I figured this should be separate from the other Punk thread given that's more about backstage stuff and it might just clutter it making it be about the match that may or may not be connected in how it went down.
I kind of have complicated feelings on it. In isolation I like it, it's certainly different (last thing really even comparable I can think of is Cena / Lesnar) and there's a lot of room for future storytelling coming out of it, but I think more than anything if it was about Punk still being hurt it just goes to demonstrate why the interim title thing was a stupid idea and why doing it again with Rosa on the same show is unfathomably dumb. And really if it was entirely a storyline decision then it just makes me wonder what the hell we're doing with the belt at All Out.
Do think either way it's probably going to end up largely being looked at as stupid in the long run though. Seems like pretty far and wide the reaction to it has been very negative and I'd be shocked if viewership didn't plummet afterward.

This is clearly why it happened.

I don't know how I feel about it. I wouldn't say I'm bummed about everything but I was absolutely confused. It wasn't deflating like Hangman and Dark Order losing to the Elite last summer (which knowing backstory I get) but I wouldn't say I liked it?
Makes me curious.

I wasn’t a fan of it because it’s a match I really wanted to see and there was nothing to it. If it’s a necessity because he’s still hurt, that’s fine I guess. But it was still a letdown.

I don't think Punk was on board with that at all. His hop off the top rope before the match looked like it was him showing he was fine, and the angle during the match was BS. It's something Shawn Michaels would have done in the 90's, like his moonsault off the top rope after he "injured" his knee.
And if it's all a work, it's too much. Between MJF, Omega, and this, it's too many worked shoots.

If Punk's recovery is complicated and way outside of anything that they thought it could have been, I don't think that just inherently damns the whole concept of an interim title.

The thing about a sudden injury is you can do that, and be absolutely fine, but when you torque your foot, in kayfabe, you essentially could sprain a tendon or worse if it wasn't fully healed Punk agreed to it reportedly, and he sold the f*** out of it

I've said this for years: not every title or main event match needs to be 20 or so minutes. Or even 10 in some cases. It's not realistic at all. Sometimes guys get caught in fights or have a terrible night.

Sometimes guys get caught in fights or have a terrible night. Honestly, from the jump, from Moxley’s entrance, there was a huge sense of urgency. I loved it. It had a UFC-this-can-end-at-any-time feel. I absolutely agree with the sentiment that (not every) particular matches should feel that way.

It really does kind of seal that Punk is, at least in kayfabe, the biggest dumbass in the company.
It wasn't like he came back to show he had heart and gumption or anything. Kayfabe Punk came back because he was fragile about Moxley getting the attention, then rushed into a match he wasn't ready for because his ego told him that he was the most special boy in the world and would totally win. Like, every part of this from a kayfabe perspective is funny to me.

Well it was an unpredictable match at least.
I enjoyed it since it since in real life you'll have hyped up fights with anticlimactic endings so this makes it feel like anything can happen
I can only assume Punk was still hurt so they did this
The post match stuff with Punk whispering to the guy helping him out made it seem like they're setting something up

If Punk's foot is legitimately not ready for a proper match yet, then he shouldn't have come back until it was. If it's pure storyline that his foot is still weak, then it all depends on where they go next. I don't think I can say if this was a good decision or a bad one until I know where the story is going. What will happen at All Out and what's happening with Punk? I can see this being the start of a full heel turn for Punk and if that's the case, I'm on board with it.

I liked the finish and I prefer it over some weird DQ f***ery. I thought in Kayfabe it was a great way to leave so much open for Punk while legitimizing Jon as a two time champion in brutal fashion
Idk what main events All Out now, but they did a good job given a situation where I assume CM Punk needs to be out longer than they expected
