The usual suspects are also zeroing in on Punk not selling the foot that he kicked with and instead sold the one that he planted. That is the one that was already injured. Which he put all of his weight on when he planted. Oh gee, I wonder why nobody takes EDrone complaints seriously. I find this so baffling. Anybody with even a basic understanding of human anatomy should know the foot taking the weight of his body is the one more likely to be injured. It happens for real all the time that people plant a leg the wrong way and end up injured.

Moxley is essentially the final boss in the US everywhere he goes now. Punk talked shit and ignored that post WWE only Kenny has even pinned him here (Archer beat him in a Texas Death Match but not a pin) and Moxley beat the shit out of an unready him. It's basically a shorter Cena/Brock deconstruction thing, I have no qualms as long as they can use this to fuel Punk when he's really ready.
Deeply confused as to where the title match at All Out goes since they have one Dynamite to book it on, though. MJF is absolutely not happening with 4 days of warning, though.

I don't wanna get all hyperbolic "OMG FINGERPOKE OF DOOM!" levels here. I want to remain objective. So I'll say that yes the diehards can defend this until they're blue in the face with the "I'm just making a counter point" (that's stretching it quite a bit) buuuuuuuut there was a better way to book this entire scenario no matter what's happening behind the scenes. This just shows to me once again that TK is absolutely awful at Plan B's usually. Some alternatives: Punk's still injured. Strip him of the title, and make Mox THE champion. Punk then has a LOT of fuel to a fire when he comes back and would give us an amazing program for the title with Punk saying "I never lost", and Mox could be all "you were too chickenshit to try" or some edgelord stuff, and the build writes itself. Don't want to strip him of the title, fine, let Mox remain Interim champ. Have him defend at All Out. Have Punk come back in..say...November, and boom you can have the promo we had last week on the return Dynamite on the road to a proper build and feud. Advertise a special "in-ring promo" with Punk at the All Out PPV to at least give the Chicago fans something. Punk can say when he's better the pretender to his throne will be taken out. Mox ofc will take offense to that. Boom. You have the embers laid for the fire to be built later. Don't want to do either of those, okay, still build to All Out between the two. Make it a street fight. Mox likes to bleed, a lot, so let the violence sell the match where the wrestling can't. "But Punk can't do that" okay then see my just now off the top of my head booking ideas above. My point is are dozens and dozens of ways TK could have handled and booked around this, he chose to go with worst one in my opinion. Literally any other option would have been better. But going about it this way opens up a lot of possibilities that wouldn't have worked with the other choices I'm not being a diehard here either, I'm just coming with why I think this was a good move, the points I'd lay out are 1. Punk's ego gets the better of him. He comes back, all cocky, and then once he actually has to wrestle, his foots not ready, and it costs him everything. After all the promos, taking shots at others, and the like, his body in fact can't write the check his mouth was trying to cash 2. Mox is no longer "interim". Peeps hated that anyway, and he's had a great run so far. Legitimize it, and let him go until Punk's really ready 3. Punk losing the belt in this fashion can allow him to go heel. The crowd cheering Moxley and celebrating his win while he looks around heartbroken, is a good way if they really wanted to, for Punk to turn jaded, for coming back early for the fans as he said, they cheered Moxley even after it was clear Punk got hurt. You couldn't do this in Chicago, where Punk is god. Doing it in Ohio however? You get the reaction you want. 4. You set up the rematch perfectly. Punk loses because he's hurt, Mox takes advantage and destroys him. You didn't really do the Punk/Mox match, now Punk can heal up with no commitment, and Moxley can do his thing, and when you come back to this, it's a whole new ballgame, with a potentially heel Punk vs Moxley. I get why some people just aren't fans of this move, but given everything they had to work with, I don't see how this is "The worst option", could there be better ones? Sure, but I also think what they did could prove to be a better outcome than the other options listed, and I hope they pull it off. All good points you bring up, to be honest. I think it was either a case of 'don't do the match' or 'do it this way'. Whilst it might not look great right now it is the perfect set up for a CM Punk heel turn. I especially like the idea of a cocky CM Punk realising IN the match that actually he is not in any condition to fight, and he just got destroyed because it. It alludes to his first UFC fight, too. Not sure if that is something Punk wants brought up, but in this current 'work-shoot' heavy style of booking, I can see that being mentioned.

If they'd deliberately booked it this way I'd be pretty pissed off but if Punk is injured, I'm happy with how this was booked. Particularly as they clearly set the seeds for something with Punk at the end.

Very meh from me, I expected an angle out of the finish but thought there might be a decent match to get there after all the hype.

The way I saw it was Punk has always said he likes to feel justified in his heel turns, "Yes I'm the bad guy but here are my gripes and that's why I'm currently an asshole" I assumed this was all a motivation for Punk to return as a heel.

I assume (if he’s not actually injured too badly) we are getting a Punk heel turn out of this so I am fine with it.
Will add that Mox is an absolute star and deserves to be the top guy.

If anyone was going to be the first 2x champion, Moxley was a deserving choice. Though, if Hangman had done the honors, that would have maybe been even funnier.

It helps that I also love Mox. Not even knocking his talent or wishing any harm or injury on Brooks the person. But man, his character is so self-serious. He might be more over now that he's been deflated some.

When he returns the options are:
Face Punk: "I was humbled, I will do my best to start from the bottom and win the fan's respect back by correcting my humiliation and winning my title back." Bianca style.
Heel Punk: "I wasn't ready! Moxley goaded me into that match because he knows he can't beat me at my best! Well I have a few surprises for him..." reveals a stable of Dark guys to do interference running for him and MJF as his no 2 (eventual Batista who will dethrone the Mad King).
Which do you prefer?

I liked how unpredictable it was and it didn't seem at all like a "Fingerpoke of Doom" scenario. It's not like Punk jumped up and hugged Jon while laughing and pointing at the audience.
I'm glad that not every World title match is 30-60 minutes as sometimes a competitor can return too soon from an injury and get caught slipping within a few minutes.

For all the hype it undelivered big time
So either Punk is still injured and they wanted to do the change away from Chicago (and potential riots) or he’s unhappy and they giving him a break
Makes the Hangman shit really weird. I assume this is vehicle for a Punk heel turn since he got humbled but I can’t say I’m really interested in the scenarios at the moment.
I’m kinda over Mox as champ too so hopefully the title switches soon

Calling this the Fingerpoke of Doom isn't only misunderstanding what made people hate the Fingerpoke of Doom, where the storyline of the NWO taking the fans for a ride made the fans feels taken for a ride by the company, but it's also playing into that 'WCW's demise is just a highlight reel of bad stuff' narrative WWE spent years pushing.

I like to imagine that Hangman was planning to do a run in to screw over Punk but the match ended too quickly for him to do it.
Also LOL @ the l match being up on their YT

Ultimately if you want to do that match it had to be on TV. Doing it in Chicago turns Moxley and kills the territory

A TV show had something unexpected happen that made complete sense and can have different storylines come from it in the future
WORST. THING. EVER.
