I don’t think the turn tonight made any sense. Why wouldn’t Cole want the Bucks & Fish to win the trios titles? Unless he didn’t want anyone to win them other than himself. And in doing so may have handed the belts to the Bucks & Hangman. Think this pretty much confirms Omega is out for longer and won’t be teaming with The Bucks in his tournament. It really feels like a step got skipped. Like, we needed just one week of the Bucks snubbing Fish out of the trios tournament spot with them. It's one of those AEW Things where the pieces of the puzzle are there, but they weren't put together. The Bucks haven't been cozy with Fish, but the story kind of needed to make clear that they are sufficiently uncozy with him to pass on him even when it clearly benefits them. Unless Cole thought the Bucks were going to choose Hangman over Fish and decided to take action before it happened. But yeah could have done with a couple more weeks build to make more sense of it.

This at least gives something new for Hangman to do and I think him being with face Bucks will give him more attention and a better reaction
My way of fixing the story would be to not have Cole and them on TV every week with Cole cutting a very similar promo over and over. Sucks that it took him getting injured to achieve this...
I cant see myself interested in anything Cole does, but the live crowd seems to love him, so 🤷

It's very simple and seems like it would have gotten old for more people ages ago, but the right performer can keep it strong, I guess.

Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly have been linked forever. The strange thing is that only the UE/NXT part is being played up. Hopefully and especially since TK now owns ROH- they can talk about all of the history (good and bad) between all of them.
While in understand that Cole has had a ton of exposure, he is one of the better working heels around and tends to be way over with live crowds. I can watch him every week.

I'm not interested in this Trios division at all.
There's way too many factions and multi man matches in AEW.
I get the crowd are hot for them sometimes but I can't help but feel the casual viewer might be burned out from all of them.
It seems like everybody's in a stable of some sort in AEW. Even CM Punk is hanging around with FTR now.

The fact that the Young Bucks, who have been huge obnoxious narcissist douchebags, apparently just turned face by simply being associated with Page instead of Fish, kinda sums up the problem. What's supposed to pass for storyline development is just a return to the status quo, and they clearly think it's hugely crowd-pleasing for The Band To Be Back Together to play all their old hits, and no one's character needs to change much. Maybe for some people this is true, but I sure as hell got very tired of all this long ago.
(Meanwhile, just for contrast, Bryan Danielson's trios team is probably going to contain a guy who was fairly recently called goddamn SYLVERHAWK, because he's desperately trying and succeeding to get young, underbooked members of the roster over, and words can't describe how much more I care about the BCC than the Elite.)

I'm in the same boat for this. I really felt like Page cutting the Bucks out of his life was a good thing to begin with, and even with the Bucks' awesome bit backing Page in his title win, it feels like it would be more satisfying for him to move on without them. Like...with the way the story's been done on TV, this is less Page getting back together with estranged friends, and more Page returning to an unhealthy environment that he was right to leave.

carp (SPC, Itoh Respect Army) also makes a really good point about the return to the status quo as contrasted with the BCC and JAS and other stuff happening in AEW right now: the Elite have been treated as this closed circle. Elite membership is 100% rigidly defined by pre-existing ties. The original group were all together in NJPW before, the UE were, well, the UE in NXT and were already associated with one another before that in ROH. They even have a "young boy" who's a parody of the concept, a balding indy vet who's there because he's been friends with the Bucks for years. It's not like the angle would be improved by the Elite recruiting Lee Johnson or whatever, but the determination to build to an Elite vs. UE six-man has made every wrestler involved feel a little bit like a relic.
