The biggest issue I saw was the out of context just playing the Statlander part I've been seeing. In the back and forth it makes sense; but it keeps appearing like Statlander just randomly said "No wonder you couldn't get adopted".

The line would work better if Statlander dropped the half-assed alien gimmick (which basically amounts to eye makeup and a goofy hometown at this point) and just portrayed herself as an asskicker.

Are they gonna bring Kris' struggles, whatever they are into this,? Because for me I had to hope daily to get adopted from a Russian orphanage beats I pretend to be an alien in terms of what makes someone a babyface. The point never was Kris' struggles, the point was Leyla's been an asshole for weeks, and then when she had to own up to her actions, she played it off and questioned Kris' comeup in life by trying to throw her own backstory into the mix unprovoked to try and justify her actions and essentially gaslight Kris in the process. I'm flabbergasted this has any controversy whatsoever tbh, this is a babyface backstory, but Hirsch used it in a heel way, after hurting her former friends for the last like two months. She brought it to the table, I'm glad Statlander didn't just stand there and take it. It's also not like Leyla seemed to take it personally either, she just basically flipped into "I'm gonna kick your ass and show you I'm the better wrestler" immediately after. I'm coming into this only having read recaps prior to 3 weeks ago when I got access to TBS/TNT again. So it's very possible I missed things. But from last night alone that's my take & Leyla came out 100% as the babyface.

Look whatever people think about it we can all agree it did its job in bringing more interest in this feud since people are now talking about it. Statlander as a babyface won't be damaged one bit by this. I much prefer it to Statlander chasing Hirsch around the ring and then stopping because Layla went up a slight incline. Aliens still know about Star Wars and how dangerous the high ground is.

What part of the Alien gimmick does she actually do on TV though? Like she does the boop spot, in terms of actual character and even in promos, she doesn't really do much of the alien stuff and is just portrayed as an asskicker.

I’ll leave it at this, I wish people understood what it’s like being adopted and why an insult about an orphanage can be offensive. I’m out.

I literally don't think anyone here was undermining any real life hardships anyone adopted may face. But when a villain who has been trying to injure people for weeks tries to gaslight using their hardships as a defense, I don't think it should be out of line for the protagonist in kayfabe to turn that right back around in their face when they are the ones that brought it up and tried to use it in the first place. It's all a storyline anyway, Kris wasn't actually insulting Leyla's upbringing, this wasn't some weird shoot, it was all planned out and approved by Hirsch in the first place.

She's dropped a lot of it already, but the stink of it is still there. She should drop the rest too and just be no-nonsense. As it is, it's like seeing the Red Rooster tell the city of Pittsburgh that this is where you'd stick the hose if you were giving the U.S. an enema. Even if it's a good line, it doesn't mesh with who's saying it.

The alien stuff is over. She has zero reason to drop it.

This actually makes this feud seem more intense, and makes me want see the actual match more. It did its job as a promo.
I'm sure Leyla was aware of what Kris was going to say and for all we know might have fed her that line

This has got to be the most unnecessarily long thread ever given the discussions that have been had in it and original intent
Just thought it was a good burn of a line in a vignette promo on Rampage, I can't believe it had gotten this serious with some peeps. It really should not be this serious or need to escalate to this point.

I don't mind a babyface that bites back. Depending on the character. I don't think everyone should though. Just didn't fit the character to me. Gonna have to disagree here. If TK wants her to stay over, Statlander had to come back with some kind of fury in her promo. I wouldn’t have necessarily green lighted a line about adaption personally, I realize the sensitivity around that. You don’t want the face offending the audience in the effort to cut down the fictional bad guy. But a wise promoter should always have their babyfaces come back strong physically or on the mic in some way. We gotta remember there’s a huge sea of different babyfaces types and an infinite variety of styles of faces that can get over. It’s never just a two-option choice between Ricky Steamboat and Steve Austin ‘97. Not to mention, Steamboat had nights where he’d come out pissed for the angle and beat up heels like Muraco with such rage he looked borderline heelish. All upper card faces have to go ham some times. To tell the truth, Jungle Boy is someone else in AEW who sells a lot and perhaps more than they should, even though the company’s high on him. He could afford to make fun of some more heels on promos and look stronger in buildups, embarrass some managers without looking like a bully.

If anyone was wondering, yes Leyla was legit adopted. Yup. Also, she has a twin sister, who was adopted with her. I believe they are fraternal twins, I am unsure, though, off-hand. Off topic, but she was trained by Joe Gacy, which is kind of interesting. Sleeper agent for the cult, I’ll bet.

An adopted kid watching that could think that the babyface thinks there’s something I did wrong to cause my parents giving me up for adoption. I’m sure that’s a big struggle for many in that situation so to have the face in a feud say it seems wrong to me. I think it is pretty analogous to dropping an abortion line in a promo.

Is it? Statlander doesn't seem particularly over to me compared to Baker, Thunder Rosa, and the top women contenders. She's about as mid-card as mid-card gets, and maybe the remnants of the gimmick are what's holding her back.

That was my biggest issue with the line. As someone who can relate to the heel in this story it really wasn't a line that needed to be crossed whether layla approved it or not

It was just a line in a Rampage promo, I think it went to some places it really didn't need to go. I don't think that's a controversial thought to have, nor did I say anyone couldn't feel that way.
