To be fair everyone wanted to kill him haha. I love they sprinkled in Maegor references there. I wondered how they would've portrayed him on screen The parts of Westeros history I thought could make for the most interesting TV shows were Aegon's Conquest, the Dance of the Dragons, and the adventures of Dunk and Egg. And since we got the second, I think a miniseries or a longer limited run series about Maegor could be interesting. Especially since he could be a villain that makes Joffrey Baratheon look nice by comparison. I think the Blackfyre Rebellion could also work pretty well, though that may be a little too close thematically to the Dance of the Dragons.

Just so I understand, this does have an ending already, right? I'm not interested in them having to get George out of the strip club in order to get him to finish this one as well. Yeah, the story's already been finished. It's been covered in Dangerous Women, The World of Ice and Fire and then emphatically fleshed out as pretty much the second half of Fire and Blood. There's very much a conclusion already written.

I guess we can put to bed the assertion that the last two seasons of GoT ended public interest in the franchise.

I enjoyed the first episode, it felt both new and familiar at the same time. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of this, they've made a good start. The birth scene was brutal in the best way. They didn't go over the top with showing too much or making it too gory, which allowed you to focus on the actual emotion going on there.
I do have the issue of expecting Matt Smith to break out into a Doctor style monologue at any moment, though.

Good first episode.
Matt Smith was great. Daemon is already my favorite. I also find Otto Hightower interesting.

Dialogue heavy but another really good episode {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Corlys trying sell off his 12yr old daughter major nasty Rhaenys may be acting like an old bitch but she is telling Rhaenyra what she needs to hear Already didn't like Otto and don't like him more now. "Middle Finger" will start catching on for his name. I want to say poor Alicent but she sort of have that Margaery cunning to her but not as vindictive. She is somewhat playing both sides and now that friendship is tarnished

Yep, the show has been really solid, so far. And before anyone gets too creeped out about the scene with the 12 year old, they would've waited until she was… 14. Damn it, George!

GRRM: How I can make this less creepy to make the 15 year old seem like the right choice. Ahhh yes, let’s throw a 12 year old in the equation

I got absolute chills hearing the main got theme and the Targaryen theme again. Great first episode I would be very surprised if the intro hasn't already been compared to the end credits for JJBA Phantom Blood. Also I didn't realize how glad I was to hear that theme again. Them keeping the GoT theme does make me think even more that this is HBO honestly trying to make amends for how lousily GoT ended. They've certainly been on-point so far. And yeah, the age gap arranged marriage thing is still gross, but ugh, it's not like it isn't historically inaccurate for the analogous time periods. They're doing a very good job of making it not super obvious about who we're supposed to be rooting for, at least past Daemon being Littlefinger levels of shamelessly evil so far. Not that that's a bad thing, what is it about ex-Doctor actors playing such satisfying villains?

Your first point was actually one of the reasons I found Game of Thrones hard to get into in the beginning. While it obviously set up the Starks as the clear protagonists and the Lannisters as antagonists, I felt there was a little too many shades of grey going on with everybody else. While I've generally enjoyed the first two episodes of this, I find the Targaryens the least interesting of the great houses and I'm not sure if I'll stick it out or just wait for the whole show to finish it's run before I give it another go.

While it obviously set up the Starks as the clear protagonists and the Lannisters as antagonists, I felt there was a little too many shades of grey going on with everybody else. Fair point. I didn't get into the original series until well after the Red Wedding when the alliances were a bit more cut and dry, but I can definitely see how, to someone going in blind with no knowledge of the books, there would be waaaay too many factions to keep track of at the start of GoT, and that's just with the major houses, let alone when you start adding the minor houses or factions like the Dothraki. I think what should help this series in that regards, is that the intrigue is scaled down to be a bit more on the individual level (which obviously makes sense considering we know the Targaryen civil war is where this is headed) so there's a lot less needing a flow chart to keep track of alignments. And yeah, the Targaryens regardless of time period do tend to tread a very fine line of coming off as "they're cool because GRRM said they're cool" versus "GRRM wanted to include elves without actually having elves" versus flat-out feeling like a Gary Stu faction (though at least that's acknowledged in-universe with how flagrantly OP the dragons are versus everything else in the setting, season 8 nonwithstanding). Granted, we pretty much had Daenerys and a season of Viserys to go off of before, plus or minus some kingly insanity flashbacks, so I'm willing to see how this plays out based on the strength of the casting alone.

I really want to get in to this, as I enjoyed the book it was based on but I just cannot stand Matt Smith.
He is just so one note. He has two looks (emotionless or crocked smile), two voices (emotionless or screaming) and just comes across as petulant whenever he tries to 'act' anything.
He just sucks.

OH BOY this episode wasn't action heavy, but holy crap it was drIIIIIping with intrigue and choices ... obviously the best one was who is gonna be westeroses next queen, alicent was a right picture as viserys LOOKED at her before saying her name! knowing how independent rhaenyra is that must have fed into the kings decision, and her getting the model dragon repaired was a beautiful touch, but she didn't realise what she was getting into ... and that set the pigeons amongst the dragons which brings onto the face-off on dragonstone wow the photography of the place was exceptional, and did you see how caraxes looked at rhaenyra and syrax? rhaenyra is the smart cookie though, knowing full well daemon was never going to hurt her, literally cementing her stance to her uncle AND her father and good for the writers to move six months on as viserys finally transitions back to ruler AND KING! oh but there is mysaria stomping her little feet TICKING TIME BOMB DAMMIT!!! brothers AND sons eh? and i'm liking how they're dripping info on valyria too AND using the GoT theme as well, with that title sequence, i liked the simplicity of episode ones "lost" titles ... blood ruins EVERYTHING though!!! get's on your clothes your dragon your swords!!! anyone up for a game of pass the dragon egg?

“I will speak of my brother as I wish. You will not.”
Love the characterization of the relationship between Viserys and Daemon
Really the whole cast is just knocking it out of the park for me.
