I love White Castle....about once every two years. Then instantly regret it until the next time. Yeah, they're great... about once a year.... I get a craving for them... and then almost immediately remember why it's been like a year since I've gotten them. also the term Belly Bombers is pretty ubiquitous I believe, as I've heard them called that in New York. In Minnesota the local term is "Gut Bombs." I find getting White Castle sliders without the pickles removes any internal issues. Also, their breakfast sliders are amazing. A sausage paddy with syrup between two tiny waffles.

don't forget (and this is general retail) customers coming in 5 minutes before closing and refusing to leave. Customers arguing over your return policy as if you personally created it... someone literally trying to get you to pay half for their PS5... and getting mad when you say absolutely not... as if that was a reasonable request. kids literally walking down an entire row and knocking all the shit off the shelf for fun... shitheads thinking that they are better than you simply because you are working at the store they have graced with their presence. Punk and his ego would not last a f***ing day in retail. My main takeaway from all this is that we should have more respect for Shane Douglas Shane was cool with Dominic Denucci calling a former President a hard-r racial slur in a 2017 Washington Post article so, nah, respect for Shane is fine at the level that it's at.

All this fast food and fried chicken talk. How are us vegan nerds without televisions supposed to pass the time waiting for Muffingate updates?

To me, the big four burger chains are McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's and Hardee's. That's the way it's been since I was a kid and that's okay. Other places who serve burgers are either too regional or aren't specifically centered around burgers.
But where am I going with this? I have no idea, but it's interesting how the big 4 have swapped around in regards to quality.
When I was a kid, it went like this;
1. Wendy's 2. McDonald's 3. Burger King 4. Hardee's
Then as a young adult, it was like this;
1. Hardee's 2. Burger King 3. McDonald's 4. Wendy's
Then now as it is like this;
1. McDonald's 2. Hardee's 3. Burger King 4. Wendy's
For me... Wendy's has never been good enough to warrant the price since Dave Thomas died, especially since the quality definitely dipped, but it was incredible growing up. Burger King was hit and miss as a kid since they could sometimes overchar your burger and it would taste super burned, but they at least had good kid's meals, but in high school they started having items like the BK Stackers, which were super yummy, but have since then stopped making them AND their Whoppers are hardly "king" of any burger now. Hardee's on the other hand was very gross as a child, I would find bits of grizzle and bone in their burgers and I always begged my parents to go to another burger place instead, however they absolutely killed it in the early 2000's with their Angus burgers, which are super super yummy, especially the Frisco Melt, but they dipped slightly since then and can leave you feeling like a food coma afterwards. And then there's McDonald's...the tried and true. McDonald's has never really dipped or gotten better...just remained the same my entire life. A burger I get in 2022 is going to taste the same way it did in 1989. I think that's why I still enjoy going there occasionally, because I know exactly what I'm going to get and that's the true definition of comfort food. I've probably eaten there probably 300 times in the last 35 years of my life, and I've never had a 'bad' burger.
But here's a short list of other burger places I have been to where I'd rank them from best to worst;
1. Big Boy 2. B-Bops 3. Jack in the Box 4. Culvers 5. Sonic 6. Freddy's 6. Checkers 8. In and Out Burger 9. White Castle 10. Tommy's Famous 11. A&W 12. Steak and Shake 13. Dairy Queen 14. Whataburger 15. Five Guys
And yes, price does factor into things. If I'm getting a "To Go" burger, then I better not be paying for a "Sit Down" burger.

Wrestling 'where are they now' is wild because you'll hear about some guy who washed out of the business and oh he's doing kind of well for himself now in the normal world and he kicked his drug habit, good for him, then you find out he's a serial killer who's been keeping his victims' toes as a trophy. Like, every time.

The regional differences in Big Boy are crazy. I moved to Kentucky not long ago and they’re like Shoney’s here instead of being like a burger place.
Really solid breakfast buffet, though.

The regional differences in Big Boy are crazy. I moved to Kentucky not long ago and they’re like Shoney’s here instead of being like a burger place. They're known as Frisch's Big Boy around Kentucky, Bob's Big Boy in California and just Big Boy in Michigan. All three have minor differences, but the biggest one is that the Frisch's locations use tarter sauce on their burgers instead of thousand island dressing. Sounds weird, but it is absolutely delicious. It's so good that whenever I'm in the Cincinnati area, I pick up a couple jars of the stuff they sell.

I have a tough time rating my favorite burger places. Shake Shack has been my go-to when I go to St. Louis Blues hockey games. They opened up a stand in the Enterprise Center earlier this year and their burgers are very good and their black and white shake is excellent. Another local burger place in St. Louis that has a really good burger is Hi-Point Drive-In. I've had their burgers at the Enterprise Center and they are very well seasoned. Their fries are so good, that you don't need ketchup or anything because of how they season them.

While fries aren't something that I normally seek out alone, I will attest that if you ever go to McDonald's and order some, order them WITHOUT salt. They are way way better. Not only do they make a fresh batch when you order them, but if you are someone who likes ketchup on your fries, you aren't bogged down by too much saltiness.
Generally speaking, one thing I'm happy to see come back in a lot of restaurants has been steak fries. Nice thick cut fries. It seemed like just a few years ago I couldn't get them anywhere, as they were almost entirely replaced with pepper seasoned fries (yuck), but thankfully I guess there was enough outrage that they've been brought back to places like Cracker Barrel and Texas Roadhouse where I couldn't get them for years.

Target was my grandma's and my store of choice when she wanted to spoil me as a kid, so I have good memories of Target!

Del Taco is very under the radar for great fries…when they’re fresh out of the frier, they’re tough to beat

4) I love Wendy's - especially with the welcome return of the Pretzel Pub Burger - but every town does have the "Dirty Wendy's." That's a real thing. 90% miminum of all Wendy's I've been in have been spotless, hygenic, sanitary places to enjoy what comes out of Dave's kitchen - but every city has that one Wendy's you never step foot in or even take the drive-thru in fear whatever Pigpen ghost haunts it will make its way from the drive-thru window to your automobile. This has been the case in every major city I've lived in and being on the road I've been fooled by the hidden Dirty Wendy's spread across the country like an unexpected mold. Here in Minneapolis, the Dirty Wendy's is next to my favorite Taco Bell (which is also the neck-and-neck vying for the cleanest Taco Bell distinction) so it's such a night and day testament to society's need for balance. Chaz Q. Raps, you continue to be my only ally. Thank you for supporting the idea of the Dirty Wendy's because so many people do not believe that the Dirty Wendy's is a real phenomenon. Wendy's up here got shut down over a decade ago (from what I heard, it was a hub for drug deals), so I'd like to present my local Dirty KFC/Taco Bell, which went viral in 2019 for an employee washing her hair in the kitchen sink after a food fight.

The best fries I ever had were from Rally's/Red Line. No idea if they even exist anymore. The best fries now are Burger King as they are thick and crispy(last time I went at least).
Here are my fave 5 of Burger joints.
1. Dairy Queen. 2. Whataburger(used to be number 1 before they changed ownership to some Chicago corporation and their quality dropped.) 3. Burger Boy. Burgers are excellent but their shakes are even better. 4. Burger King. Love me some Texas Double Whoppers. 5. Wendy's.

There could be 25 people waiting ahead of me and I still would have my food in 15 minutes. They have the shakes made ahead of time, so they're ready to go when the order is placed. There are a couple of locations in the St. Louis area but I've never been to one. I went to one in New York City 9 years ago.
