Meltzer also mentioned that he's seen WWE do a lot of shady stuff to go after their competition and this wasn't that. Someone just found it and it blew up. He knew he was into some weird stuff but never heard it until now (like most of us). I dont think WWE would be behind this one because it could easily blow in their faces too.

Yeah, it would've been really weird for WWE to be behind this because he just worked for them a few months ago and WWE is still a much bigger name in the mainstream. Would've been cutting off their nose to spite another person's face.

Yeah, that makes sense because the moment people find out WWE was involved in any way, the logical response would have been “So…why did YOU hire him?”

Vince can be petty, but doing it for Kendrick while doing nothing when it comes to AEW's big signings.

The WWE ignored Drake Wuertz until he was caught on camera doing stupid **** on company time and received minimal pushback from the mainstream press before then, they certainly don't seem to have lost any sponsors as a result of the coverage they did get during his long run as head ref of crazytown. It's so much easier to deflect outrage about the behaviour of someone when they're a former employee rather than perceived as a current one, 'We fired him. Hey look over there, he was on their TV last night.' I also think that some of the larger non wrestling outlets that covered Kendrick probably wouldn't have covered this if it came out if he were a WWE employee. Did the NYPost or Daily Mail cover the behaviour of Wuertz?
I would look at the WWE's recent handling of AEW and blood before saying they'd never be so stupid to bring attention to situation where they look bad, we all know about their bloody match stipulations yet they still try to use it to chase sponsors away from AEW. If they can use something as a stick to beat the other guys, they will, as they've gotten away with rampant hypocrisy since the 80s and there's little sign it's going to blow up in their faces now.

There's definitely a vibe of letting sleeping dogs lie in pro-wrestling. If someone said/did something shitty years before and it's been largely forgotten about, most wrestling companies are happy to leave it alone. Things only tend to get dug up when someone changes companies or gets a high-profile push from nothing. I think both entertainment and sports as a whole are like that - if you make money, we won't poke the bear.
And as others have said, there are relatively harmless conspiracy theories like the moon landings were faked or the earth is hollow that don't persecute actual human beings. And then there are horrific anti-semitic conspiracy theories that do persecute actual humans and can lead to serious real-life consequences. I think most people assumed Kendrick was in the relatively harmless category as I know I did.

Bo Dallas believes in the Illuminati and some other conspiracy stuff, wrestlers are like any other walk of life, there are gonna be a few conspiracy people.

I remember reading a theory years ago when people were talking about this that conspiracy theorist Kendrick was just a gimmick. That would track with his 'I never believed it' comment, but I still don't buy it.
Going to see Icke, knowing WAY more than surface level conspiracy shit, as well as actually losing friends over his beliefs - no one commits THAT hard to a gimmick.

I think all of these wrestlers believe in conspiracy theories because they are part of a world that is perceived to be fake so to them everything else has to be fake too. But what Kendrick said about the Holocaust goes beyond that. I hope no major wrestling company hires him ever again. I'm shocked that WWE brought him back after these comments originally were made.

I think this is a major stretch. Like, do some wrestlers believe dumb shit? Absolutely, but like... plenty of them are just like normal people and nerds.

Goddam, I needed this. Holy shit. I hope everyone following this controversy who weren't that familiar with the conspiracy world takes the following with them: 1) The majority of conspiracy theories are, to some degree, based in antisemitism. A lot of coded language is used ranging from "zionist" to "lizard people" to "media elites" to "illuminati" and so forth, but they can all be traced back to century+ old scapegoating of the Jewish people. There's so much repetition, shared stories, and the latest QAnon offerings are merely the latest incarnation of it. Regardless if the person "knows" they're parroting antisemitism is, frankly, irrelevant. 2) Don't dismiss or downplay someone's racism/antisemitism/prejudice with "I don't believe they have hate in their heart" or "I don't think they were trying to spread hate." Again, that doesn't matter. It's what they were doing and it's on them for not taking into consideration the impact these things have. 3) If you hear your friends or loved ones going down the conspiracy trail, whether these or similarly impossible stances on 9/11 or Sandy Hook or Election Fraud or "crisis actors" or "plandemic" or JFK Jr being alive or chugging horse paste etc., call them out on it. You can do it in private and in a loving way if you think they're just misguided or caught up in some ridiculous MLM scheme or are in a vulnerable situation and need that feeling of belonging to a group, but this shit is bigger than just them. This is how we get things like hate crimes or the January 6 insurrection.

Obviously what Brian said was some crazy and awful stuff. But some other wrestlers just saying stuff that half the country doesn't agree with because of their political beliefs doesn't make them awful people. Undertaker and Kane seem to get crap for just having standard beliefs of one side (unless I missed something). Yeah, you missed something.

I think all of these wrestlers believe in conspiracy theories because they are part of a world that is perceived to be fake so to them everything else has to be fake too. I don't think your logic is entirely wrong, but it's missing a key ingredient. Wrestlers, especially ones in the big leagues, or the wrestlers in the top tier of the indies that are traveling to different cities every weekend, have a lot of time they spend traveling. So to pass the hours, whether they are riding in a car or taking a cross country flight to hit the next town, a lot of them spend their travel hours listening to things like political radio or podcasts like the one on Spotify that is making headlines for its divisiveness. Combine that with a warped sense of reality from living in kayfabe a bit too long and maybe a dose of CTE impacting their mental health, and you have a recipe for someone like Kendrick to fall into some deep rabbit holes.
