I guess their point is that very few media faces picked them to win the Super Bowl (and in a lot of cases, the AFC West). Which is true, but more a reflection on how the media landscape works and how nobody is getting any engagement off picking the Kansas City Chiefs in September. Yeah, there was clearly some doubt with Russell Wilson coming into the division and Tyreek Hill getting shipped out, but it was clear after a few weeks that they were going to be absolutely fine. I'd still say that most picked the Bills to represent the AFC early in the year, but KC had to be right behind them. Yeah, everyone thought it was going to be a dogfight in the AFC West, but most folks still had the Chiefs as the clear division winner. And KC, Buffalo, and Cincinnati were seen as the top tier of the AFC and that's what got represented in the playoff seeding. Then the Raiders and Russell Wilson fell off a cliff, and that was on top of Denver's awful coaching from Ashy Hackett. So it was the Chiefs and the Chargers with playoff berths. And the Chargers did as they are wont to do and choke hard in the postseason.

I think Vrabel is a good coach and neither Tanny nor (more importantly) Henry are washed. They were also 7-3 before the wheels fell off. So I'm not ready to hand the Jags that division yet. To me the main problem on offense is that they have had their O-line regress and they need to restock with WRs and TEs who block well for Henry. The Titans are hardly the only team in the division with that issue. Jonathan Taylor was severely hampered this past season by the losses of Fisher (LT), Glowinski (RG), Doyle (TE1), and, believe it or not, Pascal (WR4). All of them were key cogs in helping with run blocking. They were initially replaced by Pryor (a turnstyle at LT), Pinter (somehow a terrible RG despite being a fine C), a bunch of TEs who don't block well, and Dulin, who is fine as a speedster but doesn't block all that well. After Raimann got his feet under him and Fries was plugged in at RG things got a little better, but not for Taylor as he had gotten hurt by that point. It helped make Moss look good, though.

Here's a fun little project now that the 2022 season has come and gone. Here are my predictions for who will be under center for each of the 32 teams come opening weekend this autumn, broken down into categories based on how confident I am about each prediction.
THE UNQUESTIONED STARTERS Bears: Justin Fields Bengals: Joe Burrow Bills: Josh Allen Broncos: Russell Wilson Browns: DeShaun Watson Chargers: Justin Herbert Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes Cowboys: Dak Prescott Eagles: Jalen Hurts Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence Rams: Matthew Stafford Ravens: Lamar Jackson Vikings: Kirk Cousins
THE NEW STARTERS Buccaneers: Jimmy Garoppolo Colts: C.J. Stroud Commanders: Ryan Tannehill Jets: Aaron Rodgers Panthers: Derek Carr Raiders: Will Levis Texans: Bryce Young
THE SEAT ISN'T HOT YET, BUT IT'S GETTING WARM Giants: Daniel Jones Lions: Jared Goff Patriots: Mac Jones Seahawks: Geno Smith Steelers: Kenny Pickett Titans: Malik Willis
THE SEAT IS QUITE HOT 49ers: Trey Lance Falcons: Desmond Ridder Packers: Jordan Love Saints: Jameis Winston
THE INJURY QUESTIONS Cardinals: Colt McCoy Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa

I'd be surprised if they rolled with him. Cardinals are in a tricky spot if Kyler isn't going to be healthy until mid-way through the season I think they're going to need a better option than Colt McCoy. Taylor Heinicke? I felt like a couple of years ago we were on the brink of having 32 competent quarterbacks in the league. Now it's back to being a bit of a mess.

I don't see any way the Colts end up with Stroud. And I prefer him slightly to Bryce, but no NFL GM would open themselves up to that type of scrutiny to take him over Bryce. So either the Colts trade up to 1 and take Bryce or they stay where they're at and he's gone. It's highly unlikely that the Texans do a deal just to move up one spot when they're good either way. I'm sure in Seth Rollins' fantasies they can double-dip and trade both the stud QB picks for two kings' ransoms, but not likely based in reality.

There are absolutely NFL GMs that would take Stroud (or Will Levis) over Bryce Young. Bryce is tiny. Like, "Literally smaller than Kyler Murray" tiny. I would guess he'll still be the first QB taken, but it would not be surprising at all if Stroud and/or Levis go ahead of him.

I just don't think anyone taking Will Levis over Bryce is in the realm of possibility unless Bryce measures under 5'10. If that happens, all bets are off. But it's one of those things that nobody knows with the way colleges fudge numbers. No one knows his real height til the Combine or Pro Day if he skips.

After that? A lot is still up in the air with him. He had games where he looked like a franchise QB and games where he looked like a third stringer. Granted, having a lot of injured skills players did him absolutely zero favors, but I think the most frustrating thing about last season with Jones is we still don't know for sure if he's the guy going forward. Granted, that's a huge improvement over "Busty McBustface" he was under Shurmur and Judge, but I'd rather know one way or another if it's time to move on or lock the guy down.

Honestly, if the Bears and Cardinals both trade out to QB needy teams, I could see the Colts explore trading with the the Lions to let the Lions leapfrog Seattle to get their pick of the defensive stars. I don’t think they’d trade much farther back than that. After all, they don’t want to have to overreach on Hooker or Tanner McGee simply because they let three teams get under them and deny them the chance to draft even Richardson.
