I once loved Family Guy. It ended on that day seven years ago...

I loved the pre cancelation Family Guy. I remember stumbling upon the DVDs and snapping them up. This is one of the shows that physical media helped bring back.

Didn't watch the video yet, but I remember when the cutaways and in jokes were quick and to the point. I think they started getting away from that right before they were cancelled. Being on Adult Swim, it definitely wore itself out quickly given how often they aired it and the fact there was only like 50 episodes, I could almost recite beat for beat some of the episodes.
Then when it came back, I was curious about it, but after watching 2 episodes of season 4 I really didn't care for it. In fact, it seemed like being on Adult Swim conditioned some of their jokes to be long and drawn out. A lot of times, the concept of the joke was better than the execution, but then on top of that, they would hold on the joke for twice as long as they needed to.
On top of that, and it isn't just Family Guy but...the animation is just terrible. A lot of the time the shots are incredibly flat with minimal adjustment outside of characters blinking. They hang on master shots for the majority of the scene with very few back up shots. Unfortunately, this is something that a lot of computer animated shows do nowadays. Animation needs to be a visual art and when the majority of the value comes in the dialogue versus the image, then it may as well not even be animated.

With my humble opine, I will say that I find The Family Guy shallow and pedantic.

Love's a strong word - was kind of always a lot more into American Dad when it was good - but there is certainly a period of the show where it was often pretty funny and post-season 4 isn't it. The show wasn't at its worst on returning from the cancellation, not great but that period does have its highlights, but it does kind of mark the clearest turning point toward just how wretched the show would eventually become.

So... Did anyone watch the video? I did. I now know what will replace dehydrated Kayla Braxton in my nightmares... ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I really did enjoy the hell out of the show, but I haven’t bothered to watch it for quite some time.

Seth hasn’t even wanted to make it for years.
Only reason he’s kept it going is for leverage with Fox to get the things he truly cared about made, like Cosmos and Orville.
He’s been vocal recently about how badly he wished the show wasn’t on Fox, I won’t be surprised if he bailed at the next opportunity.

I watched the debut episode after the Super Bowl in ‘99, I still enjoy watching the show till this day. I even bought all the DVD’s until Disney stopped putting them out.
