After Money in the Bank Shotzi was receiving a ton of online criticism for the mistakes she made. She replied, basically saying “I’m human, mistakes happen” and then deleted her entire account. amp.wrestlinginc.com/news/2022/07/shotzi-deletes-her-twitter-account/I’m no big Shotzi fan, in fact she’s an instant channel changer for me, but this is pretty shitty. Wrestling fans, man.

I thought, honestly, the match was great. But, you know what, like, take a joke, Take a joke, bud.
(Seriously, people are ridiculous).

I hate when a certain sect of wrestling fans make other wrestling fans look bad and reinforce the stereotypes of us being cro-magnon creeps.
Good for her to get off of Twitter and not let the bullying absorb into her life.

Fans of stuff have always had bad apples, but the immediate availability of celebrities on social media brings out a certain type of toxic fan, ones who feel extremely entitled to the celebrity's attention, and feel it means they have some kind of say in things. It's just gross.

Shout into the void by all means (within reason) but I just don't get why so many feel the need to tag/@(/whatever it's called) the person they're critisising.
I can't tell if they're just mean or don't know how twitter works. Or maybe I don't get how it works. Stupid twitter.

I can't tell if they're just mean or don't know how twitter works. Or maybe I don't get how it works. Stupid twitter. That’s my take from my limited experience with Twitter. People who type things like “Shotzi is having an off night” or something perfectly reasonable like that, tend not to tag the account of that person they’re criticising. The ones who want to type toxic and hurtful comments nearly always tag that person specifically.

That's just another reason why Twitter is one nightmarish hell of a toxic landscape. True, I only brushed on the bad side with it but still...
Hoping for Shotzi to feel better after this.

Absolutely; one's logical mind can say "there are thousands/millions of people commenting on [insert event here], just getting a few hundred negative comments and bullying is a drop in the bucket"...but that's not what it feels like for the person who's facing the bullying and harassment. It's why even a small band of trolls and/or targeted bot accounts can drive people away from social media platforms; the idea of hundreds of people sending you awful, poor faith, downright insulting or even threatening messages, some of them no doubt doing it daily, is overwhelming for anyone, our brains are literally not wired to process something like that. Even if many more people are showing you appreciation or at least being respectful, it's impossible to ignore what can feel like an endless chorus of awfulness.

I never really got the point of Twitter: there's not enough space for nuance or context and it's woefully misused as if it's an instant messenger rather than a social-media platform.
It's the worst of all of them. Instagram is too image-heavy and lacks the context of a timeline. Pinterest is fun, but again can lack timelines and absolutely lacks discussion. Facebook has come closest, but has been so woefully abused through its algorithms by bad actors that even its utility is questionable (but it's still the best of a bad lot.) The Twitter bullies tend to get destroyed utterly on Facebook, if not ignored among the admirers and supportive folk. Watching Twitter ban public figures can be highly entertaining, though, especially when said figures take to YouTube to complain and are exposed there.

Years ago, probably around 2010/2011 I used to do drunk TNA live reviews on Twitter and generally shit all over the product. I never tagged anyone or the company. What’s the point other then being an asshole?

The scary thing is the line between Stan and Hater is extremely thin. Neither she nor any other wrestler need this garbage. Good for her for getting off the platform.

Social media is so f***ed up. It manages to be terribly personal and completely impersonal, all at once. Because the person to whom the insults and criticism is being directed can’t help but take it personally. But the person hurling those insults can pretend that it’s just another screen on the other end. And I just can’t imagine being that devoid of empathy. I didn’t see the match. I have no idea how major or minor Shotzi's mistakes were. But do you think she doesn’t know? Do you think that she’s not already beating herself up over messing up on a big stage? Does it make you feel good to kick someone when their down? Or is that just easier than taking a look in the mirror?

I'm sorry this happened to her. Maybe someone should go to these people's jobs and eyeball them hard for mistakes they make throughout the day.

I really have no idea how any female wrestler is on Twitter. The fan base is frightening. Seriously. Like, it can definitely be a powerful tool for promotion, but even ones who are good at leveraging it for their careers like Jordynne Grace still often end up having to take time away from it when abuse gets too bad.
