Great match. I'd rank this join 2nd on the same level as her Tay Conti match and just behind her match with Statlander. No hate on Britt but in all 3 matches her opponent outshined her.
Glad she retained but its time to get that belt on Thunder Rosa ASAP

What took me out of that match was that not only was there cheating, but it was right in front of the referee and he did absolutely nothing for a few before finally throwing Rebel out. Even JR thought it was stupid. And then Britt won anyway. It was a good match until then, but that segment and the ending was a wet fart. JR said something about... "That's a good way to get disqualified" and I laughed to my friends and said something like... "oh JR this AEW ... you can't get Disqualified in AEW." again it's my biggest issue with AEW... the refs come off as powerless or just flat out idiots... if there are rules... there needs to be consequences for breaking said rules or ... THERE ARE NO RULES. Referee discretion has been my biggest pet peeve since Day 1 officialfan.proboards.com/thread/592184/referee-discretionGive it time, they will explain the rules. Yeah, okay 3 years in and still doing the same thing

Well, count me in the minority of people that liked Britt vs. Riho and thought it was a good match. I don't think Baker's title reign has much longer left in it though and now's the time for AEW to pick who's next and bring them up to Britt's level of star power. I liked it a fair amount and like most of Britt's title matches, but they all come to a screeching halt at points because the interference is so telegraphed and annoying. It's why every other women's feud happening right now (Shida/Serena, Statlander/Hirsch, Mercedes Martinez/Rosa) is more interesting. It's just going to lead to matches based on what those two have and not 35 interference spots. And I know Kenny matches had a lot of interference spots, but Britt isn't Kenny and they don't have the time to build up the momentum that Kenny was able to overall. The entire story of this match in particular should have been she's never beaten Riho/Hayter and Rebel have been messing her up lately, so she has to do it herself. But no, none of that happens and it doesn't really factor into the end result at all.

I’m getting increasingly annoyed with how AEW does interference spots and post match beatings in general. Like it’s not just that they do it in way too many matches. But it is suffocating. Either it’s so blatant, there’s so many people interfering, or there’s so many times they interfere, or some unholy combination of those.
It makes the faces look dumb for not being prepared, it makes the referees look dumb for letting it go so much, it makes AEW staff at ringside look inept for not being able to stop it. And it makes AEW managements/Tony Khan in story look incompetent for just letting it go on and on with now consequences.
It reminds me of how absurd WCW got with this sort of thing after awhile and I hated that as well.

I don't mind discretion but... like there's a limit. My whole thing about discretion is, not all refs should be the same Like every ref looks incompetent letting things get away from them. If it is a title match and you want to be lenient that is fine to an extent but you can't have full blown cheating going on

Britt is teetering into Roman territory, for me.
There, I said it. She doesn't sell fear of her opponents well, she doesn't have the ring generalship to put her opponent over while still winning, and even when she gets her ass handed to her (lights out with Thunder Rosa) she doesn't show fear of the woman that bloodied her and put her through a table as a heel should.
Sorry, but I'm over Britt.

I can't really see a distinction between the Riho, Tay, and Statlander matches. They all just felt like the same slow motion Jinder Mahal tribute act and then she flips the switch and suddenly wins decisively.
If anything I'd say the best match of the reign was the Nyla one just because it wasn't like every other Britt match, but even that really wasn't anything special.

Is there a kayfabe explanation why Tony Khan allowed Britt and The Elite to screw over babyfaces over and over again for basically a year?
I can’t stand WWE’s over-reliance on heel authority figures but the one benefit is it gives a reason for heels to get away with stuff if their bosses are assholes too. TK is presumably a babyface/neutral figure though. Why doesn’t he ban Hayter/Rebel/Cutler from ringside for title matches when they’re constantly ruining matches?

Omega and the Bucks are kayfabe EVP's as well as actual EVP's so that at least makes some sort of sense where they'd abuse their executive power when Tony isn't paying attention. And it caught up to the Bucks where Tony Khan booked them in a steel cage match at All Out where they lost to the Lucha Bros.
No clue about nothing similar being done about Baker, though. This also plays into the "lawful stupid" face trope where they don't bring friends to even the odds.

They KIND of teased a couple of times that TK considers Britt such a big star they he’s willing to do a lot to please to her to get her to stick around.
But it has not been a consistent thing and so much of AEW is like that outside of Britt as well.

The fact that faces flat out refuse to ever learn or wise up makes me wonder if they are related to Homer

But it has not been a consistent thing and so much of AEW is like that outside of Britt as well. Also, it's one thing if the person at ringside is a manager--i.e., an actual legal relationship/partnership. Hayter and Rebel are just...like, people. Who can accompany Baker to ringside all the time because reasons. And who inevitably interfere. And who serve no other purpose in or out of kayfabe. People will complain about how "we all know it's fake, we don't need your RULES, MAAAAN" but this is sort of the final consequence. Baker can do whatever she wants because nothing matters and there are no consequences because there are no real rules to break. Bill Watts or that guy with the podcast that people here hate someone could absolutely come up with some sort of kayfabe reasoning why Baker can legally get away with having these two at ringside, and even do it in a way that puts the heat on her for being crafty and manipulative and not on AEW itself. But for all of his talk about how much he loved classic Mid-South, this is something that TK has not yet grasped.

It still doesn’t explain why the faces don’t bring their friends to back them up however?
This really feels like how NJPW books EVIL these days and that is NOT a good thing.

Really I think even beyond Britt it kind of says something that every match on Battle of the Belts had interference in it.

Way too many AEW matches in general have interference. Or a post match brawl/beat down.
It has it’s place on the show for sure. But they are really overusing it now.
