Jeff Saturday initially was refusing to discuss why Ifaedi Odeningbo was waived earlier this week, but eventually the press (mainly Gregg Doyle) badgered him into giving some details. He was waived for insubordination, though he refused to elaborate. At least that explains how a productive player gets cut.

Kliff Kingsbury and Nathaniel Hackett both but on Christmas Masterclasses today in why and how they will get fired into the sun when the season ends
They should both be cut tonight tbh... their organizations are justified in being Grinch's...

I think that Kingsbury will get at least one more year. Hackett should have never been hired. lol

I think that Kingsbury will get at least one more year. Hackett should have never been hired. lol With Hackett it all depends on who the new owners have as decision makers. Would I fire him? It’s unusual to only give a coach one year, but I absolutely would fire him. That locker room is a complete mess. I can forgive a bad first season usually as the roster is usually still built to the specifications of the previous coach, but I have to have faith that you can make a roster of your choosing going forward play hard and well. Hackett doesn’t give me that feeling, so I’d fire him. Kingsbury is a more interesting conversation. His overall record suggests that he is capable to coach an NFL team. Based on record alone, I’m not inclined to let a bad season filled with injuries and suspensions be the deciding factor. What would be my deciding factor? Well, I would need to understand why his teams keep falling apart late in the season. If it’s Kingsbury himself, I seriously consider replacing him. What could be the cause of the annual slide? There are multiple possible reasons: - It could be that Kingsbury isn’t good at in-season adjustments. Good teams have to adjust how they play throughout the season as teams adjust to them. If he can’t adjust, the team will never win with Kingsbury. - It could be an issue with team depth. NFL seasons are long and grueling. If a team cannot rely on their depth, especially on defense, then the team simply will always have a late season fade. That would imply that I need to fire the GM and Kingsbury’s fate is in the new GM’s hands. - It could be that it’s a maturity issue, primarily regarding the QB. It doesn’t matter how good Kingsbury’s mid-season adjustments might be if players don’t do the homework to learn those adjustments. Generally forcing people to do the homework necessary would be on the coach. After all, no one pulls this shit on Belichick or Andy Reid. Having said that, if the QB refuses to do the work it is harder to deal with. Honestly, I lean more towards the last two combining to cause those slides. I’d hire a new GM and give them the option to explore replacing Kingsbury.

I don't get why Denver would fire Hackett *now*. After the season? Sure, it's been a disaster. A month ago? Sure, you have a highly touted DC in Ejiro Eviro that has been talked about as a potential HC candidate, who you might as well give an audition to, to see if he can win your job (and, as an added bonus, if he were to fail as HC, that would probably make it easier to keep him as DC with a new HC next year). Now? There are two games left. What can Evero (or whoever becomes the interim coach - I haven't seen who it will be yet) do with two games left?

My guess is that the locker room fully turned against him. You get rid of him to restore some semblance of peace. It's nuts that it's the second year in a row where a first year head coach gets fired mid-season. Granted, Urban Meyer had extenuating circumstances. But neither should've been NFL head coaches to begin with.

Even with that, I feel like there were indications that he had lost the locker room a while back (and I don't think getting rid of him two games earlier than they otherwise would have would make a significant difference in locker room morale going into next season). I guess the true answer for why now is, "Getting the shit kicked out of you by a bad team on national TV is the last straw," and the new owners probably said to themselves, "We can't continue to be associated with this."

They have been planning to get rid of this dude for a while IMO. If they were losing but not getting blown out he probably would have made it through the season but when the announcers on the game and the analysts in the studio are just trashing the Broncos and their lack of effort, players are getting into it on the sideline, AND you let a decimated Rams team drop 50 on your supposed good defense means you've got to get this dude out of there.
Farewell Dumbassed Ashy Hackett I'll miss dunking on you weekly.
