I'm just curious if the dog who helped people in need is known outside of Canada?

Minnesotan (suburb of Canada) here and I've never heard of The Littlest Hobo. Was he on Beachcombers?

It was shown a ton in the U.K.; I haven't watched an episode since the late-'80s but that theme song is burned into my brain.

Does Hobo mean something else in Canada. Because I hear a name like that I imagine Verne Troyer in tattered clothes seated in front of a burning wastebasket in a back ally.

As said, early afternoons/holiday mornings in the UK were never complete at the time without this being shown.
Did we ever get a backstory on why he was a hobo?

I mostly know about it due to a few Canadian youtubers I watch mentioning it from time to time, same with Pizza Pizza. Does Hobo mean something else in Canada. Because I hear a name like that I imagine Verne Troyer in tattered clothes seated in front of a burning wastebasket in a back ally. It is basically just Lassie or Rin Tin Tin, except the dog is a stray, hence "Hobo", and goes from place to place, helping people.

Yeah, it was on in the UK. Always looked a little weird as I had never seen the US tv format before and the difference between PAL and SECAM formats was quite large back in the day. Same with the Red Hand Gang.
It looked like it was filmed on an early video camera.

I only know it from it being Stinky the Homeless Guy's theme song from Inter Species Wrestling.

I know of it from hearing Canadian comedians referring to it on podcasts.

I only know it because it was mentioned in the Lassie episode of Nick Knacks. Before that I'd never heard of it.

What baked my noodle was finding out the Littlest Hobo series that aired in the 80's was a remake/reboot of a series that aired in the 60's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Littlest_HoboThe 80's series featured the "grandson" of the original dog and even reused some of the plots from the original.

I heard of it. Did it ever make Nick or TDC or any cable channel that borrowed Canadian shows?
I do remember its American counterpart, the NBC series Here's Boomer.

I know about it because of Corner Gas. Actually went out of my way to watch a few episodes online after the Corner Gas tribute and thought it was a sweet show!

So its a show about ungrateful assholes?

And no one took the dog in after it helped them? So its a show about ungrateful assholes? Most would try, IIRC, but there would always be a "my journey isn't done yet" moment with the dog choosing to move on to his next adventure.
