When will AEW get 1 million again? When they book a College World Series Brawl or something. Should get Lombardi to do the “Knuckleball” Schwartz gimmick. AEW’s got all the other ex-WWE guys anyway, amirite?

When will AEW get 1 million again? I’d say when the angels win the pennant

I can't believe we're at the point that AEW not getting more viewers than a College World Series game on at a completely separate time is an actual thing being argued as them not doing well I'd rather AEW consistently get a 900K average and be number one on cable on the night then constantly throw out excuses and concern trolling about the "almighty million", which they have gotten plenty of times even when the ratings have been lower during segments... but whatever, not worth the energy Until next week when Blood and Guts draws like 980K average and the world ends I do hope it gets over a million personally but I think it'll do well.

You’re not taking this seriously enough. NCAA Baseball doesn’t even have its own tab on ESPN’s website like cricket does. AEW is less popular in the United States than the Gujarat Titans! At this rate we’ll be lucky if AEW even makes it to Sunday to put on Forbidden Door.

In no way does that make sense but yes Fox News getting more total viewers than anything on cable is certainly meaningful. What does it mean? I mean, it can mean lots of things. The correlation of age to conventional television viewing habits, the trend of those demographics to primarily consume news content, tons of stuff on the nature of the 24-hour news system and all of the ugly side effects therein, a reason to understand Neilsen ratings as a necessary evil the industry is using as it grows more and more outdated but to also seek out other metrics and methodologies to gain a fuller picture of a company's performance because a holistic intake of different data is what companies are actually living by and we're mostly just fighting over scraps from Showbuzz Daily (with only WWE's quarterly reports giving us much insight into any further numbers across the whole industry), the fact that wrestling can still outperform most things that are not the vampiric misery treadmill of what happened when networks saw how much money the OJ Simpson trial got them and decided "We need to make the news into something people will consume in hours-long perpetuity". I don't know if that guy thinks it means any of those things or is interested in having those conversations about media in 2022 that I genuinely no-gimmick-here find interesting, but they're there?

Those conversations are extremely interesting in my opinion, but we’re not allowed to have them on this forum, and I don’t really think they have much of anything to do with wrestling. Cable news is its own world.

Found these ratings from last year. Numbers are pretty similar, although the reduced ones are different days of the week: April 14 - Blood & Guts 1.21 M (0.44) April 21 - 1.1M (0.37) April 28 - 889K (0.33) May 5 - 1.09M (0.42) May 13 - 936K (0.31) May 20 - 821K (0.28) May 28 - 526K (0.20) June 4 - 462K (0.19) June 11 - 487K (0.19) June 18 - 552K (0.20) June 26 - 649K (0.21) June 30 - 883K (0.35) July 07 - 871K (0.33) July 14 - 1.02M (0.40)Pretty normal when compared to this year. The ratings adjusted back to normal on July 14th so I'm not sure if that's when full crowds started to come back. Also, if I knew how to post screenshotted photos, it would have saved me typing the bloody thing 😂.So basically June in general is one of the quietest months. I'm guessing people have more to do than watch tv or there's a lot of sport.

Anyway yeah I think there's definitely nuance and discussion to be had in discussing ratings and their bearings even when both companies can put on the top show of their night. Year-on-year relative figures for WWE, how effectively AEW is growing or holding its audience. "They were the top show of their night" doesn't have to be the end of a conversation. But it sure as hell has to be a piece on the table while you're looking at any other data. Real data too, not what has a tab on ESPN's website. That's trending toward the level of comedy of that guy who showed up to blame Raw's downward rating trends on Becky Lynch because his mom doesn't like when the girls hit each other.

I will say something I have mixed opinions on in regards to this is how well of a job AEW's actually done at building up its roster. On one hand it feels like a good sign that they can hit number one even without Punk, MJF, Kenny, Britt, or a meaningful appearance from Darby or the Bucks (plus with Bryan injured, though he was on the show), but on the other I do definitely think a lot of the people holding the fort down without them don't feel nearly as important and it gives the shows this definite, "We're just holding the line until the big names get back," feeling.

Believe it. The answer is obvious. Copy what WWE is doing. Treat the wrestlers like garbage, Have talent walk out and drop belts, be embroiled in blood money and sex scandals, give people bait and switch matches or better yet just have false advertising. I'll await the inevitable giggles from the peanut gallery when Blood and Guts draws something like 600k or something equally inexplicable.

Well I think that's the double edged sword of injuries. It takes away top stars which in theory can open up spots for others...but then you don't have those stars to put over the up and coming talent.

Last year they got momentum when they did 4 specials in a row(RR, Fyter Fest Day 1 and 2, and Fight for the Fallen).

Man, the shots you guys take at each other are so unneccessary.
Like jeez lots of thinly veiled snipes at people in here for not being as excited about other people about AEW.
Anyway I love New Japan but it's hard to deny I'm not as excited as I was two months ago. MJF being off TV and Punk being gone really hurt them. I have no interest in Mox as champ again. They really need to find someone new to get into that main event scene fast.

There’s a difference between not being as excited about AEW or this PPV as you once were and trolling for a rise out of people that AEW is in trouble (despite being #1 on cable) because its total viewership was lower than a couple of College World Series games. And extra points for getting in my DMs telling me I spelled “loath” wrong because dude doesn’t know the difference between “loath” (an adjective) and “loathe” (a verb).

Third post in this thread is someone getting defensive about a fight no one is having and it continues to be a mess from there. I don't need to hear the story about who you're having a fight with, just ignore the dumb PM, report it to the mods and move on.
