If Athena doesn't win, she'll become just another person on the roster I'd argue she already is. They don't even really put up much of a pretense that she's important. Sometimes she's on TV, sometimes she's not, and even when she is she's just there. I don't think she's even had a vignette as well as she's been on the receiving end of multiple beatdowns

Idk about that If you win and get a beatdown after you lose your heat In that context yes, I was talking about the feud ender, which normally doesn't result in any aftermath heat it's just a triumph. That's what I hope this will be

I really doubt Athena's winning. Knowing Tony's track record it's a lot more likely Jade just holds the belt for another eight months until they can do the initial plan because the man doesn't adjust.

My biggest problem is that Athena does not feel special at all She needs to beat Jade to not fall into the territory Ruby and Storm found themselves in but if Jade wins it almost becomes a point it doesn't matter who beats her unless they become really hot

My biggest fear is that Red Velvet returns at All Out to help Jade retain(Velvet was already spotted backstage last week) and its going to be like Britt/Rosa in terms of fan reaction...

If they do that, they put themselves in a big hole which basically limits them to Britt Baker fighting Jade at some point

If Athena falls short, free agents and women whose contracts are coming ask will be asking "When the f*** do we get a chance to shine, and get some spotlight?"

Yeah, I think that is also a fallout as well. WWE releasing some good name talent allowed TK to get them without much problem. Now, he still has to fight with Impact but also WWE again to sign them and if women see they aren't getting treated as a priority in AEW than they probably will move on elsewhere as you can't rule out some your own women doing the same Assuming Sasha goes back to WWE, I wonder if he did land her would he had thrown all his plans out the window for her. In theory, she is the person you do it for and some feeling will be hurt over stalled pushes but he's had Athena, Ruby and Storm come in with hype and they have just become part of the roster.

Yeah, if building up the women's division is at all a priority for Tony Khan, he can't take "it'll all work out" for granted anymore. Vince McMahon and Johnny Ace are gone. The WWE divisions are no longer gradually reverting back to the Divas era of the late 00's and early 10's.

But at least it would been for secondary title and for Jade that's a bigger rub then still going on to beat "nobodies" and have no real development

That sit down interview between Athena and Jade on Rampage was the best bit of the whole feud so far. Loved the fire Athena brought and Jade brought the dominating champ swagger that in retrospect can be hubris.
If they can follow it up with a good match and title change on Sunday they should have a great moment and a strong finish to this meandering feud.

It would be extremely on brand for the past year of AEW if Athena, a talent I know from only WWE and was never a fan of, ended up being the one who came in to beat an AEW original for the belt
This is such a huge rub to give someone, the first one Jade will ever give anyone
And you're going to piss it away on gladiator werewolf magic inner rage smiling flipping babyface, Asuka's chew toy

Statlander was gonna be the one, but her injury opened the door for Athena. And what's wrong with Athena doing it? She got a raw deal on the main roster in WWE.

Athena was on the indies for years and generating buzz before WWE got to her, and she was one of the more hyped American women to get signed off of that. I don't think writing her off as being an ex-WWE wrestler like she's coming in TNA style is totally fair. Because you don't like her, sure, that's a personal call. But she's more than just a WWE cast-off.
