Just as the title of the thread says. As we all know, the original Doink was played by Matt Osborne. A prankster who enjoyed playing dirty tricks on the WWF superstars as well as fans, when the bell rang, the funny man was all business wowing the audience with his technical prowress.
During his heel run, the evil trickster had matches with Mr. Perfect, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, and most notably Bret Hart showing he can hang with the boys despite wearing a clown costume. His most notable feud was with Crush who he owned at every turn, with the highlight of it being defeating the Native Hawaiian at Wrestlemania IX due to shenanigans with the help of a doppleganger.
In September 1993, the evil clown saw the light as he turned babyface against Jerry "The King" Lawler. However, shortly afterwards Osbourne was fired and instead of nixing the character altogether, they slapped multiple people in the gear(most notably Steve "Brooklyn Brawler" Lombardi) until settling on Ray Apollo.
Along with the face turn and switching the performers, the clown switched to being a happy go lucky one, playing light-hearted pranks on his adversaries(such as dousting Bastion Booger's pizza with hot sauce) along with getting a midget sidekick Dink. His most notable feud in that run was with Bam Bam Bigelow who he lost to at Wrestlemania X in a tag team match(with Dink and Luna as their respective tag team partners). He then slipped further down the card being a comedy jobber.
That being said, were you able to tell when they switched the performers behind the make up. I'm not even counting Men on A Mission and The Bushwhackers playing them since they made it obvious they weren't really him, but with those who were roughly Osbourne's side? I couldn't at the time, and with them playing the whole double Doinks thing before his face turn, it goes to show the character was interchangeable, especially when guys such as Jeff Jarrett and Chris Jericho donned the costume to fool their rivals.
Looking back at it now, I can (mostly) tell the rest of the Doinks from the original one, especially in photos where Osbourne's make up comes off as he had a scary looking face(which made it perfect for the role), especially when he did that scrowl of his.
How about you?
