Why NOT call it a match? Unless Steve specifically said he doesn't want to call it a match because he doesn't feel he's ready for what he feels is a "genuine" wrestling match, why not just let it be 5-10 minutes of Kevin Owens getting his ass kicked mixed in with some heel cheating/cowering? It’s definitely because Stone Cold said so. He’s been extremely hesitant about having a return match over the years, he’s probably hesitant to call it a match even though he is likely ready to perform as if it is a match.

Funny how out of touch the regular media is on this. It hasn't been 20 years, that's for sure. I mean, to be fair, they did say “nearly” 20 years which is accurate. No it's not. Austin has been around plenty and gotten physical since his last match. This isn't going to be a match at Wrestlemania so the headline is still wrong.

Which just makes all the advertising of it and promotion so far super weird but still.

Good workaround would be for them to advertise it as an Unsanctioned street fight, similar to AEW’s Lights Out matches.

It'll probably be entrance, smacktalk, boot and stunner but imagine if Kevin actually counters and beats the snot out of austin to massive heat which would put over Owens hugely as a big time heel and would be a huge surprise instead of what everyone assumes going going to happen!

If it’s like every other time some babyface gets laid out in their home city/state/country, it’ll be ineffective.

Austin is a talent that is both hard to read because he is masterful at blurring the line but also makes it obvious when he is REALLY into whatever it is he is doing. He is gonna put in the effort into whatever this is but compare it to when he and Heyman talked about the Brock match and how you could see the stark difference to this promo. Yup, like this below. Austin was into this heavy. You bought every word this man was saying and it was real. I've always loved this promo. Two of the best of all time bringing their A-game. It's also way too good to be just promotion for a video game. It could've been for a WrestleMania main event and it would not feel at all out of place. I wish Austin had felt up to it at the time, because the energy is just off the charts.

I always felt if Austin were to come back outside of Saudi Arabia for an actual match, with no reservations like he's having now, it would have been for Punk. There was something there around Punk in 2011-2012 where it felt like that was going to be the natural conclusion at a Mania.
Brock, that would have been the only potential matchup with more money in it, and I'm sure Austin personally feels he should put over Brock if he were to return, but there would be a lot of issues with making that match work. Punk didn't have those.
