Because of the long Brock and Roman title reigns?
Some have said those title reigns were boring and just dragged on, but at least they were full timers always on the shows.
Brock was a pure part-timer Universal reign at 504 days and Roman turned into a part-timer during this current title reign.
Would you rather take the two part timer title reigns or the Punk and Styles one year title reigns today?

I think all long reigns look worse now than they did at the time, because they happen a lot more now.

No. Punk would lost the title beforehand if not for wanting to make The Rock win a bigger moment and I still contend that even tho he is a shit head, Ryback was white hot and should have at least been given a one month title reign
Styles problem was that his feuds were all the same in he gets angry, DQ'd and he could lost his title to each opponent. I don't think it was a bad reign, but it was rinse and repeat
So to answer the question, I only take the Punk/AJ type reign only because of Brock factor. Roman was around the first 90% of his reign. Brock was gone months at a time

Punk's, I dunno, it's been too long for me to really recall.
AJ's, though, sadly no. He still really should have lost the title to Nakamura to make the Shinsuke heel turn work. Not like he couldn't have lost it back to AJ in a month or two, anyway, it'd have still done a lot to make that reign more interesting.

The Punk reign has aged like milk. I can’t believe that some people still prop it up as some all time amazing run of fantastic matches, promos and programs.
When he wasn’t against Cena, shit was middddddd

Both reigns were fantastic. Yeah it sucked Punk was upstaged by Cena main eventing PPV's and also it ending to The Rock, but it was great.
I don't think it's got better with age, it was awesome while it was happening.

I don't think long title reigns are bad per se, but in the 21st century, they run into problems when:
- The champion is a heel, or is basically received by the majority of fans as a heel, and therefore doesn't get much comeuppance (John Cena) - The champion is a heel, and TV and PPVs end constantly with misery booking (Roman Reigns) - There are not a lot of title defenses on TV or PPV (Brock Lesnar) - Title defenses are not that great or do not live up to the hype (AJ Styles?) - The champion is just keeping the belt warm and killing time until a big match happens (CM Punk) - The champion is not the main character or focus of the promotion (CM Punk)
Between all these negatives, there has to be a positive scenario that exists that would satisfy most fans and would actually be exciting to watch.

When he wasn’t against Cena, shit was middddddd And what worked in Punk favor at the time was the fact the title had been moved around a lot beforehand with the longest reign since 2008 in regards to the world titles in WWE was The Miz 160 day title reign. There was a lot of short title reigns so him holding the title over a year felt "special"

When he wasn’t against Cena, shit was middddddd There is def some rose tinted glasses for that run lol. All I remember is the meh Ziggler feud, the bad Danielson feud, the dogshit Jericho feud and limp Mania match, the weird AJ Lee love triangle thingy, and the second half of his reign where he turned heel and it didn't suck as much. More bad than good for sure

More bad than good for sure I thought the heel turn spiced things up because Punk is obviously better as a heel and he got to reignite the Cena feud so the matches were atleast good. Problem was that it happened like more than half way through the run lol

I don't think hindsight does the runs any favours because the whole overlong top title run in WWE thing is just sort of a drag and the fact they keep banging on it for credibility only makes the cumulative weight of all those runs worse. It's just mega tiring.

I enjoyed Punk's title run but I didn't like when he turned heel. The crowds didn't want to boo him so he had to resort to insulting them. The only time I found it interesting was when he acted paranoid the night after he lost it to The Rock.

Styles problem was that his feuds were all the same in he gets angry, DQ'd and he could lost his title to each opponent. I don't think it was a bad reign, but it was rinse and repeat WWE was doing this a lot during that time. Remember the record breaking tag title reign of the New Day? They'd lose a non title match, then have a rematch for the titles, in which they'd lose by DQ, then inevitably win the third match. They did that several times...just the absolute laziest booking.

I still think Punk's was pretty damn good, up until his heel turn. AJ's started to get boring, IMO, around the time he started feuding with Kami, and that was like only two months in. He should've lost it to Nakamura at WM or Backlash.

Punk should have lost to Ryback. Flat out. Clean as a f***ing sheet. Ryback was stupid over It wouldn't have hurt to put the title on him the 3-6 weeks Punk was out and have him get back the title but they needed to keep Punk with the title for the record

I still love Punk's reign and think the heel turn added some fresh life to it. AJ's was just never ending and lifeless.

Like... the hard cam shook when he came out. He should have beat Punk got a month or two as champ, and then history resumes.

When he wasn’t against Cena, shit was middddddd Indeed, that long ass reign stopped me caring about Punk as it just felt forced and boring. Meanwhile, there were others who really could have done with decent pushes.
