So if I understand this, according to Netflix; Make a bunch of transphobic comments and make up a story about a trans woman who committed suicide, be able to produce specials. Slap someone on stage at the Oscars, potentially stop production on a movie. Good to know. Not an overreaction at all. Some things are nastier than others, but that doesn't make other things not nasty. It's kind of like the Sunny situation. I'm all for retracting her WWE HOF entry, for what that's worth, but once you do that, when do you stop? There's loads of skeletons in the closets of other inductees, at least two also involve murder.

I can't see what the Academy can do anymore. There was only really two choices: revoke the Oscar and suspend/kick Smith out. Smith has already resigned, which leaves them with revoking the Oscar. But, as others have said, if they take his Oscar, then what about the Oscars of Polanski et al?
He'll probably just be banned from future ceremonies and events or something.

With WWE, I think the only breaking points are MSM coverage and if the sponsors or anyone who means $$$$ to them intervenes. Most incidents have not matched or exceeded the coverage of the Benoit incident, so I can see them thinking they don't have to sweat those.

On a personal level, I certainly think Sunny and Snuka should be withdrawn. Nothing personal against you at all, but I take issue with anytime someone says 'well where do you draw the line?' as it's often used by individuals to diminish or invalidate a legimate discussion. There is a line, and its very much up to debate on where that line is drawn, but the line exists you know?

If they could have minimized the impact somehow of the Benoit incident, they'd not do what they did, I'm sure.

I don't think Will cares too much about this, but I'm already hearing rumblings that this is too severe a punishment. It'll be hilarious when Will comes back and gets a standing ovation, assuming the Oscars still exists by then.

Yeah, 10 seems pretty crazy but honestly, if it was really the choice between that and the headache of the discourse of taking away his Oscar, this is the “best” choice.

10yrs works...quite frankly he should have went to jail for a bit ontop of it but can't have everything.
I expect them to immediately back down from it scale it to a 3-4yr ban in a few days.

I kinda hope every event has a "DO NOT ADMIT THIS MAN" sign with his face on it at the front desk next to the Scott Steiner one.

He literally walked up on stage and slapped someone. Hes lucky he didn't get perm banned from that. This is getting off light. Although the academy still being majority old white men and deciding this punishment doesn't sit well with me

The issue is; if they're willing to drop the ban hammer on Will Smith for this, why is it that they're so lenient on the Roman Polanskis who have committed far worse crimes? It's a similar thought process that other groups like sports leagues have presented, where sexual misconduct against minors is tolerable but, for example, accepting bribes is worth a figurative death penalty. It's all really exploring the mindset of what is acceptable ethics and what isn't.

Will Smith should start his own Academy Events. With Blackjack and Hookers.
