...whereby the contents of said list would be permanently banned from being remade.
What needs to be there?
Can be a TV show or movie alike. Maybe other things.

Really so long as you're not rushing to remake horribly offensive things like Custer's Revenge or the original Birth of a Nation or something then remake whatever the hell you want.

For the most part agreed. As long as the original is still readily available. I had no problem with JJ Abrams doing Star Trek because hey there is still plenty of old Star Trek out there. But I did not like that he was said to want all non reboot Star Trek stuff gone. Its said that Paramount not going along with this is one reason he left.

No remake should be banned.
People should be more critical of entertainment companies for churning out the same shit over and over though.

I think this should be reserved for remaking of foods/beverages. "NEW IMPROVED RECIPE" is normally code for "We remade the food you love with cheaper shit. It's now worse but good luck getting the original product now asshole"
If a product gets a new recipe it should have to have to rename itself rather than be a shitty remake. Lol i know that will never happen. But we were talking hypotheticals here.

Nothing. I don't think anything is a sacred cow, and even white supremacist garbage like Birth of a Nation can be remade in a way that's subversive of the original's message.

I think a tier list would work pretty well. Basically, additional adaptations of books/musicals should be more common, while doing outright remakes of films made from original screenplays less common.
Another Frankenstein film? Great. Another E.T.? Maybe not so much.

Are we talking strictly remakes, like someone remaking Romeo & Juliet? Or are we including re-imaginings like West Side Story, which is literally just Romeo & Juliet set in 1950s America?

Eh, so many great films are adaptions of a previous work of art. It doesn't mean the directors of those movies are any less creative, it may not be 100% original material but they and the filmmakers still leave their own touches on said adaptions.

That was exactly my mindset when the new Star Trek stuff started coming out. I had my Star Trek available to me, and was initially at peace with the new product being not for me. Until I made the mistake of actually watching the JJ Abrams movies. He really is a shit director. He screwed up Star Trek, went on to screw up Star Wars... The saving grace is that his Star Trek wasn't good enough to sustain itself, and died quickly after a few movies.

To the point that Universal actually included a DVD of the original in with a Blu-ray release of the Al Pacino version, just to remind people that it actually existed.

Animated films being made as live action ones with no significant changes to the story or characters.
Tempted to also say classic films, but then there's True Grit....
Truthfully I wish they'd just try remaking films that weren't that good the first time around, or just didn't leave a big pop culture footprint. Let's see someone take a stab at Meteor Man in 2022.

I am totally down for Hollywood remaking Meteor Man and Blankman as a shared universe.

It's why whenever Disney talks about their next LIVE ACTION Remake I keep putting forth the Black Cauldron... it's not one of their big originals or one of their renaissance films... and it's something that could still work if they tried... >_>
