floor. After crashing into Hero, Dempsey then fell on top of him, and was too heavy for Hero to lift off by himself. The reset of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. was able to get Dempsey off of Hero just in time for him to beat the 20 count. Finish saw Hero hit a Roaring Elbow on McGuinness and go for a pin, with Larry Sweeney then putting McGuinness' foot on the rope to use up his third rope break. Hero then got McGuinness in the Hangman's Clutch, and Nigel had no choice but to tap out. Post match, as the rest of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. was heading to the back, Tank Toland made Bobby Dempsey get in the ring and go for a Cannonball on McGuinness in the corner, but McGuinness moved out of the way. Toland got mad at Dempsey for missing and began slapping him before ultimately shoving him, which cause Dempsey to bump into McGuinness, who was knocked into the ropes for a Jawbreaker Lariat. Toland moved out of the way, so Dempsey ended up getting hit with it.

- Promo from Kevin Steen, who was sitting in a wheelchair while getting El Generico to lace up his boots. Steen says it's a shame the ROH World Tag Team Championship isn't on the line tonight in the Street Fight, as they would be leaving as new champions, but he understands why Ring of Honor made it this way. By making it unsanctioned, ROH isn't responsible for what Steen & Generico are going to do the Briscoes. They'll just have to get the belts another time, but tonight they're going to enjoy making the Briscoes bleed and causing them pain. Steen said the wheelchair he's sitting in is what the Briscoes will be leaving in. Steen then ordered Generico to push him to the bathroom.

4. Matt Cross beat Brent Albright, Delirious, Eddie Edwards, Jigsaw and Pelle Primeau in a Six Man Mayhem match. End of the match Albright gave Edwards a slingshot into the corner followed by hitting a Half-Nelson Suplex, but before he could go for the cover, Delirious pushed him to get his attention and seemingly insulted Albright's manhood. Albright got angry and chased Delirious all the way to the back, allowing Cross to hit a Shooting Star Legdrop on Edwards for the win.

5. The Resilience (Austin Aries & Erick Stevens) beat the No Remorse Corps (Roderick Strong & Rocky Romero). Aries pinned Romero after a Brainbuster/450 combo. Post match Davey Richards ran out and attacked Aries while Strong continued to attack Stevens. Matt Cross ran out for backup, but was beaten down as well, until Jack Evans made the save.

- Promo from Shane Hagadorn, saying he's learned a lot from Adam Pearce over the past year, and one of the most important lessons is that there is always a calm before the storm. Pearce hasn't been here in a little bit, but he knows everything that is going on in Ring of Honor, and right now is the calm before the storm.

- Larry Sweeney came out with Matt Sydal for his match against Bryan Danielson, and said he had some unfinished business. At "Race to the Top Tournament: Night Two" [7/28/07], Sweeney offered Sydal's services to Danielson in the $10,000 Challenge. Since whichever Briscoe was on their team (Sweeney said it was Mark, Danielson said it was Jay) took a powder, he forfeited his share, so Sweeney wants Sydal's third of the money: $3,333.34. Danielson said for the work Sydal did, he only gets $3,333.33, and Sweeney got hot. Danielson said Sweeney of all people knows wrestlers don't get retirement funds, so Danielson has invested Sydal's money on his behalf so he'll have something to live on when he's done in the ring. Sweeney asked if Danielson like cheese…because maybe he wants some cheese to go along with his whine! Sweeney doesn't care about Danielson's retirement or the fact that he doesn't have money. Sweeny and Sydal have money, and they want the money Danielson owes them right now. Danielson then offered a deal: if Sydal wins, he & Sweeney get the money tonight; if Danielson wins, he keeps Sydal's share as his own. Sydal was against the deal, but Danielson goaded Sweeney into accepting.

6. Bryan Danielson beat Matt Sydal (w/Larry Sweeney). As a result of winning, Danielson got Sydal's share of the $10,000 Challenge. Post match Sydal & Sweeney got into an argument over the money, before hugging it out.

7. Takeshi Morishima (c) beat Claudio Castagnoli to retain the ROH World Championship. Near the end of the match, Castagnoli scored an extremely close two-count after a European Uppercut/ Ricola Bomb, but referee Todd Sinclair insisted it was only two, leading to a loud "F*** you, Sinclair" chant. Morishima pinned Castagnoli after a Backdrop Driver.

- Backstage Brent Albright said Takeshi Morishima has once again proven he's a true champion by defeating Claudio Castagnoli in one of the greatest title matches Albright has ever seen. Albright watched the match to scout Morishima tonight, but Morshima didn't watch Albright's match to scout him. Albright destroyed five people tonight, and the only reason he didn't win is because of Delirious. Tomorrow night Albright is going to drop Morishima on his head with the Half-Nelson Suplex, and if he manages to survive that, Albright is going to rip Morishima's arm out of his socket with the Crowbar. Brent Albright will be leaving Philadelphia the new ROH World Champion.

8. Kevin Steen & El Generico beat The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) in a Street Fight. A huge portion of the match took place with both teams brawling in the crowd. Tables, chairs and barricades used. End of the match Steen pulled out a ladder and began using that as well. Steen pinned Jay after a Package Piledriver onto the ladder. Post match Steen said the building has transformed into a crystal ball, because what the fans saw is a clear indication of the future. Steen told the Briscoes in two weeks they're winning the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Steel Cage match ["Caged Rage"].

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 11

- 2007: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor V: Night Two" in Philadelphia, PA. As with "Night One", the show was headlined by a chaotic unsanctioned Street Fight, this time with The Resilience teaming up with Delirious to take on the No Remorse Corps and their hired help, Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s Matt Sydal. The night after their own wild Street Fight, The Briscoes found themselves facing Kevin Steen and El Generico in solo hardcore matches, as Jay took on Steen in a Lights Out match [Last Man Standing match], while Mark fought Generico in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Due to winning the Four Corner Survival match at "Domination" [6/9/07], Brent Albright challenged Takeshi Morishima for the ROH World Championship. As with the night before, Morishima barely escaped with the title, as Albright scored what was possibly an even closer two-count than Claudio Castagnoli's. Claudio Castagnoli, meanwhile, teamed up with Nigel McGuinness for the first time in ROH to take on Jigsaw and their common enemy, Sweet n' Sour, Inc.'s golden boy Chris Hero. Bryan Danielson took on CHIKARA's Mike Quackenbush in a dream match that had fans excited, as people still really liked Quackenbush at the time. After defeating Daizee Haze the night before to become the number one contender, Lacey challenged Sara Del Rey for the SHIMMER Championship, marking the first time the title was defended in ROH. Former Special K and Lacey's Angels member Deranged returned after a two year absence for one last match in Ring of Honor, facing Jack Evans. During the opening moments of their match, a member of "Project 161" jumped the guardrail and tried to spread their message, but was quickly taken out by security. And Pro Wrestling Illustrated founder Bill Apter made a special appearance acting as the backstage interviewer.

- 2012: ROH held "Boiling Point 2012" in Providence, RI. The show was originally scheduled to be a standard live event taped for DVD release, but two weeks before it was to take place, it was suddenly decided to stream it as an internet pay-per-view. As a result, the show was loudly criticized for having a weak card with no build…which, as Jim Cornette later pointed out in his "Breaking Kayfabe" shoot interview, was largely due to the fact that they didn't build anything up as the show wasn't booked to be a pay-per-view. The main event saw Kevin Steen defend the ROH World Championship against CHIKARA Grand Champion Eddie Kingston in a continuation of their feud, which, while having started in Ring of Honor, took place more in CHIKARA. With ROH World Television Champion Adam Cole taking on Brutal Bob Evans in a Proving Ground match, and the ROH World Tag Team Championship still being vacant, this marked one of the few ROH pay-per-views with only one title match. With news of her heading to WWE, Sara Del Rey wrestled what was not only her final match in Ring of Honor, but to date the final match of her career, when she teamed up with Eddie Edwards to take on Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis. The eight month long feud between Jay Lethal and The Embassy's Tommaso Ciampa came to a head with the two meeting in a Two out of Three Falls match. Whether it was meant to or not, the match brought about the end of their feud as Ciampa tore his ACL at what was literally the start of the match (he went down grabbing his knee just as they rang the bell), and would be out of action until the following May ["Border Wars 2013" - 5/4/13]. The Briscoes faced Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino of S.C.U.M. in a "Relaxed Rules" match. House of Truth member Roderick Strong squared off with Mike Mondo while his rival teammate Michael Elgan took on Charlie Haas. And future stars Matt Taven and Vinny Marseglia made their pay-per-view debuts against QT Marshal and former WWE Heart Throb Antonio Thomas in a Four Corner Survival match for a Ring of Honor contract.

- The Briscoes came out and said Mark has a Falls Count Anywhere match against El Generico while Jay has a Lights Out match against Kevin Steen. They don't care who goes down first, they're ready for a fight right now. Steen came out with Generico and said it seems the Briscoes are forgetting they've kicked their asses all around ROH, so they don't have to be called out, because there is nothing they enjoy more than beating the holy hell out of those two rednecks. Unfortunately, though, Steen can't fight right now as he promised to call his mother, so Generico is going to show them what he can do. Jay left the ring and started brawling with Generico, leading to Mark and Steen getting involved. Jay and Steen fought the back, leaving Mark and Generico to have their match.

1. El Generico beat Mark Briscoe in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Near the end of the match when both wrestlers were fighting on the floor, Kevin Steen ran out and tried to hit Mark with a ladder, but Mark saw him coming and superkicked him to block it. The distraction, though, allowed Generico to run around the ring and dive through the ropes to hit a Tornado DDT on the floor for the win. Post match Jay Briscoe ran out and tried to attack Steen, but Steen fought him off and took off for the back.

- Backstage the No Remorse Corps were getting fired up for their Street Fight, and Roderick Strong said afterwards they're going out to party. Davey Richards asked if he gets to go with them this time, but Strong told him no, he never gets to go. Rocky Romero wanted to know who their partner was, and Strong told him he got the hottest free agent in wrestling. Larry Sweeney walked over with Matt Sydal and said he didn't know how the NRC did it, but they managed to get the money, so they get Sydal for their Street Fight. Sydal said the streets are where he's from, bro, and any match with Delirious in it, you know he wants a piece.

2. Jack Evans beat Deranged. During the opening dance off, a fan in a "Project 161" shirt jumped the guardrail with a megaphone and tried to talk, but security quickly ran out and tackled him before ejecting him from the building.

3. Chris Hero & Jigsaw (w/Sweet n' Sour, Inc.) beat Nigel McGuinness & Claudio Castagnoli. At the end of the match McGuinness was fighting with Jigsaw on the floor, when he suddenly decided to go after Sweet n' Sour, Inc. and chased them to the back, which distracted the referee. Larry Sweeney grabbed Castagnoli's Race to the Top Trophy and gave it to Hero, who hit Castagnoli in the head with it and got the pin. Post match Sweeny held Castagnoli's head over the trophy while Hero climbed the top rope and hit a double stomp onto it. Hero continued to attack the bloody Castagnoli, then proceeded to destroy the trophy. McGuinness came back out and attacked Sweet n' Sour, Inc. and cleared them from the ring, before helping Castagnoli to the back.

- Promo from Bryan Danielson, saying he has a lot of respect for Mike Quackenbush. When Danielson was just starting out he learned under Reckless Youth, who told him stories about traveling around with Quackenbush. Well Danielson isn't some young wrestler anymore, he's a veteran who has been main eventing in Ring of Honor since the very first show ["The Era of Honor Begins" - 2/23/02]. Quackenbush may have a cult following and an arsenal of lucha armdrags, but he can't handle the best wrestler in the world. Tonight Mike Quackenbush is just a stepping stone in Danielson's path to once again becoming the ROH World Champion.

4. Sara Del Rey (c) beat Lacey to retain the SHIMMER Championship. Daizee Haze came out and watched the match from the entrance ramp.

- Promo from Brent Albright, saying tonight is the night he's been waiting for, while ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima wished it was the night that never came. When they get in the ring later tonight, Albright knows he'll have no problem breaking Morishima's neck with the Half-Nelson Suplex, or ripping his arm out of his socket with the Crowbar. Morishima is only going to have one question later tonight. When he faces Brent Albright, will he get out, or tap out.

5. Bryan Danielson beat Mike Quackenbush

- Backstage during intermission, Bill Apter interviewed The Resilience. Austin Aries said last night the No Remorse Corps showed they were scared when they tried to take out Aries' ankle, but they didn't get the job done. Tonight The Resilience is going to bring pain and punishment when they team with someone who Roderick Strong is very familiar with, Delirious. Delirious said…something.

- Jay Briscoe came out and said he's done waited long enough, so bring Kevin Steen's fat ass out here and let's do this thing.

6. Kevin Steen beat Jay Briscoe in a Lights Out match. Finish saw El Generico run out and attack Jay, giving him two Yakuza Kicks, followed by Steen hitting a Package Piledriver. Jay tried making it back to his feet to beat the ten count, but couldn't get up past his knees. Post match Mark Briscoe limped out with a Hornswoggle-sized ladder and cleared Steen & Generico from the ring.

7. Takeshi Morishima (c) beat Brent Albright to retain the ROH World Championship. During his ring introduction, half the fans were booing Albright. After a Half-Nelson Suplex near the end of the match, Albright got a two-count that may have been even closer than Claudio Castagnoli's the night before, but despite the fans' loud protest, the referee insisted it wasn't three. For the remainder of the match, fans were 100% (and very loudly) behind Albright. Morishima won after a Backdrop Driver. Post match the fans gave Albright a standing ovation.

- The No Remorse Corps came out together with Matt Sydal for their Street Fight, while only Matt Cross & Erick Stevens came out Delirious for their side. Roderick Strong told the fans if they didn't go online to read the results of the show from the night before, the NRC took out Austin Aries, and it looks like the coward tucked his tail and went home, where he's probably calling TNA right now trying to get his job back. Strong gave The Resilience & Delirious the choice of heading to the back and let them win by forfeit, or else getting their asses handed to them. While they were thinking it over, Austin Aries ran out through the crowd and attacked the NRC & Sydal from behind with a cane.

8. No Remorse Corps (Roderick Strong, Davey Richards & Rocky Romero) & Matt Sydal beat The Resilience (Austin Aries, Matt Cross & Erick Stevens) & Delirious in a Street Fight. Multiple prolonged periods of brawling in the crowd. Tables, ladders, chairs, used. At one point Aries got hold of a garden rake, and after hitting people with it, he did indeed pull up his opponents' shirts and use it to give them back rakes. End of the match Stevens bridged a ladder between two chairs and tried to give Strong a Doctor Bomb off the top rope through it, but Strong fought out of it and gave Stevens a top rope Half-Nelson Backbreaker through the ladder. Strong then locked in the Stronghold, and the referee stopped the match when Stevens passed out.

D. Bravado Brothers (Lancelot & Harlem Bravado) beat Mike Sydal & Jorge Santi

1. Roderick Strong (w/Truth Martini) beat Mike Mondo. Post match Mondo offered to shake Strong's hand, but Strong blew him off.

2. QT Marshall beat Antonio Thomas, Matt Taven and Vinny Marseglia in a Four Corner Survival match to win a Ring of Honor contract. Marshall pinned Taven after hitting his finisher.

- Recap of Eddie Edwards & Adam Cole vs. Mike Bennett & Brutal Bob Evans (w/Maria Kanellis) on Ring of Honor Wrestling: Ep. #44 [taped 6/29/12], and the post-match angle with Maria attacking Cole, until Sara Del Rey made her return to come to his aid.

- Brutal Bob Evans came out and said he had something to say, and finally Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis are going to let him say it: "Adam Cole, you beat me. I'm calling your butt out tonight, because Adam, you are a sweet little boy…(long pause)…But Ring of Honor and professional wrestling is a man's sport. But see, what I'm going to do is I'm going to humble you, because you have sweet, delicate little mouth suitable for pounding." [Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis should never let him speak again.]

3. Adam Cole beat Brutal Bob Evans in a Proving Ground match. Post match Mike Bennett ran out with Maria Kanellis and attacked Cole, until Eddie Edwards & Sara Del Rey made the save.

- Truth Martini came out with The House of Truth to be interviewed by Kevin Kelly (or "Kevin Smelly" as Martini called him). Martini called the HOT the greatest cohesive unit in all of pro wrestling, and just like Nostradamus, Martini can see the future. Eddie Kingston is a great athlete, but tonight Kevin Steen will retain the ROH World Championship because the destiny of the belt is for Rhino to win it for the HOT at "Death Before Dishonor X: State of Emergency" [9/15/12]. Martini then began talking about the following pay-per-view after that, but Kelly cut him off to ask about the 800 lbs. gorilla in the room, which is that Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin seemingly can't get along. Martini said there is a lot of speculation and "hoopla" (which got a prolonged chant), but Strong & Elgin are going to show everyone they're on the same page by entering the tournament that will see new ROH World Tag Team Champions crowned in Toronto, ON ["Glory by Honor X: The Unbreakable Hope" - 10/13/12]. Elgin interrupted to say that great minds think alike, and just like Martini, he too has a vision of himself leaving Toronto with ROH gold around his waist. Elgin informed Strong he signed a contract to challenge for the ROH World Championship, but Strong cut him off and yelled that Truth Martini promised him Elgin's title shot. Strong got hot at Martini for lying to him, and told him he is official on strike from The House of Truth (which made Elgin happy). Strong then told Elgin he'll be sitting ringside during his title match just to watch his fat ass fail. Strong headed to the back, and Elgin told him he could stay on strike as long as he wanted, because after Toronto, he'll be addressing Elgin as the new ROH World Champion.

4. Charlie Haas beat Michael Elgin (w/Truth Martini). Mid-match Roderick Strong came out with some beer at sat at ringside to watch and cheer on Haas, which distracted Elgin. Later on, when Haas was knocked down on the floor, Strong tried to wake him up by pouring beer in his face. After Haas got back up, Strong share some beer with him, which Haas opened right in Martini's face. Elgin then shoved Haas into the Strong, knocked both of them down. After tossing Haas back into the ring, Elgin popped open his own beer to enjoy while dumping one out on Strong. Finish saw Elgin go to pick Haas up for a Bucklebomb, but before he could Strong got up on the ring apron and spit beer in his face. Elgin let go of Haas and started to go after Strong, which allowed Haas to roll him up and pin him while holding the tights. Post match Elgin looked like he wanted to attack Martini for not controlling Strong, so Martini took off running.

- Recap of the "Anything Goes" match between the Briscoes and Kevin Steen & Jimmy Jacobs at "Brew City Beatdown" [7/14/12].

5. The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) beat S.C.U.M. (Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino) in a "Relaxed Rules" match. Jay pinned Jacobs after a Doomsday Device.

- Jay Lethal came out for Two out of Three Falls match against Tommaso Ciampa, and when he went for the pre-match handshake, Ciampa refused and sat down in the corner. RD Evans informed Lethal that Ciampa was under no legal obligation to shake his hand, but Evans would be willing to shake Lethal's hand on Ciampa's behalf. Lethal responded to that offer by slapping Evans, which pissed off Ciampa. Ciampa charged out the ring and threw one punch, then immediately fell over with a torn ACL, and rolled out of the ring just as the referee called for the bell.

6. Jay Lethal beat Tommaso Ciampa (w/RD Evans) in a Two out of Three Falls match
- Lethal pinned Ciampa after a Lethal Combination to win the first fall. 
- Ciampa pinned Lethal after a jumping knee followed by Project Ciampa to win the second fall
- Lethal pinned Ciampa to win the third fall. Near the end of the match Evans jumped up on the ring apron to distract the referee, which allowed Ciampa to hit a low blow on Lethal, who was setting up for a Lethal Injection. Prince Nana then ran out and attacked Evans, until Ciampa clotheslined him over the guardrail into the crowd. While Ciampa was getting back into the ring, the referee was distracted with what just happened to Nana, which allowed Lethal to hit a low blow. Lethal then hit a Lethal Injection for the win.

- Recap of Eddie Edwards & Sara Del Rey coming to Adam Cole's aid by chasing off Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis earlier in the show.

7. Eddie Edwards & Sara Del Rey beat Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis. Near the end of the match Edwards got Bennett in the Achilles Lock while Del Rey got Maria in the ankle lock. Maria managed to escape by pulling up the ring apron and sliding under the ring, but Del Rey followed after her. While they were under the ring, Bennett reversed out of Edwards' Achilles Lock into one of his own, but instantly let go when Del Rey crawled out and threw him Maria's torn off ring gear. Edwards then kicked Bennett into the ropes, where Del Rey kicked him in the head, and Edwards put him back in the Achilles Lock, with Bennett quickly tapping out. Post match Bennett ripped off Bobby Cruise's jacket and went under the ring to cover up Maria and escort her to the back. Big "Thank you, Sara" from the fans.

8. Kevin Steen (c) beat Eddie Kingston in a No Disqualification match to retain the ROH World Championship. S.C.U.M. initially came out with Steen, but earlier on in the match Kingston took out all three of them with a dive, then personally ejected Jimmy Jacobs & Steve Corino from ringside. Mid-match Steen bridge a table upside down (with the legs side up) between the ring and guard rail, and powerbombed Kingston through it. The match was stopped for several minutes as officials came out to check on Kingston. Steen filled the time by insulting a fan who yelled something out at him, before turning his attention to Jim Cornette, saying Cornette is smarter than he gives him credit. Steen said Cornette knows that injuries like this happen when people face him, so instead of having Ring of Honor wrestlers hurt, he's bringing in people from outside the promotion so it doesn't matter as much. The officials began stretchering Kingston to the back on a table, and Steen called them out for not going in front of the ring where it was clear, but instead going behind the ring where commentary and all the technical equipment was set up. Steen yelled at them to be careful because the iPPV feed might die at any moment, then screamed out "We did it!" when they were successful in not tripping over anything. Then Steen's mouth went and done got him in trouble: "Hey Kingston, just so you know, you dedicated this match to Larry Sweeney, buddy. And now you're leaving on a stretcher? Larry Sweeney thinks you're a f***ing pussy right now!" An angry Kingston got up and limped back to the ring to continue the match, which saw more chairs and tables used. End of the match Steve Corino ran back out to distract Kingston after he gave Steen a Backdrop Driver through a table followed by a second one through a chair. Rhett Titus ran out and attacked Corino, and fought with him to the back, at which point Jimmy Jacobs then came back out. Jacobs tried to stab Kingston in the head with the spike, but Kingston blocked it and fought him off. However, the distraction gave Steen time to recover and allowed him to hit a low blow on Kingston. Steen then gave Kingston two chair shots to the back, then set up the two chairs and gave Kingston an F-Cinq on them for the win. Post match Steen got into the face of a fan who was yelling at him. The fan then pushed Steen, so Steen punched him, and Jacobs quickly got in between them.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 11

- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Redemption" in Dayton, OH. The show's name had a double meaning, both referring to the main event. Beginning what was finally his actual last weekend in Ring of Honor, CM Punk defended the ROH World Championship in a Four-Way Elimination match against ROH Pure Champion Samoa Joe, recently returned founding father Christopher Daniels, and former WWE cruiserweight wrestler James Gibson. The nearly one-hour match saw Gibson become the new champion, which, as he put it, proved a redemption of his career. It also saw the ROH fans, who one month prior were chanting for the heel Punk to sign his WWE contract and leave the promotion ["Sign of Dishonor" - 7/8/05], readily reembrace CM Punk after he lost and chant "Please don't go". Additionally, the match reignited the longstanding feud between Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels, which would continue on for eight more months ["Better Than Our Best" - 4/1/06]. CM Punk wasn't the only one kicking off his final ROH weekend, as the recently debuted Matt Hardy returned to a much different reception since his first outing one month prior. Whereas Hardy originally received a hero's welcome from the fans after being fired by the WWE due to his real life personal issues with Edge and Lita ["The Homecoming" - 7/16/05], when he returned in Dayton to take on Homicide, fans were solidly against him and branded him a "sellout" for re-signing with the WWE and turning those issues into a storyline. Once again ROH Tag Team Champions, BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs were right back in their winning ways, retaining against Chad Collyer and Nigel McGuinness. With Generation Next's feud with Alex Shelley now escalated into a war with The Embassy, both teams went looking for new soldiers for their Six-Man Tag Team match. Generation Next found theirs in the form of Matt Sydal, who'd been having his own issues with The Embassy since the start of the year ["Third Anniversary Celebration: Part 2" - 2/25/05], while Prince Nana found his by opening his checkbook and hiring the monster Abyss. Jay Lethal took on Low Ki in a grudge match, but it did little to settle their issues. Colt Cabana squared off with Spanky, and seemed to determine that his name is a hint to his weakness, as Cabana spent a good portion of the match working over Spanky's butt. And Ace Steel came out on top in a Four Corner Survival match against Delirious, Matt Stryker and Sterling James Keenan [Corey Graves].

- 2006: ROH held "Unified" in Liverpool, England. With nearly two-thirds of the year gone and no titles changing hands, Ring of Honor's debut show in the UK guaranteed to bring that streak to a close, as ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson once again took on ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuinness, this time with both belts on the line in a title unification match. Though McGuinness had the home country support, he ultimately came up short, with Danielson being the last holder of the ROH Pure Championship until it was revived fourteen years later [ROH TV: Ep. #476 - 10/30/20]. The showdown Danielson and McGuinness had that night is regarded by many to be the greatest match the two had in their storied rivalry. Also receiving another title shot on the show were The Briscoes, who were receiving their fourth and final shot against Austin Aries and Roderick Strong for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. During the show, Doug Williams and Jody Fleisch made their respective Ring of Honor returns to face Pro Wrestling NOAH's SUWA and Go Shiozaki (in his ROH debut) in a match to determine who would challenge for the Tag titles the following night. Williams and Fleisch would win the title shot, but unfortunately they would not get to challenge for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, as Aries ended up breaking two ribs in his match against the Briscoes. On the plus side for Aries, the stolen ROH World Tag Team Championship belts were finally returned to him and Strong ["Time to Man Up" - 8/4/06]. Legendary British wrestler Robbie Brookside made a special appearance, defending the FWA British Heavyweight Championship against the returning Chad Collyer. Despite the ROH/CZW war being over, hostilities between participants hadn't stopped. After jumping the guardrail and trying to hijack the show, Chris Hero had to take on Colt Cabana, while the ROH traitor Claudio Castagnoli faced off with BJ Whitmer. The match with Hero was Cabana's second of the evening, as earlier he took part in a Four Corner Survival match with Matt Sydal and returning British wrestlers Jonny Storm and Spud (a.k.a. Drake Maverick). And after being embarrassed three times in the United States, Jimmy Rave was embarrassed internationally when he was once again defeated by ROH rookie Davey Richards.

- Promo from James Gibson, saying to put the rumors aside and look at reality. The reality is he has had three chances to become ROH World Champion and failed. Gibson has repeatedly stated what being ROH Word Champion would mean to him, and now he's been graced with a fourth chance. But to win it, he not only has to beat CM Punk, he has to beat Christopher Daniels and the most dominant champion in Ring of Honor history, Samoa Joe. Punk is a snake in the grass, and Gibson doesn't care how long he has to chase him, there is no way in hell he is going to let CM Punk leave with the title. As far as Daniels and Joe go, this could be the biggest night of Gibson's career, so he's not going to blow his fourth chance to become the number one man in the number one promotion.

- Promo from Generation Next, with Austin Aries saying when they formed a year ago, their goal was simple: they were the top young talent in wrestling, and they wanted the top spots. Well they took the top spots, and they're now the main eventers they deserve to be. Now they find themselves in a war with The Embassy, and Prince Nana keeps bringing in troop after troop to defeat them. GeNext is shorthanded with the absence of Jack Evans, so they've gone looking for the new top young talent in wrestling, and they've found it in Matt Sydal. Sydal said when he first came to ROH, he found out the hard way you need a team watching your back, and he's found it with Generation Next. Aries told The Embassy they've started something they won't be able to finish.

1. Ace Steel beat Delirious, Matt Stryker and Sterling James Keenan in a Four Corner Survival match. Steel pinned Delirious after a top rope Sitout Powerbomb.

- Promo from Christopher Daniels, saying the battle he has to fight tonight is his destiny versus his history. Since 2002 Daniels has said it is his destiny to be the ROH World Champion, but at every opportunity history has thwarted him. At "Crowning a Champion" [7/27/02], Daniels wrestled for 60-minutes and pinned Low Ki in the match to determine the first ROH Champion, yet he was denied. When Daniels was gearing up to win the title in 2004, he was taken out of Ring of Honor, and circumstances beyond his control [TNA and the Rob Feinstein controversy] kept him from achieving his destiny. Now he's back, and at "The Homecoming" [7/23/05] it seemed history would take a backseat to destiny when Daniels faced CM Punk for the title, but once again 60-minutes elapsed and Daniels was denied. Tonight is Punk's last hurrah in Ring of Honor, but if he thinks Daniels is going to let him walk out with the title, he's out of his mind. Samoa Joe and James Gibson are not factors in this equation; all that matters is Christopher Daniels is in one corner with CM Punk in the other, and the ROH World Championship is between them. Tonight Daniels will make history and achieve his destiny. CM Punk can pray for mercy, but he will not get it.

2. Colt Cabana beat Spanky. Cabana spent a good portion of the match targeting a specific part of Spanky's body (the butt), but ultimately won with one of his British wrestling pins. Post match after Cabana left, ROH World Champion CM Punk came out, and Spanky said he was just the person he wanted to see. Spanky told "Punk-a-roo" to forget what just happened with Cabana, before he leaves ROH, Spanky wants his "palsie-wal" to give him a shot at the title. Punk wanted to know if Spanky has been living under a rock; Spanky told him he lives in Orlando, and Punk said it was basically the same thing. This is his last weekend in Ring of Honor, and since they're such good pals Punk would love to give him a title shot, but seeing a Spanky will be on Velocity while Punk is on Raw, he doesn't see Spanky getting a shot at the belt. Spanky said nuts to CM Punk, you're a stinker.

- As Spanky left while fans chanted "You're a stinker" at CM Punk, Punk informed them Ring of Honor wouldn't be back in Dayton if it wasn't for him. The office didn't want to do a return trip to Dayton, but then Punk carried Samoa Joe's ass for 60-minutes in a match for the ROH World Championship ["World Title Classic" - 6/12/04], and then they had to come back because the fans wanted to see a superstar. It's not Ring of Honor that sells tickets, it's CM Punk. After this weekend, Ring of Honor is losing its World Champion, one half of its best tag team (the Second City Saints), the trainer of their school, their best commentator, and the one person who doesn't give a damn about any of the fans. CM Punk built Ring of Honor, and he's taking it and the ROH World Championship belt with him when he leaves.

3. BJ Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs (c) beat Chad Collyer & Nigel McGuinness to retain the ROH Tag Team Championship. Finish saw Collyer put Jacobs on the top turnbuckle and try to go for a top rope backdrop, but Whitmer got under him, and he and Jacobs gave a Collyer a Super Contra Code/Powerbomb combo, with Whitmer getting the pin.

- Promo from Samoa Joe, saying he spent 21 months of his life dedicated to the ROH World Championship. In the span of 2 months, CM Punk has disrespected everything Joe has ever done. Tonight, Joe takes back his belt, and more importantly, he ends CM Punk.

4. Generation Next (Austin Aries, Roderick Strong & Matt Sydal) (w/Daizee Haze) beat The Embassy (Jimmy Rave, Alex Shelley & Abyss w/Prince Nana) in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Finish saw Strong give Rave a Half-Nelson Backbreaker, followed by Aries hitting a 450 for the win. Post match Abyss laid out all three member of GeNext.

- Backstage during intermission Dave Prazak tried to interview Pelle Primeau & Antonio Blanca about what it's like training at the ROH Wrestling Academy, but Prince Nana interrupted and told Abyss attack them as well. Nana said The Embassy just showed Generation Next what they're all about, and from here on out they'll prove why they're the top faction in pro wrestling. Alex Shelley said now that the playing field is level and he's no longer fighting an uphill battle, Generation Next has learned a hard lesson that everything comes full circle.

5. Jay Lethal vs. Low Ki ended in a no contest. The referee threw out the match after Lethal and Low Ki brawled into the crowd and not only refused to his orders to return to the ring, but Low Ki went so far as to shove him out of the way in order to continue fighting. Post match Lethal kept fighting with Low Ki, until Homicide ran out and attacked him. The Rottweilers beat down Low Ki, until Matt Hardy made the save. As Lethal and Low Ki brawled to the back, fans began chanting "We want Edge" at Hardy. Hardy said no one in the building wants Edge more than him. Hardy said he didn't come here to fight some 300 lbs. greenhorn like Gene Snitsky [WWE Raw - 8/8/05], he came because he has the fight of his life in nine days [WWE "SummerSlam 2005" - 8/21/05], so before then he wants to step into the ring with the baddest hombre in Ring of Honor, and that's Homicide.

6. Matt Hardy beat Homicide. End of the match Low Ki ran out and threw a heavy chain into the ring, then distracted Hardy, which allowed Homicide to hit an Exploder Suplex. Jay Lethal ran out and took out Low Ki, then grabbed one end of the chain right when Homicide grabbed the other. Lethal and Homicide got in a tug of war with the chain, until Lethal let go, which sent Homicide backwards into Hardy, who rolled him up to win.

- ROH Pure Champion Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels and James Gibson came out for the ROH World Championship match against CM Punk, and Joe and Daniels' hostile relationship picked right back up, with the two nearly fighting each other to determine who would start the match with Punk.

7. James Gibson beat CM Punk (c), Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe in a Four-Way Elimination match to WIN THE ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
- Gibson was forced to withdraw from the match after being busted up. Midway through the match, as Punk was on the floor while the other three were wrestling in the ring, Gibson charged at Joe in the corner, but Joe caught him and threw him through the ropes into the ring post. As the referee was distracted trying to enforce the rules by getting Daniels out of the ring, Punk hit Gibson in the head with a chair, causing him to slam his head against the post and busting him open. Several referees came out to check on Gibson and help him to the back, as he was completely out of it and unable to stand up on his own.
- Daniels was eliminated by Joe. End of the fall saw Joe get Daniels in The Choke, with Daniels trying to reach the rope. The referee began dropping Daniels' arm to see if he was out, and just after it fell a second time Daniels got his foot on the bottom rope. However, Punk pushed Daniels' foot off before the referee could see it, so the ref dropped Daniels' arm a third time and ruled him out.
- Joe was eliminated by Punk. Shortly after being eliminated, Daniels regained consciousness and refused to leave. Daniels began fighting with Punk, and Joe grab hold of Punk so Daniels could hit an Enziguri, but Punk ducked and Daniels kicked Joe in the head instead. Punk then hit a low blow on Daniels to neutralize him, and rolled up Joe to eliminated him. After being eliminated, Joe and Daniels began fighting each other, while fans chanted "We want Gibson". As Joe and Daniels brawled to the back, a bloody James Gibson pushed past several referees trying to hold him back, and reentered the match.
- Punk was eliminated by Gibson. Midway through the fall Gibson dropped Punk on one of the barricades, then hit him in the knee with a chair. Finish saw Punk try to go for a Pepsi Plunge, but Gibson fought out of it and hit a Super Tiger Driver for the win. Post match Spanky led the locker room and Gibson's wife out to celebrate with him. Someone brought out some beer, and Spanky told him before he opens it, he wants to be the first one to say he wants a title shot, to which Gibson agreed. Gibson said more than "Starrcade 2000", "WrestleMania XX" and winning the WWE Cruiserweight Championship, this is the greatest night of his career. Gibson said by the standard set by his peers and the fans, being the ROH World Champion makes him the best wrestler in the world. Gibson thanked the fans, the locker room, and Cary Silkin for giving him a second chance and letting him redeem his career. Gibson then tried to help Punk up and shook his hand, which led to a "Please don't go" chant from the fans. Punk said to hell with "Please don't go", and got them to chant Gibson's name. After heading back to the locker room, Samoa Joe hugged Punk and congratulated Gibson.

- Promo from Nigel McGuinness, saying after one year, he's turned the ROH Pure Championship into the most important championship in Ring of Honor. Tonight is a night of firsts, as it is the first time ROH has gone international, and it is the first and only time the Pure title and ROH World Championship are going to be unified. The question is who will leave as champion, but McGuinness hasn't spent the past year getting dropped on his head for nothing. Tonight, Nigel McGuinness will prove what he has always said, and that is he is the best pure wrestler in the world.

- Davey Richards tried to do a promo on Jimmy Rave, but was interrupted by Austin Aries, who wanted to know if he saw anyone go into his & Roderick Strong's locker room. Aries brought the cameraman inside the locker room and found the stolen ROH World Tag Team Championship belts, along with a note reading, "These will be ours". Aries said it seems whoever took them is trying to play mind games, but mind games don't work on them. They're the best tag team in the world because they're the longest reigning Tag Champions in ROH history, and they're the ones who've defended the belts internationally and made them World titles. They don't know if the Briscoes are the ones who stole the belts, but tonight is their last shot, so they better bring their A game, because they haven't done it so far. Regardless, the belts will be coming home with Aries & Strong.

- Colt Cabana came out and welcomed the fans to Ring of Honor, and said ROH now has a second home in the United Kingdom.

1. Matt Sydal beat Colt Cabana, Jonny Storm and Spud in a Four Corner Survival match. Sydal pinned Spud after a Shooting Star Press. Post match after the wrestlers left, Chris Hero ran out through the crowd and hijacked the ring, saying whenever ROH plans on holding an historic event, you can be damn sure he'll plan on ruining it. Cabana ran back out and attacked Hero, who quickly bailed and ran out through the crowd. Cabana said they may be 3,000 miles from the US, but this is still Ring of Honor, and people like Hero aren't welcome.

- Prince Nana came out and said he is finally in this trash hole England, and the English fans are just as bad as the American fans, as they have no class and no respect for royalty. Nana then introduced Jimmy Rave, who fans demonstrated their respect to by showering him with toilet paper.

2. Davey Richards beat Jimmy Rave (w/Prince Nana)

- Promo from the Briscoes, saying third time's the charm. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong may have beat the Briscoes the previous times they've challenged for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, but that's because the first time Aries & Strong cheated ["Ring of Homicide" - 5/13/06], and the second time Aries & Strong got lucky ["Destiny" 6/3/06]. Tonight the Briscoes are winning the belts, and they can't wait to get the hell out of England and take them home. The food here sucks, they hate the way the people talk, and everything about England is terrible. Oh, and when they do leave and get back to the US, it's gonna be time for KENTA to man up.

3. BJ Whitmer beat Claudio Castagnoli. Castagnoli attacked Whitmer as he was getting in the ring. After a good deal of brawling on the floor and in the crowd, finish saw Whitmer go to pick up Castagnoli for a powerbomb, but Castagnoli tried to block by standing up and giving Whitmer a backdrop. However, Whitmer held on and rolled through with a sunset flip, then bridged over for the pin. Post match Chris Hero ran out through the crowd and attacked Whitmer, and the Kings of Wrestling beat him down until Colt Cabana made the save. As Whitmer and Castagnoli brawled to the back, Cabana got on the microphone and once again told Hero he wasn't welcome in ROH. However, since he is here, why doesn't Cabana beat his ass in an official, sanctioned match. Hero said no and tried to leave, but Cabana ran over and attacked him, before throwing him into the ring and ringing the bell himself.

4. Colt Cabana beat Chris Hero

- Promo from ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson, saying the time for talking is done. Tonight is a special night, as not only is Ring of Honor going international for the first time (with, of course, Danielson being the World Champion), but they are unifying the World Championship and ROH Pure Championship. Nigel McGuinness has done a lot of talking over the past few months, but Danielson is going to shut him and prove he is the best wrestler in the world.

5. Doug Williams & Jody Fleisch beat SUWA & Go Shiozaki to win a shot at the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Williams pinned Shiozaki after a Chaos Theory. Post match SUWA hit Williams & Fleisch in the head with the end of a kendo stick, before repeatedly whacking Shiozaki across the back with it. Williams tripped SUWA went he went to run the ropes, which allowed Fleisch to hit a springboard dropkicked, followed by Shiozaki superkicking him out of the ring.

- Backstage BJ Whitmer said it's finally over as he has slayed all the demons who have been haunting him over the past seven months. At "War of the Wire II" [7/28/06], Whitmer beat Necro Butcher in his own game, a No Rope Barbed Wire match, to finally run him out of Ring of Honor for good. And tonight, Whitmer gave Claudio Castagnoli the receipt he's had coming. Now it's time for Whitmer to find some new competition and set new goals, starting with getting gold back around his waist.

6. Robbie Brookside (c) beat Chad Collyer to retain the FWA British Heavyweight Championship

7. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong (c) beat The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) to retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship. End of the match the Briscoes went for a Springboard Doomsday Device on Aries, but Aries ducked when Mark went for the clothesline, then took out Jay with a reverse hurricanrana. However, when Aries went back, he landed really low and sideways (he actually landed below his shoulder), which caused him to break some ribs. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}- After introducing both wrestlers for the main event title unification match (which included Bryan Danielson insisting he be introduced as being "even better than The Beatles"), Bobby Cruise announced the rules for the match. In addition to the standard Pure Rules, it was announced both championships could change hands on a count out or disqualification. Additionally, in the event of a double pin, double count out, or double disqualification, the match will be restarted.

8. Bryan Danielson (c) beat Nigel McGuinness (c) via referee's decision to retain the ROH World Championship and WIN THE ROH PURE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Towards the end of the match (in one of the most infamous spots in McGuinness' career), Danielson grabbed McGuinness' arms when they were fighting on the floor and repeatedly pulled him head first into the ring post until he was badly busted open. Danielson later got busted open after he and McGuinness took turns repeatedly headbutting each other. Not long after, the referee stopped the match when Danielson trapped McGuinness arms and repeatedly elbowed him in the head until he was knocked out (which got a "Bullshit" chant from the fans). Post match Danielson said all these pathetic Englishmen seem to think McGuinness is a pretty tough guy, but the truth is that was the hardest match he's had since becoming ROH World Champion. Danielson said he wasn't saying that to appease the idiot fans, but because he thinks McGuinness deserves one more shot at the title. McGuinness said he'd love to kick his Yankee ass one more time, so he's got it.

- In a breaking news update, it was announced that Austin Aries was taken to the hospital after suffering a serious rib injury in the closing minutes of his match. As a results, several matches for tomorrow night are now in question.

- Backstage Nigel McGuinness said he could safely say that was the toughest match of his goddamn life. McGuinness may not have taken the ROH World Championship, but what he did take is pride and respect for this business. McGuinness told Bryan Danielson if he thought tonight was something, he better be ready for St. Paul ["Epic Encounter II" - 8/25/06], because McGuinness is bringing that and more. Be ready, sunshine.

- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Punk: The Final Chapter" in Chicago Ridge, IL. Two months after he first teased it at "Death Before Dishonor III" [6/18/05], the time had finally come for CM Punk's actual farewell from ROH. For his final match, Punk took on his (then) best friend and the man who he debuted with three years earlier ["Unscripted" - 9/21/02], Colt Cabana, in a Two out of Three Falls match. However, what should have been a good night for the Second City Saints was not all sunshine and rainbows, as earlier in the evening their friend and trainer Ace Steel was badly busted open in a match with Chad Collyer. That match began a seven month long feud between Steel and Collyer which would ultimately see them compete in ROH's first First Blood match. After winning the ROH World Championship the night before, James Gibson was on the hunt for more gold when he teamed with his friend Spanky to challenge BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs for the ROH Tag Team Championship, but came up short when his old pal stabbed him in the back and cost them the match. Roderick Strong scored what was the biggest victory of his career thus far when he defeated WWE Superstar^® Matt Hardy, who was making the final appearance of his first ROH run. Locked in a bitter feud, Jay Lethal teamed with his mentor Samoa Joe against Low Ki and his fellow Rottweiler Homicide in a match that deteriorated into a flat out brawl. And the war between Generation Next and The Embassy saw them go at it in two separate matches, as Austin Aries took on Jimmy Rave in a grudge match, while Matt Sydal and Alex Shelley competed in a Four Corner Survival match with Delirious and Nigel McGuinness.



- 2006: ROH closed out their first international tour with "Anarchy in the U.K." in Broxbourne, England. Due to Austin Aries breaking his ribs the night before, the show saw a major reshuffling of the planned card, as Aries and Roderick Strong were originally scheduled to defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Doug Williams and Jody Fleisch. Their 56-minute epic at "Supercard of Honor" [3/31/06] was supposed to be the end of their story, with their championship rivalry being a trilogy, but in need of a make up for the fans, Roderick Strong wound up receiving a fourth shot at Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship. The match was the shortest of their encounters, just hitting the twenty-minute mark (their previous shortest was the first match of their trilogy ["This Means War" - 10/29/05], which lasted nearly 40 minutes). This was in part due to the fact it was Danielson's second title defense of the evening, as earlier in the show he successfully retained the belt against SUWA from Pro Wrestling NOAH. Now no longer challenging for the Tag titles, Doug Williams filled his time by taking on Jimmy Rave, while his scheduled tag team partner Jody Fleisch took part in a Three-Way match with fellow British wrestlers Jonny Storm and Spud. Still looking to cause trouble in Ring of Honor, the Kings of Wrestling found an ally in Chad Collyer, but came up short in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Colt Cabana, Nigel McGuinness and Robbie Brookside. Appearing on and off in ROH since 2002 ["Night of the Butcher" - 12/7/02], that match saw the final appearance of Chad Collyer in Ring of Honor (Collyer would make a handful of appearances in 2010, but did so under a mask as The Metal Master). Matt Sydal (who in 2006 was branded a "tag whore" by this forum) teamed with Davey Richards (the eighth person he'd teamed with thus far in the year) to take on The Briscoes in a one-off match. And Pro Wrestling NOAH's Go Shiozaki wrestled his first singles match in Ring of Honor, squaring off with BJ Whitmer.

- 2011: ROH kicked off a new chapter when they held their inaugural television taping for their new owners, Sinclair Broadcasting Group, in Chicago Ridge, IL. An historic night, Ring of Honor went all out with three big title matches (with HDNet, the first three tapings saw the champions compete in non-title matches). In Episode #1, the Kings of Wrestling challenged Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in what was their last shot at the title, as it was Claudio Castagnoli's final match in Ring of Honor before leaving for WWE. It was presumed Chris Hero was also signing with WWE, but his journey there took a bit longer. Nevertheless, he too would disappear from ROH for several months, before briefly returning at the end of the year ["Final Battle 2011" - 12/23/11]. Likewise, the King's entourage of Sara Del Rey and Shane Hagadorn also disappeared after the taping, with Hagadorn returning one last time for an angle with Hero at "Homecoming 2012" [1/20/12], while Del Rey would be gone for ten months before briefly returning for a short feud with Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis [ROH TV: Ep. #44 - taped 6/29/12]. In Episode #2, El Generico's reign as ROH World Television Champion came to an end in his first defense, as Jay Lethal defeated him to become TV Champion for the first time. And in Episode #3, Davey Richards defended the ROH World Championship against his one-time friend turned longtime rival Roderick Strong. The World title match would not be the only showdown between The American Wolves and The House of Truth on the tapings, as Eddie Edwards squared off with Michael Elgins in a rematch from "Defy or Deny" [3/18/11]. The feud between The All-Night Express and The Briscoes saw them compete in a match that was supposed to determine the number one contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship (the title shot was later held up due to the manner in which the match was won). Steve Corino's issues with Mike Bennett continued by proxy, with Corino's sponsor Jimmy Jacobs taking on Bennett in a singles match. And Adam Cole and Kyle O'Reilly, who in just a couple years' time would be two of the top stars in the company, lived up to their Future Shock name by defeating the Bravado Brothers to win the first match on the debut episode of the new Ring of Honor.

- 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Holidead and Max the Impaler competed in the final opening round match of the ROH Women's World Championship Tournament, while the main event saw various warring factions forced to try to coexist in the 2021 Champions vs. All Stars match. The Champions: ROH World Champion Bandido, ROH Pure Champion Jonathan Gresham of The Foundation, ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee of La Facción Ingobernable, and ROH World Tag Team Champions Homicide and Chris Dickinson of VLNCE UNLTD. - 2009: Ring of Honor kicked off another round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. Pro Wrestling NOAH's KENTA made what would be his final trip to Ring of Honor, and kicked things off by teaming with Bryan Danielson and Roderick Strong in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Chris Hero and the ROH World Tag Team Champions The American Wolves [KENTA was scheduled to return to ROH at "Supercard of Honor XIV" (4/4/20), but the show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic]. ROH World Champion Austin Aries, in an effort to give more up and coming wrestlers a shot at the title [he was definitely not trying to weasel out of having to face serious challengers], used his patented "Lucky Lottery" system (picking names out of a hat) to select Grizzly Redwood to be his challenger for the evening, marking Redwood's only shot ever for the ROH World Championship. The feud between Brent Albright and Claudio Castagnoli, which had been raging since the beginning of the year, came to an end when the two met in a Steel Cage match. Though their storyline came to an end, their respective allies' kept going, as Colt Cabana took on Joey Ryan, while Necro Butcher faced Jimmy Rave. All in all, it was an unsuccessful night for The Embassy, as the only match they won was when Bison Smith squashed former Embassy lacky Sal Rinauro. After being uneasy partners earlier in the year, The Briscoes were back to being rivals against Kevin Steen and El Generico, with the two teams facing off for the first time in nearly a year ["Rising Above 2008" - 11/22/08]. Jerry Lynn and Tyler Black teamed up to take on Rhett Titus and Kenny King. Hot new tag team The Young Bucks faced their first true test on HDNet, squaring off with the Dark City Fight Club. Sonjay Dutt faced Alex Payne, Erick Stevens squashed Brando Day, and Sara Del Rey wrestled Nikki Roxx.

- 2008: Ring of Honor held "Age of Insanity" at Gray's Armory in Cleveland, OH. First Delirious was publicly sent packing to the friend zone by Daizee Haze ["Death Before Dishonor VI" - 8/2/08]. Next, after sharing it with the rest of the locker room, Rhett Titus finally showed Delirious his cell phone video, which heavily he and Haze had done the deed. Even a lizard-man can only be pushed so far, and a depressed Delirious turned to the one group who would accept him, The Age of the Fall. Forgoing his traditional green for all black, the now heel Delirious took out his hurt and frustration on Titus before being quickly put to work against The Age of the Fall's other enemies. After attacking Austin Aries following his "Age of the Falls Rules" match against Tyler Black, Delirious teamed with ROH World Tag Team Champion Jimmy Jacobs against The Briscoes. While it was a depressing night for one masked man, it was an exciting night for another one, as El Generico was receiving his first shot ever at the ROH World Championship, challenging Nigel McGuinness. Though Generico was unsuccessful in his match, his partner Kevin Steen wasn't, defeating Jigsaw. It was a night of losses for The Vulture Squad, and a night of victories for Sweet n' Sour, Inc., as Adam Pearce got the win over Jigsaw's tag team partner Ruckus, while Chris Hero and Go Shiozaki bested Roderick Strong and Brent Albright. With his three recent attempts at the ROH World Championship failing, Claudio Castagnoli tried his hand at the FIP World Heavyweight Championship, but his new bad attitude cost him his match against Erick Stevens. And Kenny King was quickly put to the test after joining the roster full time, squaring off with Bryan Danielson.

- 2009: ROH closed out their latest round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. ROH World Champion Austin Aries' attempt to weasel out of a legitimate challenger by using his "Lucky Lottery" system to select Alex Payne was unsuccessful, as he was forced to make a second defense, this time against his longtime rival Bryan Danielson. The ROH World Tag Team Champions The American Wolves tried to stave off a number of potential challengers by taking part in the Tag Team Honor Rumble, but were unsuccessful when they last eliminated by The Briscoes. In what would be his final match, KENTA ended his Ring of Honor career on a high note by defeating Chris Hero. Jerry Lynn's issues with Kenny King took a nasty turn when, after a cheap win, King and Rhett Titus tried to end his career with a Spiked Piledriver. The attack was not as successful as they'd hoped, but it did keep Lynn out of action for several months (at least in ROH), as he wouldn't return until January to continue their feud ["SoCal Showdown" - 1/29/10] Titus, for his part on the tapings, had his hands full with Tyler Black. As part of his feud with The Embassy, Necro Butcher took on Bison Smith for the first time. Meanwhile, fellow Embassy member Joey Ryan squared off with Roderick Strong. It was "Double C" against "Double C" as Colt Cabana wrestled Claudio Castagnoli. Sonjay Dutt cheated his way to victory in a match against Delirious, starting a mini-feud between the two. Nigel McGuinness squashed Sal Rinauro, and Eddie Kingston did likewise against Kyle Matthews. And Ring of Honor founding mother Allison Danger competed in an ROH ring for the final time, facing Sara Del Rey in a dark match.

- 2010: After a nearly two year run, Adam Pearce was out as booker for Ring of Honor. After numerous disagreements between Pearce and ROH vice president Syd Eick, owner Cary Silkin was put in a position where he was forced to keep one and lose the other, and made the decision to keep Eyck, his longtime business manager. Delirious was chosen to be the new head booker, with Jim Cornette contributing heavily.

- 2014: ROH moved outdoors for "Field of Honor" in Brooklyn, NY. Ring of Honor took over MCU Park's annual wrestling night, which for the past four years was done by TNA. After holing the belt for nearly two months, Michael Elgin faced his biggest test yet as ROH World Championship, defending it in a Four Corner Survival match against reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles and former ROH World Champions Adam Cole and Jay Briscoe. The Addiction received their second shot at the ROH World Championship in as many months, challenging reDRagon in a rematch from "Best in the World 2014" [6/22/14]. Matt Taven's feud with The House of Truth came to an end when he challenged Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship in a Steel Cage match. #TheNewStreak continued as RD Evans teamed with Moose against the formidable duo known as Brutal Burgers. The Decade rolled together in full force in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Will Ferrara, Johnny Knockout and Ken Phoenix. Rocky Romero squared off with Michael Bennett, Mark Briscoe took on Takaaki Watanabe, ACH faced Cedric Alexander, and Tommaso Ciampa wrestled Silas Young.

ADAM PEARCE ISSUES STATEMENT TO PWINSIDER.COM REGARDING RING OF HONOR DEPARTURE

Former Ring of Honor booker and current NWA champion Adam Pearce issued the following statement to PWInsider.com after being contacted for comment on his departure:

Oil and water don’t mix.

Cary Silkin gave me the chance to live a lifelong dream two years ago, and I will forever be grateful to him for having the faith in me to give me that opportunity. I’ve never had a better boss, probably never will, and I’m glad to be able to call him my friend. I’ve certainly never met a more generous person, and I wish him personally nothing but the prosperity that I believe he deserves.

Ring of Honor has always represented to me what the “future” of professional wrestling could be, and it is my sincere hope that through the continued tremendous partnership with HDNet that that “future” may one day be realized.

I have never been more proud to be part of a locker room, and I want to publicly thank each and every member of the ROH roster, contracted and otherwise, for working so hard with me to make this year a huge creative success. You all allowed me to grow into a position that I was unqualified for, stayed with me every step of the way - low and high, and at the end of the day made the stories in my head come to life better than anyone else ever could have. You are the most creative and hardest working locker room in the industry, and you all deserve more than what is available to you now. I’m happy to have spoken to all of you in the last 24 hours or so, and I terribly wish that I was going to be with you all at TV this weekend.

I want to publicly acknowledge and applaud the efforts of David Lagana, who in my opinion deserves more credit and praise for his contributions to the company than he has ever received, and it is my hope that he continues to work with HDNet to produce the television product that he and I have worked so hard on since it began. I give thanks to Adam Swift and Andrew Simon at HDNet for their network support during my tenure, as well as to Scott Ferrier and Andy Edwards - the unknown magicians that make our TV world go ‘round. Thanks to all of our camera and lighting crews and everyone else that brought ROH to the television stage. I will always appreciate the hard work you’ve done and what you’ve all made possible for me.

So many people deserve thanks now that this chapter of my life has come to an end. Guys like Chris Maurer for all of his work on the creative end of things. His written word helped to bring my stories to life, and his hard work in so many of the ‘not-so-glamorous’ areas of the company need to be acknowledged. Bobby Cruise is more important to the ROH production than anyone really knows and I thank him for being my ‘right hand man’. Wayne Fitzgerald and Mary Gage deserve credit for their stalwart efforts, making the music and lights do what we need. Thank you both.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t publicly thank Jimmy Cornette for being the best mentor I could have ever asked for, and an even better friend. If any man could have upstaged me and went over my head to do things his way, it was him, but to his credit he NEVER once did. He stood by me and allowed me to be the boss, for better or worse, and I’ll always remember that. I hope he can be the same for Delirious, who now finds himself in that very scary and exciting spot. I wish them both nothing but the best; I’m sure we’ll cross paths again.

I’ve loved nearly every single second of my time with Ring of Honor, regardless of the capacity. Perhaps one day I’ll be back again. But if not, I am humbled and appreciate all that my time in the company has taught and afforded me.

The wrestling in Ring of Honor always has been (and in my opinion, always will be) second to none, and if/when the end truly does come for the company, the wrestling won’t be the reason why. The way I see it there are two sides to the Ring of Honor coin: The ‘creative/in-ring’ side, and the ‘business’ side.

The ‘water’ and the ‘oil’.

No matter how long and no matter whom does the stirring, they don’t ever seem to truly mix the right way.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 16

- 2003: Ring of Honor held "Bitter Friends, Stiffer Enemies" in Fairfield, CT. For months Low Ki had warned Dan Maff he would have to answer for joining The Prophecy ["The Epic Encounter" - 4/12/03], and now at last his day of reckoning was here. The match ended up being shorter than people expected, as eleven minutes in Low Ki gave Maff a springboard enziguri that legitimately knocked Maff out and brought everything to a halt. That match wasn't the only one of the night to see serious injuries, as after six months of waiting, Homicide finally got his rematch against Steve Corino ["One Year Anniversary Show" - 2/8/03], and this time it was No Holds Barred. Early in the match, Corino was left permanently deaf in his left ear after Homicide caught him with a stiff slap and popped his eardrum. That match was also notable for having the ROH debut of Bobby Cruise, who was brought in as Corino's personal ring announcer. As Corino's announcer, Cruise's gimmick was that he would always read off a ridiculously long list (pausing halfway to get some water), which would drag Corino's introduction out for several minutes. That night's list: every single championship Steve Corino had won in professional wrestling. The match with Corino was Homicide's second of the evening, as he opened the show by show by teaching Prince Nana who's really king in Ring of Honor. Unbeknownst to the fans that night, they got to see a preview of what would be one the biggest and most important rivalries in ROH history, as ROH World Champion Samoa Joe and CM Punk faced each other for the very first time. That night was a busy one for Punk, as in addition to his match, he put on his detective hat and tried to solve the mystery of who attacked Lucy ["Wrath of the Racket" - 8/9/03]. The answer to where Xavier's loyalties lie were answered when he took on his former Prophecy leader Christopher Daniels for the Number One Contender's Trophy. BJ Whitmer and Matt Stryker both earned a spot in the upcoming Field of Honor tournament, as they wrestled each other to a time limit draw in their qualifying match. Despite being surrounded by people who hated their guts, Special K came out on top when they defeated The Backseat Boyz, the Carnage Crew and The S.A.T. in a Tag Team Scramble match. British wrestler Jonny Storm made his second and final US appearance for Ring of Honor, taking part in a Four Corner Survival match against Slyk Wagner Brown and Special K members Deranged and Hydro. The Purists squashed The Ring Crew Express, and Alexis Laree (Mickie James) wrestled her last women's match in Ring of Honor, defeating Becky Bayless.

- 2008: ROH held "Night of the Butcher II" in Chicago Ridge, IL. At "Vendetta II" [6/28/08], Austin Aries defeated Jimmy Jacobs to earn the right to book any match he wanted for this evening. Aries quickly decided Jacobs would have to face fellow Age of the Fall member Necro Butcher in a No Disqualification match, and spent the next month and a half trying to get into Necro's head. Aries' efforts worked, as Necro chose his family over The Age of the Fall and refused to withdraw from the match, resulting in him being the first of many to leave the group and become their own man. Aries, meanwhile, would team with Bryan Danielson against ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness and his new ally Claudio Castagnoli. In a buildup to their inevitable showdown, El Generico took on ROH World Tag Team Champion Tyler Black in a singles match. Wanting to get his hands on Larry Sweeney, Roderick Strong was given a tall order of first having to face pretty much the entirety of Sweet n' Sour, Inc. in a Gauntlet match. Starting with an absolutely brutal beating of Bobby Dempsey, Strong went through each of them one by one to get the boss fight, but patented Sweet n' Sour, Inc. chicanery resulted in Larry Sweeney strutting his way to victory. It was a sweet moment in an otherwise sour night for the group, as Chris Hero failed to defeat Erick Stevens for the FIP World Heavyweight Championship, while Go Shiozaki also came up short in challenging Brent Albright for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Kevin Steen took on Kenny King, and The Vulture Squad won a Tag Team Scramble match against The Briscoes, the Phoenix Twins, and Mitch Franklin and Trik Davis. After after joining The Age of the Fall the night before, Daizee Haze and Pelle Primeau tried get through to Delirious, but it did not going as planned. At the behest of Jimmy Jacobs, Delirious utterly destroyed Primeau, bringing an end to his Ring of Honor career.

- 2018: ROH made their second trip of the year to the United Kingdom, kicking off the "Honor Re-United" tour in Edinburgh, Scotland. With no New Japan wrestlers this time around, Ring of Honor put more emphasis on the UK wrestlers by holding the International Cup. The tournament saw four ROH wrestlers and four UK wrestlers compete in an Eight-Man tournament, with the winner receiving a shot at the ROH World Championship on the final night of the tour. The four opening round matches saw Adam Page versus Joe Hendry, Christopher Daniels versus the debuting Jimmy Havoc, Flip Gordon versus the debuting Kip Sabian, and Jonathan Gresham versus Mark Haskins. Australian wrestler Adam Brooks made his Ring of Honor debut, taking on ROH World Champion Jay Lethal in a non-title match. In February 2020, Brooks signed a contract to compete fulltime with ROH, but just before he was set to make his return at the "18th Anniversary" [3/13/20], the borders were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ROH subsequently went on hiatus. As a result, Adam Brooks' has arguably the weirdest ROH career, as the only time he wrestled for them was a year and half before being signed to a contract. In a women's showcase match, Kay Lee Ray (a.k.a. NXT's Alba Fyre) took on STARDOM's SWA World Champion Viper (a.k.a. Doudrop) in a non-title match. And in a quasi-Champions' Challenge match, the main event saw ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks team up with their Bullet Club partner Marty Scurll to defeat ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes and ROH World Television Champion Punishment Martinez in a Six-Man Tag.

- 2019: MCW Pro Wrestling partnered with Ring of Honor to hold "Future of Honor I" in Joppa, MD. The show featured several wrestlers who either were wrestling for ROH, or would later go on to wrestle for ROH. The main event saw MCW' Brandon Scott challenge Dante Caballero for the MCW Heavyweight Championship. The match was Scott's second of the evening, as earlier in the show he defeated ROH's Brian Johnson. The soon to be 2019 Top Prospect winner Dak Draper won a Four-Way match over Austin Gunn, Joe Keys and Ken Dixon. Primal Fear took on Hyena Hexx and Rush Hour in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Trish Adora came out on top in a Three-Way match against Aria Palmer and Kaitlin Diemond, while Amy Rose stepped into the ring to take on Gia Scott. Eric Martin faced Rayo, and Rob Locke (CHIKARA's bicycle enthusiast Donald Kluger) wrestled Irish Jack.

- 2020: Ring of Honor founding father John "Xavier" Bedoya, Jr. passed away at the age of 42. During his tenure, Xavier was the second ROH Champion, a member of The Prophecy, and the first wrestler Prince Nana signed for The Embassy. After leaving ROH in 2004, Xavier made a last minute surprise return to challenge Bryan Danielson for the ROH World Championship at "Unscripted II" [2/11/06] (coincidentally Xavier won the title at the first "Unscripted" [9/21/02]), before returning one year later for what would be his final appearance, competing in a Four-Way Fray at "Fifth Year Festival: NYC" [2/16/07]. Five months before his death, Xavier was scheduled to return to Ring of Honor as part of "Past vs. Present" [3/14/20] , but the show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 17

- 2013: Ring of Honor held "Manhattan Mayhem V" in New York, NY. Just like the Forever Hooligans before them, The America Wolves' reign as ROH World Tag Team Champions came to an end in their first defense when they were defeated by reDRagon in what was the final match of their feud. The celebration for reDRagon's second reign was cut short, however, when the Outlaw, Inc. (Homicide and Eddie Kingston) ran out and attacked them. Outlaw, Inc.'s singing was announced earlier in the evening, when the two made their respective returns and defeated Marshall Law. In a first time match that would soon become a frequent pairing in New Japan, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions the Forever Hooligans took on The Young Bucks in a non-title match. The quarter finals of the ROH World Championship tournament concluded, with Kevin Steen advancing over Roderick Strong, Michael Elgin advancing over Karl Anderson, and Tommaso Ciampa advancing over Michael Bennett. After four months on the shelf with an injury, Mike Mondo returned to kick off the final part of his Ring of Honor run, facing ROH World Television Champion Matt Taven in a Proving Ground match. C&C Wrestle Factory took on Adrenaline RUSH in what was the first Tag Team Scramble match in five years ["Driven 2008" - 9/19/08], and Silas Young faced rising newcomer Adam Page.

- 2021: Three weeks after their singles match ended in a double disqualification [ROH TV: Ep#514 - 7/23/21], Danhausen tried to get PCO and Steve (or as most people call him Sledge) to work together on Week by Week in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Primal Fear.

2. C&C Wrestle Factory (Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander) beat Adrenaline RUSH (ACH & Tadarius Thomas) in a Tag Team Scramble match. Finish saw Coleman give ACH a top rope hurricanrana, followed by Alexander hitting a Frog Splash.

3. Matt Taven (w/The House of Truth) beat Mike Mondo in a Proving Ground match. After fighting back after interference from the HOT and preventing Taven from hitting him with The Book of Truth, finish saw Mondo go for a diving headbutt, but Taven got his foot up and kicked him in the head. Taven then hit a Climax for the win.

4. Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) beat The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Koslov pinned Nick after a Contract Killer.

- Marshall Law came out, and RD Evans said there is a lot of injustice going on in Ring of Honor. For example, ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness has tried to wash his hands of Veda Scott's injured at the hands of MsChif [ROH TV: Ep. #94 - taped 6/23/13]. Another injustice is that The American Wolves, Forever Hooligans and Adrenaline RUSH all had matches booked for the show, but Marshall Law did not. Well RD Evans doesn't run from injustice, he confronts it, and tonight he is taking a stand and refusing to leave the ring until they get a match. Prince Nana, who was on commentary, announced he was new talent scout for Ring of Honor, and his first order of business was to sign two guys who are going to end Evans & QT Marshall right now: Homicide & Eddie Kingston.

5. Outlaw, Inc. (Homicide & Eddie Kingston) beat Marshall Law (QT Marshall & RD Evans). Finish saw Homicide give Marshall an Ace Crusher, followed Kingston hitting a sliding elbow to the back of the head and getting the pin. Post match Homicide told Evans he wanted to follow the Code of Honor and shake his hand, only to trap his arm and break Evans' fingers.

- Last Remaining Pinnacle did a live performance of Tommaso Ciampa's theme music as he came out for his match.

6. Tommaso Ciampa beat Michael Bennett to advance to the semifinals of the ROH World Championship tournament. Finish saw Ciampa give Bennett a Kryptonite Crunch on the floor, then rolled him into the ring to pin him.

7. Kevin Steen beat Roderick Strong to advance to the semifinals of the ROH World Championship tournament

8. Michael Elgin beat Karl Anderson to advance to the semifinals of the ROH World Championship tournament

9. reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish) beat The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) (c) to WIN THE ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Near the end of the match Edwards climbed the top rope for a Double Stomp on O'Reilly, but Fish pushed him off the turnbuckle and through the timekeeper's table, which took him out for the rest of the match. Shortly after that, reDRagon tried to break Richards arm by having Fish pull him arm over the guardrail while O'Reilly hit a running dropkick off the ring apron. Suddenly Outlaw, Inc. ran out and attacked them, with Eddie Kingston disposing of Fish while Homicide broke O'Reilly's fingers.

- 2006: Frontier Wrestling Alliance and IPW:UK partnered with Ring of Honor to hold "Frontiers of Honour 2" in Swanley, England. As with FWA's origin "Frontiers of Honor" [5/17/03], the show consisted (mostly) of interpromotional matches between the two British promotions and ROH. In the main event, ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson emerged victorious in a Three-Way match against FWA British Heavyweight Champion Robbie Brookside and IPW:UK Champion Martin Stone. ROH World Tag Team Champions Austin Aries and Roderick Strong were not as fortunate, losing to FWA's Doug Williams and James Tighe in a Three-Way Tag Team match also involving IWP:UK Tag Team Champions The Untouchables. Nigel McGuinness took on IPW:UK's JC Thunder in a World of Sports Rules match. The Briscoes wrestled FWA's Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm for the first time. Colt Cabana squared off with FWA's Darren Burridge, while IPW:UK's Ashley Reed won a Six-Way Scramble match over FWA's Aviv Maayan and Mark Sloan, ROH's BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Rave, and fellow IPW:UK wrestler Paul Robinson. And in the oddest "interpromotional" pairing of the night, Matt Sydal represented IPW:UK (despite never wrestling there before) in a singles match against ROH's Davey Richards.

- 2017: Ring of Honor partnered with CMLL, New Japan and RevPro to kick off the "War of the Worlds UK" tour in London, England. The main event saw the Bullet Club take on Los Ingobernables de Japón in full force in a Ten-Man Tag Team match. In an super interpromotional showdown, CMLL's Titan challenged New Japan's KUSHIDA for Ring of Honor's World Television Championship. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dalton Castle and The Boys also found themselves in an international showdown, defending the titles against ROH's Delirious, New Japan's Jushin Liger, and CMLL's Mistico (the second one, not the one who became Sin Cara). Jay Lethal and Silas Young's feud continued across the pond when they took part in a Four Corner Survival match with Bully Ray and British wrestler Sha Samuels. Jay Briscoe took on Kenny King, while Mark Briscoe faced RevPro's Ryan Smile. And The Addiction squared off with CMLL's Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero.

- 2018: ROH continued the "Honor Re-United" tour in Doncaster, England. After first besting Flip Gordon, British wrestler Mark Haskins defeated Adam Page to win the International Cup and earn a title shot for the ROH World Championship. The World Champion Jay Lethal had a slightly easier night as he only had one match, teaming with Jonathan Gresham against The Young Bucks. In a rematch from exactly twelve years earlier, ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes took on Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm in a non-title match. Also competing in a non-title match was ROH World Television Champion Punishment Martinez, who took on Delirious. Marty Scurll won a Four Corner Survival match over Christopher Daniels, Joe Hendry and Kip Sabian. And with ROH's Tenille Dashwood and UK wrestler Chardonnay being unable to compete on the tour, British wrestler Kay Lee Ray received another opportunity to showcase herself, taking on Charlie Evans.

I was at the August 17, 2013 Manhattan Mayhem and the return of Kingston and Homicide blew the roof off the place. It's a moment that's been kind of lost from how Outlaw Inc kind of petered out (the cursed Final Battle 2013 match was something they never recovered from and Eddie's personal obstacles got in the way 2-3 months later) but there was a nice span there where the Kingston & Homicide promos felt so raw and fresh and it really seemed like they'd pulled it together for something exciting.

Notable about that show too is that it feels like the real beginning of Delirious' ROH pulling away from Cornette's vision. With Cornette's last bit of booking being the conclusion of the SCUM feud in July 2013, you start to see a real tonal change with who returns to the company and how the events were laid out. The vacancy of the world title really allowed for the tag titles to become the must-see main event again.

Also, the crowd for Field of Honor 2014 was great. The internet fans who crapped on it just don't like fun. That may be an oversimplification, but as someone who was there - a substantial chunk of the crowd had never seen ROH before, many had probably never been to live wrestling, and their enthusiasm became really infectious. A woman absolutely fell in love with Cedric Alexander when he made his entrance and, since the color of his tights matched her dress, she began cheering him on and referring to him as her "baby daddy." This lead the crowd to start chanting "BA-BY DAD-DY!" That's what probably threw the two off their game. However, the wrestlers themselves didn't really seem to mind and a few of them came out into the stands to get pics with the fan in question.

- 2016: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor XIV" in Las Vegas, NV. After over a year on top, Jay Lethal's first reign as ROH World Champion came to an end when he was defeated by Adam Cole. Unfortunately for Cole, his celebration of being only the third ever two-time ROH World Champion was cut short thanks to his former friend Kyle O'Reilly. New Japan showed up in force for the show, as they were heavily featured up and down the card. The Addiction managed to successfully retain the ROH World Tag Team Championship in a Three-Way Tag Team match against Los Ingobernables de Japón and the duo of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Michael Elgin. Dalton Castle took on IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in a non-title match. The Guerrillas of Destiny and Yujiro Takahashi represented Bullet Club in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Toru Yano and Roppongi Vice of CHAOS. And Silas Young took on Katsuyori Shibata. In the "strictly" ROH side of the card, Mark Briscoe challenged Bobby Fish for the ROH World Television Championship, while Donovan Dijak became the new number one contender for the title after winning a Four Corner Survival match over Jay White, Kamaitachi and Lio Rush. And Jay Briscoe squared off with Adam Page in an "Anything Goes" grudge match.

- 2017: ROH continued the "War of the Worlds UK" tour in Liverpool, England. After coming out on top in their Ten-Man Tag Team match the night before, Los Ingobernables de Japón's SANADA tried to repeat the feat solo when he challenged Bullet Club's Cody for the ROH World Championship. The Young Bucks defended the ROH World Tag Team Championship against their frequent adversaries The Addiction, while ROH World Television Champion KUSHIDA managed to retain his title in a Four Corner Survival match against ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion Dalton Castle, Hiromu Takahashi and Marty Scurll. Former Six-Man Champions Bully Ray and The Briscoes faced off with the final three members of LIJ, Tetsuya Naito, EVIL and BUSHI. Mark Haskins made his Ring of Honor debut, defeating Silas Young in a singles match. In a CMLL showcase match, Mistico and Titan took on Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero. Jay Lethal faced British wrestler Josh Bodom, and Kenny King squared off with Adam Page.

- 2018: Ring of Honor closed out the "Honor Re-United" tour in London, England. Due to winning the International Cup the night before, Mark Haskins, on the one year anniversary of his Ring of Honor debut, challenged Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship. The match was actually Haskin's second time wrestling for the title, as he'd previously challenged Lethal for it on a RevPro show two and a half years earlier ["High Stakes 2016" - 1/16/16]. After debuting all the way back in 2002 ["Road to the Title" - 6/22/02], Jody Fleisch and Jonny Storm made what would be their final appearances in ROH, taking on The Young Bucks. As with the first two shows of the tour, ROH World Television Champion Punishment Martinez was again in a non-title match, this time opting to take on Jimmy Havoc in a Street Fight instead. The ROH World Tag Team Champions the Briscoes competed in dual singles match, with Jay Briscoe facing off with Marty Scurll, while Mark Briscoe wrestled Christopher Daniels. Adam Page won a Three-Way match over Flip Gordon and Kip Sabian, Jonathan Gresham squared off with Joe Hendry, and Kay Lee Ray took on Ayesha Raymond.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 20

- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Do or Die V" and "Night of the Grudges II" in Morristown, NJ. With CM Punk having departed for WWE, ROH needed to start a new chapter, but before that there were some storylines that needed wrapping up. With their feud renewed at "Redemption" [8/12/05], Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels had what was only their second singles match in Ring of Honor, this time for Joe's ROH Pure Championship. In a bit of trivia, this match marked the only time besides its debut ["Second Anniversary Show" - 2/14/04] and retirement ["Unified" - 8/12/06] that a Pure title match was the main event of a show during the championship's original tenure. While the Joe/Daniels feud would continue, others on the show came to an end. The six-month storyline between Colt Cabana and Nigel McGuinness came to an end in the first and only "Soccer Riot" match, while the feud between The Ring Crew Express and the Carnage Crew, which really traced its originals all the way back to ROH's third show ["Night of Appreciation" - 4/27/02], came to an end in a Weapons match. That match not only brought an end to the Carnage Crew's feud, but also an end to the Carnage Crew's run in Ring of Honor, as it was Loc's final appearance. DeVito would depart soon after him, wrestling one last dark match at "Survival of the Fittest 2005" [9/24/05]. Likewise The Ring Crew Express' tenure would end not long after, with them ceasing to be fulltime members of the roster by the end of the year. While those feuds were ending, others were continuing or soon to begin. New ROH World Champion James Gibson was set to make his first title defense, but ended up actually making two defenses. Gibson was originally set to defend the belt in a Three-Way match against Homicide, who he'd been feuding with for two months, and his former friend Spanky, who had turned on him one week prior ["Punk: The Final Chapter" - 8/13/05]. However, the match was thrown out when Homicide was disqualified for using a chain. While Spanky would get a singles match for the title later in the show, Homicide was left fester in another title loss (and history has shown bad things happen when Homicide dwells on title loses). The Embassy brought in Puma to team up with Jimmy Rave in a tag team match against Generation Next. Jay Lethal's feud with Low Ki continued by proxy as he took on fellow Rottweiler member Ricky Reyes. And Azrieal took on debuting FIP wrestler Jerrelle Clark (in what was Clark's third match of the night).

Before the main show, ROH held "Do or Die V". Unlike the previous "Do or Die" shows, the fifth and final one was the only one not to be released on DVD, which is unfortunate as unlike the previous three, this one had an actual format to it. Eight wrestlers (mostly from ROH's sister promotion Full Impact Pro) essentially competed in a mini-tournament, with the winner receiving a Ring of Honor contract. After defeating ROH student Antonio Blanca in his first match, Sal Rinauro would defeat Claudio Castagnoli and FIP wrestlers Jerrelle Clark and Steve Madison in a Four Corner Survival match to win the contract. Within two months, Rinauro would be one-half of the ROH Tag Team Champions ["Joe vs. Kobashi" - 10/1/05]. Other matches on the show saw The Outcast Killaz wrestle their final ROH match against Pelle Primeau and EC Negro, Sumie Sakai made her return to face Lacey, and Sterling James Keenan defended the IWC Super Indy Championship against John McChesney.

- 2010: ROH kicked off another round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. Now as head booker following the release of Adam Pearce, Delirious' tenure as a full time wrestler came to an end when he took on Austin Aries in a Steel Cage match to finish their feud. For the first time in months, Eddie Edwards defended the ROH World Television Championship (and actually on television), with Kenny King being the lucky recipient of the title shot [the last time Edwards defended the TV title in ROH was at "Epic Encounter III" (3/20/10); the last time he defended it on television was the day after he won it (Ep. #59 - taped 3/6/10)]. Meanwhile, ROH World Champion Tyler Black and ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling both competed in non-title matches, with Black taking on Mike Sydal, while the Kings faced The Super Smash Bros. Davey Richards, who was strongly backed by the new booking regime, came out on top in the longest match of the tapings, defeating El Generico. Roderick Strong led The House of Truth to victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match over Christopher Daniels and The Briscoes. The Dark City Fight Club took on Necro Butcher and Erick Stevens of The Embassy. Colt Cabana won a squash match over J Freddie, while Steve Corino did the same against Adan Chambers. And Sara Del Rey took on Taeler Hendrix in her debut match, while Daizee Haze squared off with Rachel Summerlyn.

- 2016: ROH closed out their weekend in Las Vegas with a television taping. Beginning their push towards "All-Star Extravaganza VIII" [9/30/16], new ROH World Champion Adam Cole found himself surrounded by old enemies. After coming out on the losing end of a Six-Man Tag Team match with Adam Page and Yujiro Takahashi against Jay Lethal, Michael Elgin and Kyle O'Reilly, Cole tried to redeem himself by teaming with Page in a tag match with Elgin and Hiroshi Tanahashi, but once again lost. Bobby Fish made another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, besting New Japan's Katsuyori Shibata. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addiction were also successful in their match, teaming with Kamaitachi to defeat IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada and Roppongi Vice of CHAOS. After winning a squash match over Ken Phoenix and Ricardo Rojas, the "Pretty Boy Killers" Shane Taylor and Keith Lee tried their hands at defeating War Machine, but the match ended in a no contest. Ring of Honor's Silas Young took on New Japan's Toru Yano, while The All-Night Express faced the Guerrillas of Destiny. The Briscoes squared off with Lio Rush and Jay White, Dalton Castle took on Caprice Coleman, and 2016 Top Prospect competitor Punishment Martinez began wrestling for ROH fulltime and aligned himself with BJ Whitmer and Kevin Sullivan.

- 2017: ROH closed out the "War of the Worlds UK" tour in Edinburg, Scotland. In the main event spot, Jay Lethal and Silas Young continued their feud in a Street Fight. Bullet Club added more gold to their collection as ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks became double champions when they teamed with Adam Page to defeat Dalton Castle and The Boys to become the new ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions. Meanwhile, ROH World Champion Cody teamed with Marty Scurll to once again defeat former champion Christopher Daniels and his Addiction tag team partner Frankie Kazarian. The Briscoes took on CMLL duo Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero. Bully Ray squared off against EVIL, while Mark Haskins took on Hiromu Takahashi, and ROH World Television Champion KUSHIDA teamed with CMLL's Mistico and Titan in a Six-Man Tag Team match against the remaining members of Los Ingobernables de Japón. And Colt Cabana stepped out of the commentator's booth and into the ring to take part in a Three-Way match against Kenny King and British wrestler Josh Bodom.

- 2021: Ring of Honor aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Rey Horus took on his former MexiSquad partner Demonic Flamita in a No Disqualification grudge match, while the ROH Women's World Championship Tournament quarterfinals kicked off with Quinn McKay facing Rok-C, and Miranda Alize meeting Nicole Savoy.

For those not getting their fix for the night with the one-hour television show, ROH returned to live action with "Glory by Honor XVIII: Night 1" in Philadelphia, PA. Bandido made his first defense of the ROH World Championship, taking on Flip Gordon, who had defeated him in their two previous singles match ["War of the Worlds 2019 Tour: Buffalo, NY" - 5/8/19; ROH TV: Ep. #485 - aired 1/1/21]. This was Gordon's first title shot since earning one by winning the 20-Man Battle Royal all the way back at "Free Enterprises" on February 9, 2020. The Foundation kept the ROH Pure Championship in house when Jonathan Gresham defended it against fellow member Rhett Titus. VLNCE UNLTD and La Facción Ingobernable took on each other full force in what was scheduled to be an Eight-Man Tag Team match, but ended up being a Street Fight. Originally the Briscoes were set to take on The Righteous in a Tag Team match, but due to the dastardly heel known as COVID-19, Mark Briscoe wound up facing Bateman in a singles match. As with the episode of television that was simultaneously airing on television, Demonic Flamita came out on top in a Six Man Mayhem match against Dak Draper, Danhausen, Eli Isom, Mike Bennett and PJ Black, while Rey Horus (in large part due to his mask) came out on the losing end in a singles match against Silas Young. EC3 squared off with the insanely over hometown bigmouth Brian Johnson, Max the Impaler and Vita VonStarr teamed up to defeat The Allure, and Chelsea Green made her ROH in-ring debut, teaming with Sumie Sakai against Rok-C and Miranda Alize.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 21

- 2010: Ring of Honor wrapped up their latest round of HDNet tapings in Philadelphia, PA. Since the departure of Paul London for the WWE in 2003 ["Death Before Dishonor" - 7/19/03], it had been a tradition for major homegrown stars departing for larger companies to get a big farewell sendoff, with the entire locker room emptying to wish them well and say goodbye (CM Punk in 2005, Samoa Joe in 2007, Bryan Danielson in 2009…). However, now under a new booking regime, that tradition changed with Tyler Black, the reigning ROH World Championship who was rumored to be heading to the WWE. Due to the wibbly wobbly, timey wimey-ness of the HDNet tape delay, Black would not receive a true farewell sendoff. In his last match taped for HDNet, Black was defeated by Davey Richards in a non-title rematch from "Death Before Dishonor VIII" [6/19/10]. Following the match, Richards essentially put down Black instead of putting him over, which made sense as this was not Black's last match as he had a few more booked, including another match against Richards ["Tag Wars 2010" - 8/28/10]. However, following his actual final match at "Glory by Honor IX" [9/11/10], Black also didn't get a big farewell, as it was taking place before the airing of his HDNet match with Richards. Thus Black's last appearance in Ring of Honor ended with him flipping off the fans, while his "final" match had him being put in his place by Davey Richards. In less confusing farewells, a new booking team always means a new interest in certain wrestlers, which inevitably leads to a roster shakeup as wrestlers are hired and fired. Two of the first on the chopping block were the original House of Truth, Christian Able and Josh Raymond, and the popular Super Smash Bros., who happened to face each other in what was their last match. Two long running feuds continued on the tapings, with Colt Cabana and El Generico facing Kevin Steen and Steve Corino in a Steel Cage match, while The Briscoes received their last two-on-two shot at the Kings of Wrestling for the ROH World Tag Team Championship. Though Steen and Corino as well as the Kings won their respective matches, it did not end their feuds, with both continuing on until "Final Battle 2010" [12/18/10]. After retaining against Kenny King the night before, Eddie Edwards once again put the ROH World Television Championship on the line, this time against the other half of The All-Night Express, Rhett Titus. The title match was Titus' second of the night, as earlier he teamed with King to defeat the Dark City Fight Club. Christopher Daniels evened the score with Roderick Strong in a rematch of their first ever ROH singles match [HDNet: Ep #67 - taped 5/22/10], Grizzly Redwood teamed with Andy Ridge to continue his neverending feud with The Embassy, and Sara Del Rey squashed Rachel Summerlyn. And in a dark match that is interesting largely due to the power of hindsight, future Kingdom partners Matt Taven and Mike Bennett teamed up for the first time ever in a Six-Man Tag Team match with Brandon Locke against Mike Sydal, Colby Godwin, and, as coincidence would have it, their future Kingdom leader Adam Cole.

- 2015: ROH held a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. Roderick Strong received what would be his last ever shot at the ROH World Championship when he met Jay Lethal in a rematch of their one hour draw at "Death Before Dishonor XIII" [7/24/15]. Perennial contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Championship The Young Bucks got another shot at the belts, taking on longtime rivals The Addiction. New Japan was in town to take part in "Field of Honor 2015" the next night, and as a result fans were treated to the one time only match between Adam Cole and Shinsuke Nakamura. Matt Sydal and KUSHIDA wrestled their only singles match against each other, while The Briscoes teamed up with Hirooki Goto to defeat IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada and Roppongi Vice. War Machine picked up another win in their rivalry with The Kingdom. Michael Elgin and Silas Young met in their yearly singles match. reDRagon took on The House of Truth, Dalton Castle faced Cedric Alexander, ACH wrestled Caprice Coleman, and Takaaki Watanabe won a Four Corner Survival match over Adam Page, Moose and Will Ferrara.

- 2021: ROH held "Glory by Honor XVIII: Night 2" in Philadelphia, PA. After nearly two full years of feuding (which was dragged out that long in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the bitter war between Matt Taven and his former friend Vincent came to an end in a violent Steel Cate match. Thanks to various weapons such as barbed wire, thumbtacks and a hatchet, not to mention interference from The Righteous, Vincent came out on top against his former Kingdom leader to win the feud and a shot at the ROH World Championship (which technically he still has in his back pocket, so Mr. Tony K needs to get on that toot sweet). The feud between the current and former ROH World Champions continued in a tag team match, as Bandido teamed with his buddy Rey Horus to take on Rush and his brother, ROH World Television Champion Dragon Lee. The win would be a costly one for Rush, as he suffered a knee injury during the bout that would require surgery and kept out of action for seven months, ending his run in the pre-AEW Ring of Honor. In the only title match of the night, Shane Taylor Promotions defended the ROH World Six-Man Team Championship against the former CHIKARA trio of Delirious, Hallowicked and Frightmare, who reunited as Incoherence for the first time in over twelve years. As an added bonus, they were led to the ring by the devious and deceitful UltraMantis Black, who then joined in commentary (which is always a treat). After besting La Facción Ingobernable in a Street Fight the night before, VLNCE UNLTD's weekend of faction warfare continued with them taking on The Foundation in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. Unable to team with his brother, Mark Briscoe partnered with the ridiculously over Brian Johnson to defeat the dysfunctional duo of Flip Gordon and Demonic Flamita. The end of the match saw Gordon suffer a head injury after being given a J-Driller onto a steel chair, which resulted in him suffering retrograde amnesia. Dalton Castle took on Danhausen, World Famous CB faced LSG in a Pure Rules match, and Chelsea Green teamed up with Willow to wrestle Rok-C and Miranda Alize.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 22

- 2015: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor XII: Night 1" in Milwaukee, WI. Michael Elgin made another successful defense of the ROH World Championship, defeating hometown heel Silas Young. ROH World Tag Team Champion Kyle O'Reilly competed in a one-time only singles match against IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles, while his partner Bobby Fish competed in a Six Man Mayhem match with ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal, ACH, Adam Page, BJ Whitmer and Cedric Alexander. The Briscoes and The Young Bucks met in their first traditional tag team match in almost two and a half years ["10th Anniversary Show: Young Wolves Rising" - 3/4/12]. Former wrestler/booker Adam Pearce returned for one last weekend in Ring of Honor, brought in by The Decade to beat some respect into their young boys, starting with Tadarius Thomas. Meanwhile, dissension appeared to be growing in The Decade, as their attempts to assist Roderick Strong in his match against Hanson were both unwelcomed and unhelpful, and ultimately cost him the match. Jimmy Jacobs was equally unsuccessful in his match against Tommaso Ciampa. And The Addiction took on Adam Cole and Michael Bennett of The Kingdom.

- 2015: ROH held "Field of Honor 2015" in Brooklyn, NY. For Ring of Honor's second trip to MCU Park, they brought along several wrestlers from New Japan to take part. In the main event, Shinsuke Nakamura wrestled his final match for ROH, teaming with ROH World Champion/ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal to take on reDRagon. Roderick Strong wrestled IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in a non-title match, while Michael Elgin did likewise against IWGP Intercontinental Champion Hirooki Goto. Both champions would come out on top in their respective matches, but one pair of champions who did not were GHC Tag Team Champions The Killer Elite Squad, who lost a non-title match against War Machine. For ROH, that match brought an end to their mini-angle from back in April [TV Ep. #189 - taped 4/4/15], while also laying the groundwork for a title match between the two teams a few weeks later in Pro Wrestling NOAH ["Great Voyage 2015" - 9/19/15]. In a one-time only match, The Briscoes squared off with The Time Splitters. The Young Bucks teamed up with Matt Sydal and ACH to defeat Roppongi Vice and The Kingdom in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. Takaaki Watanabe outlasted Adam Page, Cedric Alexander, Dalton Castle, Donovan Dijack, ROH World Tag Team Champion Frankie Kazarian, Moose, Silas Young and Bushwhacker Luke Williams in a Gauntlet match to earn at shot at the ROH World Television Championship. And one year after meeting in a tag team match, the now babyface Adam Cole took on the now heel ROH World Tag Team Champion Christopher Daniels in a singles match.

- Promo from Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian, saying growing up they were addicted to pro wrestling. They started with the stuff on television, but as their addiction grew they soon began branching out to independent wrestling and international wrestling. When that wasn't enough anymore, they started wrestling themselves, but soon found they needed more and more. When they found they needed the pure stuff, they came back to the source, Ring of Honor. Now they see the fans react to them like they used to react to wrestling when they were fans, and realized they're no long the addicts. The fans are the addicts, and they are The Addiction.

1. The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) beat The Kingdom (Adam Cole & Michael Bennett w/Maria Kanellis). Near the beginning of the match Daniels was tripped into the ropes, where Maria gave him an eye-rake when the referee wasn't looking. Middle of the match Maria pulled Kazarian off the ring apron to prevent Daniels from making a hot tag. End of the match Maria jumped up on the ring apron and tried to slap Daniels, but The Addiction had had enough and pushed her off the ring. They then hit Celebrity Rehab on Bennett, with Kazarian getting the pin.

- The Decade came out with their young boys Adam Page & Tadarius Thomas. Jimmy Jacobs said he, Roderick Strong & BJ Whitmer have spent the past decade building Ring of Honor into what it is, but they're worried about the next decade, which is why they've taken Page & Thomas under their wings. The problem, though, is that kids don't listen, and these two haven't been catching on quickly enough. Therefore, they've delegated the responsibility of teaching these two a lesson to "Scrap Daddy" Adam Pearce. Jacobs said when he was 16-years-old, Pearce gave him a swirly for not knowing Ricky Morton did a roll when he made a hot tag. Jacobs told Pearce to teach Thomas respect the same way he taught him.

2. Adam Pearce (w/The Decade & Adam Page) beat Tadarius Thomas. Finish saw Pearce distract the referee and hit a low blow, followed by Piledriver for the win. Post match BJ Whitmer began yelling at Thomas, who looked like he was getting to ready throw down, until Jacobs stepped between them. Jacobs told Thomas if he's smart, he'll take what just happened as a learning experience. Jacobs told him he has all the potential in the world, but he keeps falling short, and he has a lot to learn. After fifteen years in wrestling and ten years in ROH, Jacobs has learned a lot, and one thing he's learned is to battle crazy, you have to be a little crazy yourself. For four years the craziest guy in Ring of Honor has been Tommaso Ciampa, but Jacobs perfected crazy. Jacobs sent The Decade & Co. to the back.

2. Tommaso Ciampa beat Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs attacked Ciampa as he was making his entrance, resulting in a prolonged brawl on the floor. End of the match Jacobs grabbed a microphone and tried to use it as a weapon, but Ciampa knocked it free. Finish saw Jacobs go for a Spear, but Ciampa blocked it by kneeing him in the face. Ciampa then put Jacobs in a modified Rings of Saturn before picking up the microphone and doing a promo about winning the ROH World Championship the next night. After finishing, Ciampa transitioned into the Sicilian Stretch, and Jacobs tapped out.

4. AJ Styles beat Kyle O'Reilly (w/Bobby Fish)

- Adam Cole came out and wanted someone to explain what the hell is going on in Ring of Honor. First he and Michael Bennett lost to two guys from a retirement home tonight. Then last week at "Field of Honor" [8/15/14] Cole finally got his rematch for the ROH World Championship, but instead of it being a singles match he was put in a Four Corner Survival, and after losing he's now suddenly at the back of the line for challenges. After doing some thinking, Cole has figured our Ring of Honor is terrified of him because a guy like him is one in a million, and when you are invaluable, you can do whatever the hell you want. Cole is essential, and the locker room is scared because they know that at just 25-years-old, he hasn't even come close to hitting his prime yet. The greatest ROH World Champion of all time wasn't Bryan Danielson or CM Punk, and it certainly isn't Michael Elgin, it's Adam Cole, bay bay! Cole vowed to do whatever it takes to get the ROH World Championship back, then hit a superkick out of nowhere on a referee.

5. ACH beat Adam Page, BJ Whitmer, Bobby Fish, Cedric Alexander and Jay Lethal (w/The House of Truth) in a Six Man Mayhem match. When Page ended up being the legal man with Whitmer, he tried to tag out, but everyone refused. Whitmer ordered Page to lay down so he could pin him, and suddenly everyone else wanted back into the match. Finish saw Lethal try to go for a Lethal Injection on ACH, but just then Alexander climbed up on the ring apron. Lethal superkicked him off, but when he turned around to once again try for a Lethal Injection, ACH elbowed him in the face and pinned him with a German Suplex.

6. Hanson beat Roderick Strong (w/BJ Whitmer & Adam Page). Mid-match saw an awkward looking botched powerbomb attempt (Strong slipped free at the beginning and basically gave himself a phantom piledriver), and Hanson wisely went for a cover. After Strong kicked out, Hanson again tried to pick him up for a powerbomb, but Page jumped up on the ring apron to distract the referee. Strong got free and rolled up Hanson, but the referee was still distracted with Page and by the time he made the count, Hanson kicked out. Strong began yelling at Page for that, then moved out of the way and let Hanson knock him off the ring apron when he was charging at Strong. Later on Page pulled the referee out of the ring to break up a pin attempt on Strong, which Strong subsequently slapped him for. Finish saw Page give Strong a chair, with Whitmer yelling at him to use it, but Strong refused. After tossing the chair out of the ring, Strong turned around right into a Spinkick of Doom, with Hanson getting the pin. Post match Whitmer argued with Page before getting into an argument with Strong.

- Promo from the Briscoes, saying it's been a couple of years since they've face The Young Bucks in a two-on-two tag team ["10th Anniversary: Young Wolves Rising" - 3/4/12]. Last time Jay wrote them some poetry (Mark: "It was beau-ti-ful"), but he don't think they took it the right way. Now that the Bucks are grown and bad asses, Jay has written them something new. Jay had Mark lay down a beat as he began rapping on the Bucks, but then went off on a tangent when he said "Superkick Party". Jay don't give a damn about no superkick, cause he can superkick too, and he'll superkick them bitches heads off.

7. The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) beat The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Jay pinned Matt after a Doomsday Device.

- Promo from ROH World Champion Michael Elgin, saying Silas Young finally gets a shot at the title, but to get it, he has to go through Elgin. The problem with calling yourself the "Last Real Man" is that Young isn't the last real man, Elgin is.

- Promo from Silas Young, saying Michael Elgin likes to talk a lot about how he's the hardest working person in Ring of Honor and no one trains harder than them, but even well trained athletes fail. Every athlete has an expiration date, and Elgin's is tonight.

- Silas Young came out for his match and said he hopes Michael Elgin has spent the past few weeks enjoying every spare moment he's had with the ROH World Championship, because when he decided to give the Last Real Man a shot at the belt, he put himself on a timeline for defeat. Elgin does have a strong work ethic, but he is not unbreakable. He's average, just the fans are average people, living their average lives in an average city. Silas said the fans seem to think they have some sort of connection with him because they're from the same city, but they have no connection. Elgin is average while Silas is greatness, and when he wins the ROH World Championship, he'll finally be able to move out of this shithole town.

8. Michael Elgin (c) beat Silas Young to retain the ROH World Championship. Near the end of the match Silas set up a table on the floor and tried to powerbomb Elgin off of the ring apron through it, but was unsuccessful. It then backfired on him a short while later when Elgin through him over the top rope through the table. Elgin won after a Bucklebomb/Elginbomb combo. Post match Elgin put over Ring of Honor.

- Taeler Hendrix threw out the first pitch to the "Honor Cow" (Steve Corino).

1. Adam Cole beat Christopher Daniels. Near the end of the match Cole had Daniels trapped in a Figure Four, but Chris Sabin ran out and jump up on to the ring apron, getting Cole's attention and causing him to break the hold. Daniels tried to roll up Cole with an O'Connor Roll, but Cole kicked out and sent Daniels' headfirst into Sabin's ding-ding, followed by Cole superkicking Sabin off the ring. Finish saw Cole counter out of a Uranage attempt and hit a Last Shot for the win.

2. War Machine (Hanson & Rowe) beat The Killer Elite Squad (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Lance Archer). Rowe pinned Smith after a Fallout.

- Moose beat Dijak. End of the fall Stokely Hathaway chased Truth Martini off the field when he tried to interfere. Moose pinned Dijak after a Spear.
- Alexander beat Moose. Fall saw Veda Scott run out and jump up on the ring apron to distract Moose and the referee, allowing Alexander to sneak in from the back in punch Moose in the head with a wrench and pin him.

4. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Matt Sydal & ACH beat Roppongi Vice (Rocky Romero & Beretta) & The Kingdom (Michael Bennett & Matt Taven w/Maria Kanellis) in an Eight-Man Tag Team match. Mid-match The Kingdom & RGP Vice got into a game of pantomime baseball, with RPG Vice hitting it out of the park and, after fully running the bases, sliding into home by hitting a pair of running knees on ACH. It was then The Kingdom's turn at bat, but they were tagged out at home by the Bucks via a pair of Superkicks. Finish saw the Bucks hit More Bang for Your Buck on Taven, followed by ACH hitting a 450, and Sydal finishing things off with a Shooting Star Press.

Lethal began yelling at Nakamura for that, which give O'Reilly an opportunity to attack him from behind, but Nakamura pushed Lethal out of the way and kicked O'Reilly. O'Reilly went into the ropes for a Rebound Lariat, but Nakamura countered it into a cross armbreaker, while Lethal took out Fish with a Lethal Injection and pinned him to win. Post match Nakamura offered to shake Lethal's hand, but Lethal refused.

- 2014: Ring of Honor held "Death Before Dishonor XII: Night 2" in Chicago Ridge, IL. Tommaso Ciampa received only his second shot at the ROH World Championship, challenging Michael Elgin, and done pulled a "Homicide" and snapped after losing, and attacking anyone and everyone who drew his ire, including ring announcer Bobby Cruise. The main event saw four of the best tag teams in ROH history compete in an Eight-Man Tag Team Elimination match, with The Briscoes teaming up with The Addiction to take on ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon and The Young Bucks. Caprice Coleman became the latest person to challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Television Championship. IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles squared off with Cedric Alexander in a non-title match. Adam Cole took on Hanson in their only singles match together, which you would think would've led to more considering the post-match angle. The Decade's Jimmy Jacobs and Roderick Strong came out on top in a tag team match against Monster Mafia, while BJ Whitmer, thanks to young boy Tadarius Thomas, came up short in a Four Corner Survival match against Michael Bennett, Silas Young and winner ACH. And former booker Adam Pearce wrestled what would be his final match for Ring of Honor, taking on The Decade's other young boy Adam Page.

D. Cheeseburger, Will Ferrara & Louis Lyndon beat Stokely Hathaway, Matt Sells & Mike Rollins in a Six-Man Tag Team match

1. The Decade (Roderick Strong & Jimmy Jacobs) (w/Adam Page & Tadarius Thomas) beat Monster Mafia (Ethan Gabriel Owens & Josh Alexander). Finish saw Strong give Alexander a jumping knee strike followed by a Gutbuster, and Jacobs finishing things with a Spear.

- Promo from Caprice Coleman, saying he's known Jay Lethal since the beginning and he's changed being around Truth Martini. Now Lethal has a mouth made for shutting and a face made for radio, and Coleman needs to bet him for the ROH World Television Championship before the ratings go down.

2. Jay Lethal (w/Truth Martini) (c) beat Caprice Coleman to retain the ROH World Television Championship. End of the match Martini tried to slide Lethal The Book of the Truth, but Coleman stomped on it before picking it up and dropping it over the top rope. However, the distraction allowed Lethal to hit a superkick and a Lethal Injection for the win.

3. ACH beat BJ Whitmer (w/Adam Page & Tadarius Thomas), Michael Bennett (w/Maria Kanellis) and Silas Young in a Four Corner Survival match. End of the match saw Thomas get on the ring apron to distract ACH when he tried to go for a 450 Whitmer, but ACH prevented himself from crashing and burning and kicked Thomas off. Thomas got in the ring and tried to clothesline ACH, just as Whitmer was trying to clothesline him from behind; ACH ducked and Whitmer accidently clotheslined Thomas instead. ACH then pinned Whitmer with a bridging German Suplex. Post match Whitmer said at "All-Star Extravaganza VI" [9/6/14], he has to pick either Page or Thomas to be his tag team partner for the night. Whitmer said he is sick of Thomas screwing up and told him to stay home that night, Adam Page will be his partner.

4. Adam Cole beat Hanson. Finish saw Hanson hit a superkick and a lariat to knock Cole down, but when he went to pick him up and finish him off, Cole rolled him up with an inside cradle. Post match Hanson offered to shake Cole's hand, but Cole flipped him off. Cole tried to superkick him, but Hanson blocked it and grabbed Cole by the throat. However, before he could do anything Michael Bennett ran out and attacked him. After taking out Hanson, it was Story Time with Adam Cole, bay bay. Cole said no one cares about the bearded troll Hanson or War Machine. And speaking of War Machine, Ray Rowe happened to be in a very serious motorcycle accident…and nobody cared about that either. In fact, if that accident had been much worse, no one would remember Ray Rowe. Michael Elgin ran out, and The Kingdom bailed. Elgin grabbed the microphone, but before he could say anything, Tommaso Ciampa's music hit. Elgin said he didn't see any reason to wait until later, and told a referee to bring out the ROH World Championship.

5. Michael Elgin (c) beat Tommaso Ciampa via referee's decision to retain the ROH World Championship. Mid-match Elgin gave Ciampa a modified Falcon Arrow off the ring apron through the timekeeper's table. Finish saw Elgin hit an elbow to the back of Ciampa's head, followed by a spinning backfist, and then repeatedly kneeing him in the head until the referee stopped the match. Post match Ciampa picked up the title belt and looked like he was going to hand it to Elgin, but then dropped it and sat down on the edge of the ring. A member of ring crew came out and asked if he needed help to the back, and Ciampa repeatedly told him to go away until he got frustrated and threw him into the barricade. Ciampa then saw another member of ring crew sitting in the corner and walked over and repeatedly slapped him. Ciampa overheard Kevin Kelly criticizing him for that, so he walked over and slapped Kelly before grabbing him and throwing him into the ring. Ciampa tried to pick Kelly up for a Project Ciampa, but Steve Corino jumped into the ring and tried to talk him out of it while security ran out and surrounded the ring. Eventually security rescued Kelly and Ciampa looked like he was going to head to the back, then he saw Bobby Cruise get into the ring. Ciampa got back in the ring to attack Cruise, but before he could a member of ring crew ran into to try to stop him. Ciampa threw the member of ring crew over the top rope, then attacked Cruise, giving him nearly a dozen running knee strikes in the corner.

- Scarlett Bordeaux took over ring announcing.

- The Decade (minus Roderick Strong) came out with Adam Page & Tadarius Thomas and said they built Ring of Honor over the past ten years, but they're worried about the next ten years. That's why they've taken Page & Thomas under their wings, to teach them the right way to do things. Roderick Strong reached out to Adam Pearce to help them, so tonight he's going to teach some respect to Adam Page.

6. Adam Page beat Adam Pearce (w/The Decade & Tadarius Thomas). End of the match Roderick Strong came out to watch, which fired up Page. Finish saw Pearce try to go for a Piledriver, but Page countered into a jackknife pin and got the three count. Post match Jimmy Jacobs & BJ Whitmer got in the ring to congratulate Page, while a shocked Strong stayed on the floor. Pearce said Page did a good job and earned the fans respect (even if "they don't matter"), and he earned his respect. Pearce offered to shake Page's hand, but when he accepted, Pearce punched him in the face and started beating on him. Jacobs began berating Page and calling him stupid, saying just because the match is over doesn't mean the fight is.

- reDRagon were eliminated when Daniels pinned O'Reilly. End of the fall saw O'Reilly picked up Daniels for a modified Chasing the Dragon with the Bucks hitting Superkicks, but Daniels countered out of it and hid behind O'Reilly. O'Reilly stopped the Bucks from accidently kicking him, but then grabbed Daniels and held him for the Superkicks, only to have Daniels duck and Bucks kick him instead. The Addiction then tossed the Bucks out of the ring and hit Celebrity Rehab on O'Reilly, followed by Daniels finishing him off with a B.M.E.
- The Addiction were eliminated when Matt pinned Daniels after an Indytaker.
- The Briscoes were eliminated when Matt pinned Mark after More Bang for Your Buck.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 24

- 2002: For the first time in its history, Ring of Honor moved outside of Philadelphia, holding "Honor Invades Boston" in Wakefield, MA. Away from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, after six frustrating months 17-year-old Mark Briscoe was finally allowed to step inside the ring for his debut match, and channeled all his anger and resentment to defeat his older brother Jay Briscoe. The match stole the show on a ridiculously long card that was headlined by Low Ki making the first defense of the ROH Championship, taking on AJ Styles in a rematch from "Night of Appreciation" [4/27/02]. After competing in Ring of Honor's first hardcore match a month prior ["Crowning a Champion" - 7/27/02], the Carnage Crew escalated things to a new level when they took on Da Hit Squad in the first "Boston Massacre" match. After a pretty racist altercation backstage at "Crowning a Champion", Homicide and Boogalou had their first true test as a tag team, taking on James Maritato and Tony Mamaluke. While the match saw the reunion of the Full Blooded Italians, it also marked the final teaming of the Natural Born Sinners in Ring of Honor, as not long after Boogalou made the super smart bet of choosing XPW over ROH. Now officially a member of The Prophecy, Donovan Morgan took on Bryan Danielson in a rematch from the "King of the Indies 2001" [10/27/01] (which was a large inspiration for the creation of ROH), wrestling him to a time limit draw. After "stealing" his Ring of Honor contract the month before, Michael Shane faced off with Paul London in a singles match, while his buddy Bio-Hazard took on fellow Texas Wrestling Academy student Don Juan. Special K made their official debut, taking on The S.A.T and Chris Divine in the first of many matches the two sides would have against each other. Xavier and Scoot Andrews finished off their rivalry that began at "The Era of Honor Begins" [2/23/02], The Amazing Red squared off with Quiet Storm, and the very over Christopher Street Connection took on The Ring Crew Express.

- 2007: ROH held "Caged Rage" in Hartford, CT. The show was headlined with back-to-back steel cage matches, with Jack Evans taking on his former friend FIP World Heavyweight Champion Roderick Strong in a non-title match, while Kevin Steen and El Generico challenged The Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Championship in the first of two title shots they'd have over the weekend. Following two extremely close calls during the "Death Before Dishonor V" weekend [8/10-8/11/07], Takeshi Morishima defended the ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli and Brent Albright in a Three-Way Elimination match. British wrestler PAC travelled across the pond to face off with Bryan Danielson. Frustrated by their loses, Austin Aries made it put up or shut up time for The Resilience, booking them in a Six-Man Tag Team match with the stipulation that if Matt Cross or Erick Stevens were pinned, they'd be replaced in the group by whoever pinned them, while if Aries was pinned, the faction would disband. Originally set to take on the trio of Jason Blade, Eddie Edwards and Pelle Primeau, No Remorse Corps member Davey Richards seized an opportunity to end The Resilience by attacking Primeau and taking his spot. As a result, this marked the first time the future American Wolves ever teamed together. After four months on the shelf with a torn ACL, Jimmy Jacobs made his in-ring return, defeating Rhett Titus. And Nigel McGuinness won a Four Corner Survival match over Adam Pearce, BJ Whitmer and Delirious. More important than the match, however, was the aftermath, which saw Pearce, Whitmer and Brent Albright form The Hangmen 3 by brutally attacking Delirious and stapling his mask to head.

- 2019: ROH held "Honor Takes Center Stage 2019" in Atlanta, GA. Per Ring of Honor's recent changes with the live events, half the show was taped exclusively for television or the internet, while the other half was streamed live on Honor Club. The main event of the show saw the 2019 Champions vs. All-Stars match, with ROH World Champion Matt Taven, ROH World Television Champion Shane Taylor and ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes teaming up to take on Jay Lethal, Jeff Cobb, Kenny King and Rush in an Eight-Man Tag Team Elimination match. Rush would be the sole survivor, further building him up for his inevitable showdown for the ROH World Championship. The match featured a guest appearance by Lanny Poffo, who joined in on commentary. Poffo wasn't the only legend to appear on the show, as The Rock n' Roll Express made a special appearance to build up their match for the ROH World Tag Team Championship the next night. Bullet Club member Chase Owens took some time off from New Japan to defeat LSG and PJ Black to earn a shot at the ROH World Television Championship. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Villain Enterprises went 2-0 against LifeBlood, as Marty Scurll defeated Bandido in a singles match while PCO and Brody King came out on top in a tag match against Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams. Felino and Okumura made the trip up from CMLL to team with Silas Young in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Shinobi Shadow Squad, former WOH World Champion Sumie Sakai took on Angelina Love, and Scottish wrestler Joe Hendry made his ROH United States debut by having a little chit chat with Dalton Castle. In the TV portion of the show, Beer City Bruiser squared off with Vincent Marseglia, Rhett Titus wrestled Shaheem Ali, and the former Boys the Tate Twins wrestled their final match in the pre-Tony Khan Ring of Honor, defeating Griff Garrison and Marcus Kross. Also, the 2019 Top Prospect Tournament continued with two internet exclusive first round matches, as Austin Gunn faced Brian Johnson, while The Haitian Sensation took on Ken Dixon.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 25

- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Epic Encounter II" in St. Paul, MN. The show was the start of a long, costly weekend for ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson, who was scheduled to defend the belt both nights in Two out of Three Falls matches. Up first was Nigel McGuinness, who in his final shot during Danielson's reign took the champion to his second one hour draw this month. McGuinness may not have won the World title, but he didn't leave empty handed, as following the match Danielson returned to him the retired ROH Pure Championship belt. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong racked up another successful defense of the ROH World Tag Team Championship, retaining against the duo of Samoa Joe and BJ Whitmer. One old rivalry and one new rivalry continued, as Matt Sydal picked up a victory over Delirious, while The Briscoes defeated Irish Airborne yet again. Jimmy Rave teamed with Sal Rinauro in his last chance to defeat Davey Richards, who partnered with Colt Cabana, but once again came out on the losing end. Christopher Daniels finally got payback on Claudio Castagnoli for turning his back on Ring of Honor mere hours after Daniels chose him to be the first person he (respectfully) shook hands with ["The 100th Show" - 4/22/06]. And poor Jimmy Jacobs had a horrible night when, after losing to Homicide in a singles match (the only one the two ever had against each other), he found out the rumors about Lacey and Colt Cabana were true when he walked in on the two of them in the shower.

- 2007: Ring of Honor held "Manhattan Mayhem II" in New York, NY. There was a lot of hesitation from fans heading into the show over the name, as they wondered if it would be worthy of the name of a show held in such a high esteem ["Manhattan Mayhem" - 5/7/05]. Turns out the show did, thanks in no small part to Bryan Danielson, who was facing Takeshi Morishima for the first time in what was his first shot at the ROH World Championship since losing it at "Final Battle 2006" [12/23/06]. The match would be a costly one for Danielson, as minutes in Morishima hit a series of strikes to his face which broke his orbital bone and detached his retina. In addition to instantly starting a feud between Danielson and Morishima, that match may have also altered the course of wrestling history, as Danielson was set to take part in the finals of the "Reclaiming the Glory" tournament, which was to determine the holder of the vacant NWA World Heavyweight Championship following its split from TNA. As a result, Danielson would be replaced by the man he defeated in the semifinals, Adam Pearce, who ultimately won the tournament and began his first of five reigns as champion. Despite its significance, the Morishima/Danielson match was not the main event of the show, as that spot when to The Briscoes once again defending the ROH World Tag Team Championship against Kevin Steen and El Generico. After besting them the night before in a Steel Cage match, the Briscoes now took them on in what had quickly become their signature match, a Two out of Three Falls match, with them winning in two straight falls for the fourth time that year Austin Aries, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans, the core members of Generation Next, faced each other for the first and only time ever in a Three-Way match, which saw another turning point in their feud. After promising for months he'd form his own faction, Evans finally made good on his word with the surprise appearance of Julius Smokes and Ruckus, the first member of The Vulture Squad, who defeated Eddie Edwards in his debut match. Meanwhile, No Remorse Corps member Davey Richards took on British wrestler PAC, while The Resilience squared off with Mike Quackenbush and the man who would coincidentally soon become the third member of The Vulture Squad, Jigsaw. After dancing around it and slowly building up to it for months, the former Kings of Wrestling Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli finally faced off in a singles match in Ring of Honor, with Castagnoli walking away the winner. And the new trio of Adam Pearce, Brent Albright and BJ Whitmer picked up their first victory (which brought an end to Whitmer's six-month long losing streak), defeating Nigel McGuinness, Delirious and Pelle Primeau.

- 2018: ROH held a television taping in Philadelphia, PA. New ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Cody and The Young Bucks made their first defense of the titles, defeating Silas Young, Beer City Bruiser and Brian Milonas. Likewise Punishment Martinez retained the ROH World Television Championship against future AEW wrestler Aaron Solow. The match would be Martinez's second of the night, as earlier he teamed with ROH World Tag Team Champions The Briscoes in losing effort against SoCal Uncensored. Tasha Steelz hoped to earn a shot at the WOH World Championship, but came up short in her Proving Ground match against Sumie Sakai. After his singles match ended in a disqualification, Jonathan Gresham teamed up with ROH World Champion Jay Lethal to take on Bully Ray and his partner Silas Young in a tag team match. Former friends and tag team partners Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara faced off in a Fight Without Honor, with Cheeseburger winning the match and the feud. It was "The Hero vs. The Villain II" as Shane "Hurricane" Helms won his rematch against the Bullet Club's Marty Scurll. Eli Isom picked up a big victory by winning a Four Corner Survival match over Chris Sabin, Flip Gordon and Shane Taylor. Kenny King took on Adam Page, Coast 2 Coast scored a win over former ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom, the Best Friends squared off with The Boys, and Ring of Honor's attempts to hold a 2018 Top Prospect Tournament were once again halted by Jeff Cobb, who proclaimed himself the top prospect.

- 2019: ROH held "Honor for All 2019" in Nashville, TN. ROH World Champion Matt Taven competed in his second Defy or Deny match of the year ["State of the Art 2019: Portland, OR" - 6/2/19], and was far less successful than he was the first time, getting himself eliminated first via disqualification. In the end, Jeff Cobb outlasted former two-time ROH World Champion Jay Lethal and Kenny King to earn a future shot at the World title. In a match I don't think anyone would have ever predicted, the legendary The Rock n' Roll Express challenged for the ROH World Tag Team Championship, taking on The Briscoes. Meanwhile, LifeBlood was scheduled to challenge Villain Enterprises for the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, but with PCO not being medically cleared due to injuries suffered the night before, Bandido and Mark Haskins instead faced Marty Scurll and Brody King in a number one contendership match for the Tag titles. Shane Taylor racked up another successful defense of the ROH World Television Championship, retaining it against Bullet Club's Chase Owens. In a bit of a buildup towards his inevitable showdown with Matt Taven for the ROH World Championship, Rush squared off with Kingdom member Vincent Marseglia. Now a fulltime member of the roster, Scottish wrestler Joe Hendry made US Ring of Honor in-ring debut, teamed with Dalton Castle against Shinobi Shadow Squad. PJ Black took on Silas Young, The Bouncers came out on top in a Three-Way Tag Team match against Coast 2 Coast and the duo of Felino and Okumura, and despite not wanting to take part, Angelina Love won a Four Corner Survival over Damaris Dawkins, Jenny Rose and Sumie Sakai.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 26

- 2006: Ring of Honor held "Gut Check" in Chicago Ridge, IL. After wrestling to a one hour draw in his Two out of Three Falls title defense the night before, ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson did it all over again, this time against Colt Cabana. His third one hour draw of the month, Danielson came closer to losing the belt than at point thus far in his reign, as Cabana redeemed his abysmal performance at "The 100th Show" [4/22/06] by pinned the champion in five minutes, with Danielson being unable to tie things up until resorting to dirty tactics to pin Cabana with twenty seconds left in the match. The match was a costly one for Danielson, as ten minutes in he fell out of the ring and landed on the floor, tearing multiple tendons and muscles in his shoulder, which he would continue to fight through for the remainder of his reign. Christopher Daniels, one-half of the inaugural ROH Tag Team Champions, received his first shot at the titles in almost three years ["War of the Wire" - 11/29/03], teaming with Matt Sydal to challenge Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. Claudio Castagnoli was still paying for his sins from the ROH/CZW war, this time having to face Samoa Joe in a singles match. ROH Commissioner Jim Cornette set The Briscoes to the task of destroying Homicide, who teamed up with Davey Richards to take them on in a tag match. BJ Whitmer hoped to end things for good with Jimmy Jacobs in one last match against each other, but their feud only escalated further when Jacobs, determined to win Lacey's love after catching her with Colt Cabana the night before, destroyed Whitmer's ankle with a steel chair. And Nigel McGuinness led The Embassy to victory in a Six-Man Tag Team match against Delirious and Irish Airborne.

- 2017: ROH held a television taping in Atlanta, GA. Frankie Kazarian won the 2017 Honor Rumble (which featured the guest appearance by former WCW wrestler Glacier) to earn a shot at the ROH World Championship, but came up short when he challenged Cody for the belt later in the evening. ROH World Tag Team Champions/ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Young teamed with fellow Bullet Club members the Guerrillas of Destiny in a losing effort against Search and Destroy, while their co-champion Adam Page also came out on the losing end of his match against Kenny King. Marty Scurll, on the other hand, was able to pick up a win for Bullet Club, defeating Rocky Romero. After breaking his leg at the "15th Anniversary" [3/10/17], TK O'Ryan made his in-ring return, teaming with fellow Kingdom member Vinny Marseglia against The Briscoes. Former partners Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara faced each other in their first singles match since they breakup, with Ferrara getting a decisive win by making Cheeseburger pass out. Following the match, Ferrara formed a new partnership with Rhett Titus, collectively known as The Dawgs. QT Marshall wrestled his last singles match in ROH, losing to Josh Woods. War Machine won a Three-Way Tag Team match over Coast 2 Coast and The Tempura Boyz, Silas Young took on "Cauliflower" Chase Brown, and Flip Gordon squared off with Corey Hollis.

- The cameraman tried to get a promo from Colt Cabana, who was outside with Lacey while Jimmy Jacobs moped in the background. Cabana said he needed a minute, then told Lacey he had a good time with her last night. Lacey said tonight will be even better because Colt's going to win the ROH World Championship for Lacey's Angels. Cabana said he wants to keep business and fun separate, so he doesn't want any part of Lacey's Angels. Cabana left just as Lacey was getting upset at that, so she turned around and asked Jacobs what his problem is, and told him he better take out BJ Whitmer once and for all tonight. Lacey asked if he had a problem with Lacey's Angels too, and Jacobs said he cherishes his time in Lacey's Angels. Jacobs doesn't know if Cabana seduced her or what happened, but Jimmy is here for her and will do whatever it takes to win her love, even if it means killing BJ Whitmer.

- Promo from BJ Whitmer, saying he and Jimmy Jacobs are set to do the dance one more time. Every time they face things get a little more insane, and tonight Whitmer is going to push the envelope just a bit further and put Jacobs behind him for good. Then he's going to start a new quest to become the ROH World Champion.

1. Nigel McGuinness & The Embassy (Jimmy Rave & Sal Rinauro) beat Delirious & Irish Airborne (Dave & Jake Crist) in a Six-Man Tag Team match. McGuinness pinned Jake after a Rebound Lariat.

2. Jimmy Jacobs (w/Lacey) beat BJ Whitmer. Mid-match Whitmer again went for a top rope powerbomb, aiming for the timekeeper's table, but Jacobs fought out of it and gave him an awkward headscissors that cause the table to slip out from under Whitmer instead of breaking when he landed on it. Several people came out to check on Whitmer and help him to the back, and the referee used his discretion to give Whitmer a 10-count to return to the ring or else the match would be awarded to Jacobs (ROH did not have a mandatory count out at the time). After pushing past the referees and ring crew, Whitmer made it back in at the count of nine. Finish saw Whitmer start to make a comeback when Jacobs caught him with a roll up and got the three count. Post match Whitmer began arguing with the referee, when Lacey handed a steel chair to Jacobs, who repeatedly hit Whitmer's bad ankle with it. Jacobs then sandwiched Whitmer's ankle under multiple chairs and hit a Senton on it. Several officials ran out to check on Whitmer, while Jacobs professed his love to Lacey.

- Promo from Samoa Joe, saying tonight Claudio Castagnoli has no tricks and no backup. In war there are always stragglers and renegades, and they need to be eliminated. In America there is one penalty for treason, and that's death. Tonight Samoa Joe is going to kill Claudio Castagnoli.

- Jim Cornette came out with the Briscoes, and the microphone wasn't interest in listening to him, as it repeatedly cut in and out. After switching mics, Cornette said he wanted to clear up a few things, as judging from the reception of the crowd they'd read reports from "Death Before Dishonor IV" [7/15/06], and it's obvious the fans Philadelphia weren't paying attention. Everyone seems to think he's going to be the new evil authority figure, and he hoped the internet would give him and Ring of Honor a little more credit than that. Back at "Tag Wars 2006" [1/27/06], when Cornette got his teeth knocked out, that's when the feud with CZW's hardcore wrestlers started, and a lot of ROH wrestlers spilled a lot of blood in the proceeding months. Fast forward to "Death Before Dishonor IV", and Cornette chose his heart over his wallet as he picked the ROH show over doing a TNA pay-per-view because he wanted to lead them to victory. Cornette wanted the best team possible, so he held a spot open for Homicide, who instead of doing it out of gratitude for the promotion that gave him a career, only said he'd join if he was given three demands. After Bryan Danielson conned his way into Cage of Death and almost cost them the match, Homicide came through and nearly single handedly won it for them. Even though Homicide was a problem when it came to the match, he won it for ROH, so Cornette put him over and agreed to do any three things for him that were within his power as Commissioner. Homicide's first two demands were a match with Steve Corino and a shot at the ROH World Championship, and Cornette agreed. Homicide then picked something he knew Cornette would never agree to, and asked for Low Ki to be reinstated. Besides being the clumsy son of a bitch who knocked Cornette's teeth in January, Low Ki is a pain of the ass to deal with on a business level, and he will never be brought back. Thus Cornette told him no and reiterated he would do three things for Homicide, not for friends of Homicide. Instead of coming up with a new third wish, Homicide called Cornette "a f***ing liar" and spit in his face. Where Cornette comes from, that's the worst thing you can call someone, so he won't stand for being called a liar much less being spit in the face by someone who's been in the business for fifteen minutes. Therefore, with the help of JJ Dillion, Cornette taught Homicide a little lesson about where his place is in professional wrestling, and because of that a good portion of the fans turned on him and began cursing at him. After all Jim Cornette has done for Ring of Honor over the years, acting as commissioner, hosting the shoot interviews, bringing in legends, this how they repay him all because he was a problem with one person. Cornette addressed his fans and thanked the ones who still support him and apologized to the ones who were genuinely offended with his language and actions that night, but to the other fans who were flipping him off and yelling at him, Cornette said they've got it backwards. "It's not 'f*** me', it's f*** you!" As far as the rest of the wrestlers go, he's not going to suddenly start screw people over just 'cause, because there is no problem between him and the locker room, everything is fine…unless if you support Homicide, because if you're not with Cornette, you're against him. Homicide committed career suicide when he spit in Cornette's face, and Cornnette is going to make sure those who are with him go down with the ship. Cornette then called the Briscoes into the ring and said in their match against Homicide & Davey Richards, he doesn't have a problem with Richards so he doesn't want to see him get hurt (but if it happen, oh well, do what you have to), but has far as Homicide go, he wants him carried feet first out of the building tonight, and they have his word as Commissioner they will suffer no repercussions for doing whatever it takes to make that happen.

3. The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe) beat Homicide & Davey Richards. Mark pinned Richards after a Springboard Doomsday Device.

- Backstage during intermission, Dave Prazak announced that BJ Whitmer was on his way to the hospital with a severe ankle injury suffered at the hands of Jimmy Jacobs. Jacobs interrupted and said he won for Lacey tonight, and the power of love is stronger than anything in this world, including Whitmer's ankle. The sins of the flesh go down to the adoration of the heart, so anything Colt Cabana has with Lacey will go down in defeat to Jacob's love. Jacobs then walked off singing "Up Where We Belong".

Finish saw Daniels go for Angels Wings on Aries, but Aries blocked, allowing Strong to hit a Sick Kick and Half-Nelson Backbreaker, followed by Aries hitting a 450 for the win.

6. Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Colt Cabana ended in a 60-minute time limit draw in a Two out of Three Falls match for the ROH World Championship
- Cabana pinned Danielson after a Colt 45 to win the first fall roughly five minutes into the match.
- Roughly ten minutes into the match, Danielson went to for a shoulder block on Cabana while he was next to the ropes, but Cabana moved out of the way, causing Danielson to fall straight down out over the middle rope and severely injure his shoulder when he landed. After continuing for the remainder of the match, including a prolonged period of wrestling throughout the crowd, the final minutes of the match saw Cabana try to run out the clock by avoiding wrestling Danielson, even going so far as to literally run away from him and have Danielson chase him around ringside.
- Danielson pinned Cabana to win the second fall with less than 30 seconds remaining in the time limit. End of the fall saw Cabana refuse to be pinned or submitted, so Danielson asked the referee to check with the timekeeper to see how much time was left, then gave Cabana a low blow behind the ref's back and pinned him with a small package.
- The third fall ended in a time limit draw (before the 30-second rest period had even expired).

- In a medical update, it was announced when Bryan Danielson fell out of the ring, he suffered two torn tendons in his should and a possible torn muscle in his chest. Danielson's doctors told him he needs immediate surgery to repair the damage, and Ring of Honor officials informed Danielson he would not be stripped of the ROH World Championship while he recovered. However, Danielson has decided he will wrestle through the injury and defend the ROH World Championship against KENTA at "Glory by Honor V: Night 2" [9/16/06].

Brandi said if this were one year ago, she'd be in the ring in a dress acting as a ring announcer before going to the back and wishing she was a competitor. Now thanks to Women of Honor, she is a wrestler. It's cool of Kelly Klein doesn't want to shake her hand, because Brandi isn't done with her. Brandi is going to continue wrestling, not because her husband is the ROH World Champion, but because she's a fighter and will keep coming back.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Karen Q beat Sumie Sakai. Mid-match Q tried to bring a chair into the ring, but the referee quickly got rid of it. However, he was then taken out with a ref bump. With the referee down, Sakai was the one who decided to bring the chair back into the match, and tried to hit a Moonsault onto Q on it, but Karen Q moved out of the way and Sakai landed on the chair. Karen Q then rolled up Sakai with an inside cradle for the win. Post match Karen Q attacked Sakai with the chair, before calling out Deonna Purrazzo (who was on commentary), saying here she is again to steal Q's spotlight. Purrazzo said if Q has a problem, they should just settle it tonight. Q said she didn't have time, then ran over and punched Purrazzo in the face with the microphone. Purrazzo made a comeback and fought Q out of the ring, but then nearly killed herself when she clipped her leg on the ropes while doing a suicide dive to the floor. After brawling around ringside some more, they made their way back into the ring where Q tried to give Purrazzo a move onto the chair, but Purrazzo countered it into a DDT.

Today in Ring of Honor History: August 27

- 2005: Ring of Honor held "Dragon Gate Invasion" in Williamsville, NY. The show was the start of the three-year partnership between ROH and Dragon Gate, and saw the debut of CIMA and future ROH World Tag Team Champion Shingo Takagi. For his debut match, CIMA took on AJ Styles. Takagi was booked to face Christopher Daniels, but with Daniels running late to the show they were forced to find a backup, and luckily had one in the form of former New Japan wrestler Curry Man (when Daniels finally arrived at the show, he was not only upset he didn't get to wrestle Shingo, but also because he missed seeing Curry Man wrestle in person). After ending their feud in a Soccer Riot match at "Night of the Grudges II" [8/20/05], Colt Cabana, as the winner, was selected to challenge James Gibson for the ROH World Championship, while as the loser, Nigel McGuinness had to settle for challenging Samoa Joe for the ROH Pure Championship. Though Cabana came up short in his title match, McGuinness defeated Joe to begin his reign as Pure Champion, and would go on to hold the belt for just shy of one full year ["Unified" - 8/20/05]. As a horrible consolation prize, Cabana would end the show by finding himself in a new feud, one that would end up being the most violent of his Ring of Honor career. History had shown that bad things happened when Homicide failed to win the ROH World Championship, and feeling like he'd been screwed out of winning the title when he was disqualified at "Night of the Grudges II", Homicide was left with a week to fester and brood. Unfortunately for Colt Cabana, Homicide was his guest that night on "Good Times, Great Memories", and he found Cabana's jokes about their respective upbringings to being disrespectful, and let Colt know that via an ass kicking after the show. For his part on the event, Homicide wrestled El Generico in their first ever singles match. It would be a long time before a rematch ["World's Greatest" - 2/25/11], as that match brought an end to Generico's first run in Ring of Honor. Also ending his run was Generico's travel partner Kevin Steen, who took part in a Four Corner Survival match with Chad Collyer, Davey Andrews, and future rival/friend ROH Tag Team Champion Jimmy Jacobs, marking the first time Steen and Jacobs ever faced each other. And ending his run as well was ROH founding father Spanky, who in his last match before returning to WWE joined The Embassy and teamed with Jimmy Rave in a victory over Generation Next.

- 2010: ROH held "Champions' Challenge" in Richmond, VA. The show was named after the main event, the first ever Champions' Challenge match, which saw ROH World Champion Tyler Black take on ROH World Television Champion Eddie Edwards in the only singles match the two wrestlers ever had against each other. The first half of the show was largely dedicated to Tag Wars 2010, and saw the three semifinals matches. The All-Night Express were the first team to advance to the finals after defeating Colt Cabana and El Generico. They were quickly joined by the Dark City Fight Club, who bested the Bravado Brothers, and The Briscoes, who came out on top in their match against The Embassy. The Embassy had a slight disadvantage heading into their match, as Erick Stevens was originally scheduled to team with Necro Butcher, but due to travel delays effecting him and a few other wrestlers, he had to be replaced by Prince Nana. Another person hampered by travel delays was Roderick Strong, whose scheduled opponent for the night, Steve Corino, first had to take on local wrestler Jeff Early as a result. ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling had a non-title open contract, which was answered by The Set. Kevin Steen and Davey Richards revived their 2009 rivalry in a one-off singles match. And Cedric Alexander made his Ring of Honor debut, teaming with Bobby Dempsey to defeat Jake Manning and Caleb Konley.

- 2016: Ring of Honor returned to MCU Park for the third and final time for "Field of Honor 2016" in Brooklyn, NY. In the main event, new two-time ROH World Champion Adam Cole made his first defense, taking on former champion Jay Lethal and New Japan wrestlers Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito. ROH World Tag Team Champions The Addictions had a relatively light task, defending the title against The Briscoes in the finals of a Gauntlet match involving The All-Night Express, The Pretty Boy Killers, War Machine, Cheeseburger and Will Ferrara, and New Japan's Toru Yano and Gedo of CHAOS. Fresh off a tour of New Japan, Michael Elgin defended his newly won IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Donovan Dijak. ROH World Television Champion Bobby Fish wrestled a non-title match against New Japan's EVIL, while his reDRagon tag team partner Kyle O'Reilly squared off with Katsuyori Shibata. The Young Bucks, Adam Page and Yujiro Takahashi represented Bullet Club in an victory over the Motor City Machine Guns, ACH and Lio Rush. And Dalton Castle faced off with KUSHIDA.

- 2021: ROH aired their latest episode of television from Baltimore, MD. Eli Isom challenged Dragon Lee for the ROH World Television Championship in the main event, while the remainder of the show was focused on the ROH Women's World Championship tournament. Trish Adora advanced to the semifinals by defeating Allysin Kay, while Angelina Love, in her first match of the tournament, advanced in a less dominating manor as Max the Impaler, on orders from Amy Rose, chose punishment over championship gold, leading to a disqualification.
