“I will speak of my brother as I wish. You will not.” Love the characterization of the relationship between Viserys and Daemon Really the whole cast is just knocking it out of the park for me. Daemon is an asshole but I really do like him because what you see is what you get

For those who have read the books {Spoiler} It occured to me today that due to casting decisions made around House Velaryon, if the show continues on to, or they do another spin off around, the Blackfyre Rebellion, the Blackfyres will be mixed race, which would add a racial element to that whole story.
That could be interesting - as I assume we'll touch on it with the 'Strong' children in this series eventually - though it may also be utterly ignored by anyone in the show while modern commentators wet themselves at the possible racial issues being presented.

Another strong episode.
I like how you can kind of see the storm clouds gathering around Viserys. Seems like a decent enough guy, but Daemon is right that he seems like kind of a shitty, ineffectual King. Too slow to act, too ignorant of the real danger facing him, and too easily led around by people with kind things to say.
Daemon himself is also showing some of that Jamie Lannister characterization of initially seeming like a huge piece of shit, but he's got depths they haven't gotten to yet.

This is really good. Feels like clasdic GoT where even when not much is happening, it still hooks you because of the intrigue.
Otto is looking like a subtlty manipulative git. Way more subtle than Littlefinger who just screamed "untrustworthy weasel"
I like how Daemon isnt exactly an evil guy. He's a bit of a prick, but he does seem to love his family (stopping the king being insulted, giving up the egg to his niece etc) and does have some valid points

Otto's interesting as his manipulation might actually be trying to do the best for the king and his daughter not just himself. Maybe the realm too.
The king avoids marrying a child, inbreeding, gets heirs quicker and perhaps most importantly stops the seasnake's grab for power.
Away from the queen aspect his daughter marries a decent guy and stays around her friends and family, doesn't end up married to a Ramsay like unknown for the sake of an alliance.
The knight choosing scene was framed as Rhaenyra rising above the scheming men but I have a feeling she'll wish she followed his advice one day.
Also went to to face Daemon himself despite the risk. All his actions also have to be framed by being hand to a weak king too, can't be easy. Same seems to apply to Daemon from a different angle, I think the whole thing is likely to be about the effect a weaker king has on those around him.
I say weak due to the standards of that world but really just a decent guy not really cut out for the job. He just want to build models in his shed.

That'll be fun to read the commentary about. Eh the only really interesting ones are the first and last ones. In regards to the first, Daemon Blackfyre is half Targaryen and half other Targaryen so he's not mixed. And Bittersteel is half Targaryen half Bracken so he isn't either. Neither were Daemon's first 2 sons who led the second and third rebellions. Daemon 3, eh probably be is and Maelys, who cares? MFer has 2 heads

So the whole Blackfyre rebellion rests on a shaky name for real world commentators if we get that far down the history.

It'd be like me saying I'm native because my great grandmother was.

I'd agree, but I also feel like if they've introduced racial diversity and then 'breed it out,' even if that would be what would happen in real life, it's a fight HBO wont want

The Targaryens and Velaryons intermarried and produced children a lot over the history of the Targaryen dynasty. They were two of the only pureblood Valyrian families to survive the Doom of Valyria (there might've been a couple of others) that hadn't become their own nationality like the Free Cities peoples. And Blackfyre is the name of Aegon the Conqueror's sword that Daemon Waters chose for his new surname.
There is absolutely no racial narrative with the Blackfyre Rebellions even with the Velaryons having darker skin in this show. Because many legitimate members of the Targaryen family, including heirs to the throne, have that same Velaryon lineage. Daemon was a bastard and pretender to the throne because his father Aegon IV was a horndog. That's it.

But now, I think real world commentators are going to make this a thing. Tbh, it could add a really interesting dynamic to the story, or it could be ignored completely 'in universe,' but modern social commentators and reports are going to love it if it gets that far.

Yeah, let's be honest, bad faith actors are already frantically typing up the scripts for their YouTube rants and looking forward to how they spend the ad revenue those videos will bring in.
