Really, what was the point in signing him? He’s an upgrade from Marko Stunt, I’ll give you that, but buddying up with the Jurassic Express is really the best they’ve got for him?
I’m not saying he should be champion, although that wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, but really a returning to action Christian should still be a big deal.
If he was still in WWE a reunion with Edge would be obvious money, but then an actual long term feud with Christian, at this point in their careers with the history and legacy of the two - that’s Wrestlemania worthy.
I dunno, he’ll be making good money and he doesn’t have to do much (if anything) but it’s still a waste.

To be fair, we don't know how much of his run has been all the decisions of the booking team or if some of it has been Christian's personal choice. It could very well be that he prefers a more semi-active role as a mentor both to keep himself healthier and to keep his in ring appearances more significant.
He's not doing what Bryan or Punk are doing, but a title victory over Omega and not that many losses is hardly a burial either.

He has the same Role Hardy does. A veteran mentor who is doing work to put over the newer talent.
He's been perfectly fine in the role.

I think given his age and relative name value he's over performed if anything.

Dude won a championship off of Kenny Omega on their show and main evented a PPV in a match for their main title.
He's had good multiman matches and seemingly has helped Jungle Boy in a big way when it comes to promos
Tony Kahn got his money's worth

AEW is using him perfectly. Mentoring the next generation and keeping him fresh for bigger matches. At his age he doesn't need to be wrestling every week. He'll have programs again against big time opponents, meanwhile tagging with Jurassic Express and being their mouthpiece is perfect for him.

I think there's two ways we can look at this:
One way agrees with OP. I'm sure we remember Christian's earlier TNA run and how great he was. The problem is basically the same as Big Show, Mark Henry, Billy Gunn. You got talent that's arguably bigger (Danielson, Punk, etc) that they're not needed in those roles even for quick runs. You have a lot of talent that needs tv and unfortunately Christian is just not a priority compared to others that need it more.
The other way disagrees with OP because we are not seeing these guys behind the scenes being coaches, helping the younger talent, being names that may help older fans come to AEW, or even scout talent. Mark Henry is supposedly good with scouting talent.

Literally got a clean win over Omega, held the Impact title and got a PPV feud. In WWE terms that's like if he feuded with Reigns and got a victory.
But yes, WWE would be using him better and absolutely wouldn't be jobbing him or using him as heat fodder for a heel feuding with Edge.

The WWE would have already sacrificed the Edge/Christian feud, and Christian would have been let go during "budget cuts".

Until the Jungle Boy vs Christian match happens, I choose to pass judgement on his run.

This entire spot is intended for him to eventually turn heel and put Jungle Boy over...that's not bad usage.

I groaned when they signed him, and I continue to not see a point in doing so.
Yeah, he's been "perfectly fine" in his role, but I'm certain wrestlers don't come back from retirement with the intent of an average and forgettable run. I hope he enjoyed being in Impact again though lol.

Christian is already helping JB improving on the mic, JBs last promo you could notice he is getting more confident cutting promos.

He's looked good in his matches so I'd like to see him wrestle more often but we don't know what toll they took and how many matches he's got left in him. He might have decided to take a step back.

So Christian would have been better in WWE because they would have re-hashed a story they told two decades ago?
Also, you saying "buddying up with Jurrasic Express" as a bad thing, when Jungle Boy is a cornerstone of the company, AND pretending he didnt pin Kenny Omega, shows an awful lot of lack of knowledge of his place in AEW.

Hard disagree. Some great matches under his belt and I don’t think it can be understated how much he’s helped Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus’ presentation. In particular, Jungle Boy.

Honestly, the first match with Omega on Rampage is worth everything they paid for him alone, that thing was just a lot of fun. The PPV match wasn’t as good but man, that ending…
