“The Wrestler” is way better as a movie. Different themes though; Wrestler’s about that aging aspect. Iron claw feels more about restraint. “Masculinity” in a bygone era. WTF was with the Ric flair?! My thought was they told him “Do an impression of Jim Carey doing an impression of Ric Flair”. Is it bad that now I wanna see Jim Carrey portray Ric?

Saw it last night, and really enjoyed it. Great acting, cinematography, and emotional weight, the ahistorical parts, exclusion of Chris, and really unconvincing Flair portrayal notwithstanding.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in being confused about that Ric Flair. I've seen a lot of Flair imitations over the years, and any one of them is better than that lol

But..everyone knows what Ric flairs like, this was like the dude watched three minutes of him and gave it a shot. Took us right out. And MJF, being executive producer, he himself comes off like flair sometimes in promos when he gets heated. I thought, why not just have him do it? Maybe because it could have taken people out of it but it did regardless sooo…I dunno.

I think the Flair portrayal stands out because so many of the other casting choices were perfectly believable. The Von Erichs themselves, Harley Race, the Freebirds, and Bruiser Brody? Yeah, I could suspend my disbelief and see them. But that Flair casting…

Us Brits are going to have to wait til February for this unfortunately. Don’t worry, this will have DVD screener quality pirate copies of this online probably the first week. Why are staggered release dates still a thing when they’ve been proven to be one of the biggest drivers of movie piracy? Especially now, when high quality pirate copies are dropping way quicker then in the past I don't remember how I got this impression, but I've long thought it was to allow the studio to make last minute changes after initial release to it may fare better overseas.

Thought it was ok. Probably would have worked better as a miniseries. Ric Flair got laffed out of the theater I was in. The reveal of the result of Kerry’s motorcycle accident drew a lot of gasps from the crowd.

Haven't seen it yet but I looked the Flair thing up and this quote from the director is very funny vs. the reaction here on the casting

Watched it with non wrestling fans and I laughed in the theater when I noticed MJF's cameo and my friend gave me such a weird look, lol

The Von Erichs curse seemed as though for every triumph there was, there was two tragedies that would follow.

Just saw it - fantastic. Cried several times even though I knew what was coming. Most of the casting was fantastic. The actors who played Fritz and Mike in particular were incredible. And yeah, the Flair role stands out. Although I will say, he was reasonably fine in the locker room scene. But they should have either rewritten the promo or just had him do it a few more times.

Pretty much mirrored my thoughts exactly. Although, I’d also like to add in Zac Efron was phenomenal, if not too big to be Kevin. I thought the way he carried the growth of the sadness in him throughout the movie was amazing. I’ve never see the guy who played Mike, but I’d be all for him getting an Oscar nod for Supporting Actor.

Agreed across the board the acting was good except for the bit everyone’s talking about

Can’t believe I saw that Flair clip on Christmas Day
Cheers Efron. I don’t mean to come across as hyperbolic but the kids are crying and Christmas is ruined

The portrayal of Harley Race almost makes up for the portrayal of Flair. That guy had Race's look and speaking style pretty close.

Haven’t seen the movie yet, but after the last page or so, I had to go look up the Ric Flair scene.
…does anyone remember Chick Donovan? It was like him trying to be Ric Flair.

I’m not sure there’s ever been a person who physically had to play a certain character in a movie as much as that guy did. The person I saw it with thought it might’ve been a made up person, so I broke out the phone after to show that Harley Race was very similar lol
