I don’t know what happened to that old simpsons thread, but I just wanted to say that I just watched the latest episode and I thought “wow that was a really nice episode”. Felt completely out of an earlier season.
I don’t know if something happened to their writers but I’ve been enjoying almost every episode the last year or two

Haven't seen it yet, forgot to record it and it's not on Disney+ yet, but based on your little review, I feel confident in giving all the credit to Matt Selman. His episodes are always stand-outs and maybe Al Jean is losing some of his grip on the series.

sure i've been coasting along to the simpsons for a while
and the A SERIOUS FLANDERS dropped, absolutely NAILING it
for all the times they've riffed for titles, they've never really explored actually parodies of franchises in a full way ... this one they never missed a beat, never missed a point ... and made it so you even couldn't differentiate BETWEEN theirs and the real thing!
beautiful two episodes

Season 33's been really good. Surprisingly good. A lot of more focused episodes based around the canon and the characters. And episodes like "A Serious Flanders" which feel super fresh and creative. Honestly, if the most you've watched of Simpsons in the past few years are those Disney shorts, then you're missing out on what's been a really strong return lately.
