Mox would have to put more than just the title on the line for it to make sense. Otherwise, why, if Punk, are you _losing on purpose_ when you already had the belt? I def don't think you can go the lost on purpose route It would just have to be Punk being desperate and Mox coming off a major victory and in his bag thinking f*** it, I beat you once and I can do it again. Punk talked shit and got humbled so he can ask Mox for a rematch and says if he can't beat him then I have no career. Mox accepts and Punk does something to cheat to get his W back like put a piece of lead in his kick pad or something. If you want to go for shock value, you can have Mox squash Punk again but doing that back to back might not be best He'd absolutely have to cheat. Trying to sell him as having re-aggravated his injury, only to be 100% healthy a week and a half later is a bridge too far.

And it could work as long as it's played off as a spur-of-the-moment thing instead of a "Long-term, expert manipulator's Master Plan" thing. As in, don't even bring up the Hangman stuff even when he gloats about putting Moxley down in Chicago.

I think Punk offers not to retire but leave AEW to goad Moxley, that would work. First, it would be a good motivation for Moxley as he's friends with Kingston and has no problem with Page both of who have alluded to Punk being locker room cancer. Second, it gives the fans the ability to believe Punk might lose, we know he won't retire as he's on a 3-year contract but given his links to ROH a departure from AEW would not be out of the question.

I watched the match yesterday having seen a bit of this thread. I think the way they handled works. If they want to keep Punk face, he can come back later and overcome the injury that sidelined him and ultimately cost him his title. If they want to turn him heel he can be bitter at what happened in the match and claim he was forced into returning early despite not being ready, etc. This way too, CM Punk has a reason for going down while Moxley gets to look like a destroyer. I know nothing of the backstage stuff in AEW but I can see why this seemed like the best option for the match in the short term.

Until they announce Moxley vs. Punk at the PPV, I can't personally hold a hypothetical PPV rematch against this. I loved what they did and hope that they don't immediately rehash things. Punk deserved every bit of that ass whooping.

I absolutely did not know that lol. Thought the details of his contract were still hush-hush. So, two more years of Punk huh?

The beautiful thing about the match itself was how, for once, CM Punk's mouth wrote a check his ass couldn't cash, and once he came to and realized what had happened as he was being helped away from the ring, he knew it.
This is a great chance to play up that CM Punk now realizes that his wrestling life is finite; he left for years, came back, everything was hunky dory, but now his body is betraying him and the thought he could lose so easily because of a reaggravated injury and an opponent like Mox being aggressive enough to immediately pounce on his weakness has to terrify him.
What does that lead to? Guess we'll see.

This better end with the Macho Man / Liz ending but it’s Punk and Colt.
That’s what their setting up right?

Mox working heel for the match is going to be great.

I kind of think it would be more interesting if the thing he was most afraid of wasn't losing the ability to wrestle, but losing the influence and the hold he has over others as his body betrays him. Of his mythical aura fading and falling back down to earth with everyone else.

I'm not sure how the match is gonna end, but I'm gonna be totally surprised if MJF and the winner locking eyes on one another isn't the ending shot of the PPV...

I am sure I will enjoy the match on Sunday
Many elements of this build were great
But you aren't going to convince me this was a good build
I have no idea why they did it this way or what it achieved

I am sure I will enjoy the match on Sunday Many elements of this build were great But you aren't going to convince me this was a good build I have no idea why they did it this way or what it achieved This is 100% how I feel. The unpredictability factor is fine. But I don't think that a feud between Punk and Mox needed it. It feels very overthought, and overdone for the sake of doing it. I still maintain that if you just had three weeks of promos from both Mox and Punk, ramping up each week, until this past Dynamite was a final face to face blowoff/contract signing it would have done gangbusters in terms of hype, anticipation, and numbers. Just let them spit venom at each other. That's the biggest selling point of them, their personalities. Let them clash with each other. That would have sold the show much better than what they've done. 2 good talkers who have no filter going to war on each other on the mic, that's ALL you needed. The fact that neither man were face to face or in the ring at the same time on the final main show before the PPV just feels weird. Like they took turns, Mox, then Punk, then Mox again. Why not have Punk come back out? Their personalities are more than enough to sell the program. It feels like they're on separate islands going into the show. What we got feels overcomplicated, like what we would have gotten in WWE if Vince had to book Punk vs. Moxley. Wait no, the PPV main event would somehow be HHH vs Kevin Nash. Nevermind

My god, Kevin Nash on Dynamite would be just what the doctor ordered. He’d be the biggest troll.

CM Punk is far and away AEWs biggest star..he is not turning heel. He is going to fight valiantly in his hometown and win the belt clean...
That's the story, to much overthinking going on.

Yeh it feels like they just took the belt off him so he redo his championship reign complete with hometown winning the belt Like when Naomi won the belt at elimination chamber, then got injured and then won the belt back at Wrestelmania in Orlando
