Was being the Elite actually any good Quality has always come in waves but it’s a huge reason for the elite’s following and what helped lead to the creation of aew. Gif unrelated - You know what? Forget Punk. Let's talk about Big Daddy V instead. Believable monster. Had a different look while still looking intimidating as hell. Calling All Cars f***ing slaps as a theme. No one ever had anything negative to say about Nelson Frazier to my knowledge, either.

Yes. The fact that we are now talking about Big Daddy V's theme now is a true Hallmark in the greatness of Fan Forums. Went from' "Punk said what about who? Hold on Omega got bit?!" to "You know who had a dope theme? Viscera."

Yeah cause he f***ing nearly broke his back jumping on him during Summerslam 1995 and also broke Taker's orbital bone, if I remember correctly. Yep. He was too young and undisciplined for the push, whereas WWF was hurting for new blood in the main event, so they were tolerating a lot from him and being too hasty with the push. I think he was letting his nerves get the better of him, too, since I don't really remember hearing of any of this kind of recklessness in his subsequent WWF tenures. Had they sent him to Memphis for even just a few months, they probably could have repackaged him and handled it that way.

If I can be serious for a minute... Is the unparalleled success of this thread and the heavy engagement in this story simply due to this being the most FUN wrestling backstage story in about 20 years? Yeah, if you're a fan of any of the wrestlers or personalities ensnared by the Ace Steel-like jaws of this drama, then you may be a little worried for their fates. If you're a hardcore fan of AEW then this is probably not what you wanted the story to be coming out of their big late summer show. But I think this ticks all the boxes for being the perfect blend of good-natured schadenfreude we've had in a LONG while. While we've had much larger stories in the past 20 years (hell, in the past MONTH), they usually have an element of sleaze, impropriety, or real-world politics that can't help but put a frown on our faces. Then there's always the "is it a work?" question, which can be a bucket of cold water poured on any good backstage disaster, but we basically worked out of our system by daybreak last Monday. So between the insanity of Punk's rant, the totemic props that have become shorthand comedic signatures, and the layers upon layers of fallout that resulted? I don't know if we'll ever see this perfect balance of innocuous intrigue and outright comedy ever again. Screenwriting classes and improv troupes will be studying this for years to come. There's definitely an element to it of "This is sillier so it's easier to joke about", but I think another is that even disagreement is really f***ing low stakes here? Aside from being easy to make fun of, "CM Punk is the face of the future" or "IF YOU BACK A DOG INTO A CORNER" as prevailing dissenting takes in this thread are even on a bad day really, really mild. Nobody is in here trying to litigate the acceptability of a situation through the lens of what the age of consent is, nobody is trying to excuse somebody's racism. Having survived the old Jim Cornette threads where it would be this circular logic moving target of racism apologetics from some people, or having gotten into deep arguments about the morality of the Saudi Arabia shows with people who haven't done anything wrong but with whom I share a simply incompatible view of the world, I've been in a lot of threads where the appropriateness of levity isn't the only real concern. 0It's just not a situation that supports it enough. None of what's happening is that important or that divisive. We needed a big target that wasn't heavy, but also one that wasn't going to really devolve into arguments about things people care a whole lot about. People can have a strong feeling about this situation and it still not be like, some kind of fundamental personal moral piece of themselves that they feel they have to continue to stand up for. I've been in big threads where a bunch of people have gotten banned. I've been in smaller threads where, inexplicably, someone managed to get banned anyway. We needed a thread this simple for pure catharsis alone. Yeah usually there's someone trying to defend the indefensible, or just deflect from it by trying to make it about the on-screen product. This is just something everyone is just happy to laugh at.

Crying wrestling fan finally got to meet MLW Superstar Tom Lawler! An aside, I'm glad that dude's doing well, he's a living legend of wrestling meme culture.

Page gives me WCW Steven Austin vibes, he is good but completely useless and yet someone is pushing him real hard while he is just not ready for it. At this point Jeff Jarret was stronger TNA champion than he was AEW champion. Hangman lost the AEW Title to Punk and hasn't got a rematch as of yet, he didn't win the Trios championship and he lost to Danielson in the latest tourney. He's not being pushed right now. "At this point Jeff Jarret was stronger TNA champion than he was AEW champion" - considering that Page hasn't had a match like the one Jeff Jarrett had with Raven in 2003, that's probably true. That's exactly how I would sum it up. And of course he never got his rematch with Punk cause whoever thought of giving Punk ringtime and a championship is delusional. Did they even do medical check on the guy before they hired him? Yes Punk is the novelty and their biggest star to date but at this point he is better of as authority figure that wrestles from time to time like Triple H did. Anyway that was missed opportunity. Paige needs to find his edge, he is good in the ring but too soft of a character. He can get there he just needs to snap. I can definitely see him in a role of loose canon Pillman, bat shit crazy cowboy. But not too crazy. He will get there and hopefully he gets there in AEW instead of WWE.

I think Nash said he was a nice guy, but people hated working with him because of how sloppy he was (at least in the Mabel days) Yeah he was infamously dangerous in the ring. He got fired after he broke Taker's face with a legdrop. Theres also the "longest line of cocaine ever" incident. Other than that though, yeah nobody ever has anything bad to say about him.
