If he can do it, why not make him a big 4 attraction. Summerslam Survivor Series Royal Rumble Wrestlemania If he can make it work. Because he's 57 years old.

Austin has said many times he wouldn’t return because he knows that he couldn’t give a 100% - and why would he want to anyway. The only way I could see this happening is if it was against the Rock or John Cena

My only problem with this is Owens as the opponent. It should be Reigns, Lesnar, Cena or Orton.

The only way I could see this happening is if it was against the Rock or John Cena He doesn’t usually say it’s because he couldn’t give 100%. He usually says he can get ready, train and have that one more match, but then what?

Austin won't (and shouldn't) do it. But if you're WWE and seeing the show is in Texas, on Peacock, and a year from The Rock wrestling, why not?
It's a smart marketing strategy... but it won't happen.

Well, think about it this way; Austin would have to win his first match back, it’d be super weird if if he didn’t. Any of those men you mentioned, besides Cena, are still consistently on the shows and are the most protected, biggest stars on the show. Are you going to have any of them lose to a 50 something year old Steve Austin who hasn’t wrestled a full match since 2003?

If Austin was going to wrestle again after 2003 it should have been against Hogan some time in the mid-late 2000’s. Having him come back in 2022 at his age is insanity for him. I doubt he does it.

If Austin does wrestle, it’ll be because he thinks he can do it. He has too much professional pride to go out there and not give what he feels the audience deserve, which is as close to peak Stone Cold as possible.
Also WrestleMania is in Texas this year which will have a lot more attraction to Austin rather than a random Saudi show for blood money.
Plus if he is actually wrestling Owens, then he’ll be in there with someone who will be able to take the bumps and fly about to make Austin look amazing. Post-97 Austin wasn’t exactly known for high flying action.

I think something we haven't totally discussed is like...yes, Austin's last match was fitting from a storytelling standpoint, but he was in the hospital beforehand and was apparently living really hard at the time and had a really tough time with letting go. It may be good from a storytelling standpoint, but maybe he wants a different end. A match at a huge WrestleMania in Texas when he's at a different point in his life and feeling better overall seems like a fitting end. Maybe it's later on than we wanted or maybe even he wanted, but maybe it's something that he just wants to do. I understand that could just be me speculating, but it's just something I figured I'd throw out there.

What'll get the Stone Cold character out of retirement? A title shot? A dream match with Goldberg? A shot at The Streak when that was a thing? Heyman calling him out for a Brock match on the podcast? One last shot at Vince? Or even Shane?
Nope! But someone was talkin' 'bout Texas, y'all!
When something like this is the key, I don't know if it makes Owens look really smart or Austin look really dumb, so I'd rather they just not do that story at all. Even Austin vs Theory would make more sense.

I'd rather he didn't return to pull a Sally Squirrel but it's his life, his career. If he's healthy and raring to go more power to him.

Well, if that's actually the plan I take back what I said. Don't do it. Yikes.

I almost had a conniption before I saw this clarification. What a truly awful idea that would have been. Someone coming off a 19 year retirement who needs to be protected in the ring and the person you trust with taking care of him...is Goldberg.
