Todd gives me about 15 new songs to listen to each year through both lists.
Taylor is so good on stage. That is an arena full of people feeling like she is having a conversation with them as individuals. It's wild

It's wild It's such a skill, lots of acts especially big ones will just play the hits, put on a show. Which is great, but I love when someone can have a bit of personalisation like that. The best I've seen was Jarvis Cocker last summer, like 20000 at Pulp, he'd have conversations that felt like you were in his living room.

It's hard enough to make date 19 of 34 on a club tour feel special, never mind an arena/stadium tour.

Huh, I guess Two Tribes was not a hit in America Well, we're talking about a country in which Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder On The Dancefloor" was a hit for the first time last month, so you know.

Kind of amazed The Power of Love wasn't used in a film soundtrack and made into a hit that way. Seems tailor made for a silly 80s or 90s Tom Cruise outing.

A review of Jolene

Having thought her last four records were masterpieces and being bit into country, I really don't like Cowboy Carter much. And I thought Jolene was frankly, shit.

Jolene needed someone to give the new lyrics a second pass to make sure things that needed to rhyme to make the song work actually did. Beyonce is incredibly talented but this was a miss that could have been avoided by an editor.

Honestly aside from the "invincible Mary Sue" tone of the lyrics, I just... I don't like the way Beyonce sings it. It sounds stilted and weird. It's not the worst thing I've ever heard but it could have used another once over before release.
