I feel like we had this same thread during Shida’s run and something similar for Ruby as well.

I do wonder if we'd even be talking about this match in such detail if not for the "only one women's match a show" thing. For me, it always feels like it directs my attention to that single match in a way that I just don't for any other match on the card. Not that I would think the match was better for lacking the effect, but I wouldn't care enough to think about it and engage in a discussion about it. The Wrestletalk people bring that very idea up constantly in their reviews. You only get one match on the show, and if it is not great, it makes the division overall come across as worse than it arguably is. If you have a couple, you have some that are good, and some maybe kind of meh, then it gives you a better picture. That’s basically what happens with the men already. It’s not just that it’s one match per show, it’s that they put said match at the 9:30 period just before the main event every week almost without fail.

I think Rosa is the type of wrestler that benefits from having a proper story behind her matches. She's fiery and she gets the crowd behind her so give her something to get fired up against. It's a general criticism of AEW that so many of their title matches are just built on "Wrestler A has belt and Wrestler B wants belt" and that's fine, but it shouldn't be the go-to storyline every time.
Give Rosa a challenger that comes with an angle and she'll do better, I think. She's not the best promo but is perfectly fine in shorter pretaped stuff so get someone gunning for her personally and not just her title. If AEW had kept Tay wrestling over the last couple of months she would have been a great foil for Rosa and would have definitely brought some heel heat into it.

That’s what her feud with Deeb SHOULD have been imo. But they took a, weird, approach with that one?

" Emi Sakura feels Thunder Rosa's kicks look amateur compared to Miyu Yamashita, yet she won the match by hitting a kick followed by her finisher. She feels that's why Rosa is not seen as a "high-level champion", because she never looks good trying to do things she's not used to doing. "
I hope Rosa doesnt take it the wrong way, Emi comments is to help her, not to bury her....

I know this is harping on a point I made but Kenny producing the match definitely would have caught on that But that brings another point ,Emi rocks have her help producing matches

Its more clear that the issue was the person laying out the match
Rosa did more strikes than Miyu,(29 to 22) which is kinda laughable. Kenny wouldve produced a better match

Emi's comments remind me of Suzuki talking about wrestlers being more interesting if they're excellent in one area and have weaknesses in others rather than being good but not great at everything.
It's something a lot of wrestlers would benefit from taking on board, not just Rosa.

I made a comparison of how this spot usually goes compared to Thunder Rosa making a complete mess of it.
How do you botch laying down?

I still have to watch the match, but what Emi’s describing is a huge reason for the success of wrestlers like Okada, or even going back to guys like Flair; you don’t try and match what your opponent does, you wrestle your match but also integrate confronting your opponent’s strength, *trying* to match them, but falling short. For examples, think of Okada getting tossed around by a monster like Fale or a hoss like Cobb, or trying but failing to match Suzuki or Sabre on the mat, or being the one to crumple when trying to trade strikes with Shibata. Ultimately Okada is still the ace, so he’ll figure out a way to win whether by outsmarting his opponent or through sheer determination to overcome their advantages, but by wrestling that way you make your opponent look strong by having talents they’re clearly the best at but make yourself look strong because your style still came out on top. I’m glad Emi brought this up, because I do feel like something’s been nagging at me about some of Rosa’s more recent matches, and it’s possible that she’s just trying to do too much or show that she can wrestle any style at the same level as elite strikers or what have you, rather than leaning into her own style to overcome such challenges.

Whoever the agent is for the women’s matches is not doing them justice. I suspect it’s Dustin.
But Rosa has gaps she needs to fill in her game.

Did she not know the move? Don't know what happened there, but there's definitely some major miscommunication there, since you can see Yamashita clearly motioning for Rosa to lay down...before deciding "screw it" & just doing the kick.

Did she not know the move? She must. Miyu hits it nearly every match and although I can't remember for sure I would assume Rosa must have took it in their first match. A match that had no such issues. Most charitably she stumbled too far forward on the first kick which made the leg sweep awkward and then lost her head. But then there's other things like standing too close for kicks and kicking out of the skull kick instead of weakly reaching the ropes (she sort of did both). All of which made Miyu's nerves worse. All very strange.

I dont know if it was a good idea having Rosa wear that sandbagging shirt, its like example Cena came with a "I cant wrestle" shirt.
