Vince is a billionaire. We all know how the world works. If he wants to have an affair, he has a lot of women he can choose from. The fact that he did it with one of his own employees is telling. At that point, it's more than sex. It's about power and using it to control someone. Even in the healthiest scenario, a CEO sleeping with someone low on the totem pole is really really bad. And it gets worse if she was rewarded for it. And that isn't even touching the money issue.

Starting with the very basic: You dont pay Hush Money for something you didnt do wrong. He didn't rape her. It was consensual. She didn't have to take the money. Again, we don't know if this really happened. Someone emailed the board of directors and said this happened. So, until this proven fact, I have no problem with it. Power dynamics chief. Coercion. Etc. That's not consensual except in the most semantic of senses |

Yeah, like, if your boss approaches you with, "Sleep with me and I'll give you a promotion or millions of dollars or whatever," what do you think is going to happen if you say no? He's just going to quietly let you keep working there like nothing happened? That can be the case but it often isn't, and many people probably wouldn't want to risk it, because the power dynamic there is not equal whatsoever.

Like, not being funny, we spent the summer of 2020 talking about people in the British scene in particular who did shit like that on a consistent basis for way low stakes. Harvey Weinstein is in prison likely for the rest of his life for stuff like this. |

Because I can totally imagine segments of the IWC taking a ball like that and running with it. You (well, the generalized "you", not you specifically because....) just _know_ that AEW promos for the next week are going to be all over this news like kudzu. If this had happened during the Monday Night Wars, Eric Bischoff would have been all over this Even Vince himself has been known to use social or political comedy as fodder in his personal plaything and televised opinion piece that is WWE, likewise against competition in the industry. It's a carny business, they'll take cheap heat/pops wherever they can get them, especially if it means they get to take pot shots at people they don't like. Also, to the people who mentioned him doing this on TV, for all the world to see, under the guise of it being "Mr McMahon" and not "Vince McMahon, CEO and Chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment", absolutely right. It was pretty rough to watch even back then, and that was when it was portrayed as entirely fictional behaviour, but you know he had to be into it to keep having himself be put in that role. Divas as mistresses, people literally kissing his ass, doing the "YOUUUUUUU'RE FIIIIIIIIIIRED" thing, it's all just a big ol' red flag with "POWER FANTASY" "EGO TRIP" written on it in neon yellow paint. (Changed "power fantasy" to "ego trip" because it's not really a fantasy if you're actually doing it, for real, it's just physical reality at that point.) |

People might think I'm nuts for changing my opinion. But after thinking about it and reading the full story according to Fightful, I'm changing my mind. I can't defend Vince McMahon. This sounds legit and not made up. He gave this woman a promotion while he was releasing talent. That is disgusting. If it is true, I hope he pays for this, but he probably won't.

Yep, the power imbalance is just to large to ignore. It’s so out of whack that consensual just can’t have the sa,e. Eamimg that it otherwise might. For me, it’s unethical for a higher-up to initiate sexual activity with an employe. It’s just almost impossible for that arrangement to be fair and healthy. If the employee is the one to initiate? Fine
But just like with normal consent, that initiation has to be enthusiastic.
