By the way, who holds the record for longest time spent sitting out their WWE contract? Apparently Pac sat at home for about ten and a half months.

At this point dude might as well go scorched earth. If they're not going to play nice, why should he?

At this point dude might as well go scorched earth. If they're not going to play nice, why should he? However long he's got left, with their current business model, they don't go without releasing anyone during that time, and if they don't release him during it, it's only going to be more embarrassing for the company. Give it until their next quarterly report or whatever, and he's probably out, but in the mean time, they get to deal with him being on trending a bunch of times and making them look bad. It's minor damage, but it's damage.

To a degree, but Zelina Vega getting a huge push after they snubbed her for the 9/11 show shows that even WWE has shame. It's an incredibly small scrap of shame, but it does exist. Here, though, I think it's less shame and more that it'd be absolutely radioactive for morale. At least whenever they get to the next cut, if Ali's in it, they can present it like his being culled "protected" someone else. I wouldn't be especially shocked if they'd holding onto him for that, sort of like how Brodie Lee finally got his release when a bunch of other people were getting released, anyhow.

Damn. I wouldn’t have immediately assumed he’d be AEW bound one day but that tweet does give me hope.

Just the let the guy go. All keeping him prisoner is doing making him more discontented and angry. WWE has no high ground at all.

Hey Ali, do you want to be in the Rumble tonight? Oh. Good to know. I wonder how this convo actually went. "Wanna be in the rumble?" "Am I going to win?" "....can someone get Honky Tonk man on the phone? A rumble spot just opened up."

So is the situation basically just pure spite at this point? Like, WWE can tell him to show up at the Rumble, Ali can tell them to kick rocks and WWE is just like Ok, have fun sitting at home. It’s just a stalemate until the contract runs out? And is he getting paid during any of this?

They’re still paying him his downside every month, he just can’t earn more from merchandise and the like since he wouldn’t be on TV as much to promote it.

Ali likely has some downside guarantee that pays him no matter what. But he loses out on any extra money he makes from appearances on the shows.

It would have been hilarious if he had taken the offer, entered the ring and then jumped straight out and then went into the crowd to take selfies ala Jeff Hardy.

Ali likely has some downside guarantee that pays him no matter what. But he loses out on any extra money he makes from appearances on the shows. If he still has dates on his contract then they should be able to tell him when to work. And if he refuses then they could potentially stop paying him until he comes back to work. If he has no dates left then like Pac he could sit home and collect his downside with no consequences.
