Khan had pitched Brooks on AEW in 2018, when the two met for coffee at a Chicago Starbucks the day after Christmas. But after AEW’s debut, his friend Lou D’Angeli noticed a change: It wasn’t just that Brooks was talking about wrestling but the way he was doing it. “He was listing all the guys he wanted to work with,” D’Angeli remembers. “Not only did he find his passion but he found a way: Here’s my path, here’s who I can work with, here’s who I can help.”

“The seven years he spent getting married, adopting a miniature werewolf, writing comics, cage fighting, and starring in horror movies were all part of him finding his way back to healthy,” says his friend Nora Flanagan. “And once he did that, he could find his way back to wrestling.”

Same! I have no idea what Kota's contract and injury situation is right now (does anyone?) but I'd be so happy if Kenny bought him to AEW. Imagine Golden Lovers tearing it up in the tag division.

It looks like both New Japan and Ibushi are just going to run out the clock on his contract. I believe it runs out this January but, I don’t know for certain.

I also don’t know what his inkling to get back into the swing of things in pro wrestling is. He’s still very injured and has said that he has only recently been able to do more than one push-up effectively in a row. He’s also posted a lot about how he’s getting bit by the kickboxing bug again.

There's a real tragedy to the way that Punk can find all the alleged health he does in anything but wrestling, then come back to wrestling and burn out all over again. How much he's really healed elsewhere, who knows. I think he's kind of washed out of the novelty celebrity crossover phase of any endeavor he's tried and doesn't really find much staying power in any of it. Wrestling is what he does. What he's good at. He hasn't rested his hat anywhere else for very long. But he also can't find fulfilment in wrestling. His ego won't let him. It all combines to be this real tragic shitshow of a situation, but it's really looking like there just isn't any way he's going to reconcile this.
