Austin vs Goldberg
Austin vs Hogan
Austin vs Punk

We're getting pretty close to the Witching Hour.
Also there are a lot of people in both WWE and AEW I want to see have a match with Austin before Punk.

I see that Hell is nearly upon us and that Austin vs. Hogan in 2023 being discussed signifies that. I agree that Punk vs Austin is the safest choice. The videos in WWE All Stars were awesome

I think it's inherently just not as great a pair-up as people have mythologized it to be, but Punk is the only option out of this that produces something watchable. Goldberg was never a ring general and Austin is too far removed from his in-ring days to be the glue. Hogan? Chaz I love you but f*** off out of here with that shit. |

Regarding Hogan's personal beliefs about the world aside, he's nearing 70 with a replacement hip. The man wouldn't be able to do the Leg Drop spot.
The fact we are even calling it a spot now tells much of how much Hogan can go.

A Punk/Austin match up would have great promos leading up to it and probably a bunch of smoke and mirrors used to get a passable PPV match

If I had to put a gun to my head I say Punk but mostly because I don't want Oldberg crippling Steve and I'd rather not watch Hogan literally disintegrate on his way to the ring.

Well being realistic Punk probably wouldn't be ready to wrestle by then even if there wasn't a no-compete in his AEW release. The estimated recovery time for his injury was around 8 months and it only happened in September. Hogan is basically impossible too as he can't really physically do anything. So it pretty much leaves Goldberg even if the match would be terrible. In an alternate reality with Punk not being hurt he would obviously be number one out of those options though. Like they're both surprise Royal Rumble entrants to massive pops, Austin eliminates Punk then Punk comes back in and illegally throws Austin out and beats him down to turn heel then 2 months of great promos and a basic 10-15 minute match at Wrestlemania with Austin winning. It's a better choice than Hogan or Goldberg but I still wouldn't really want to see it. This year in Texas was the perfect final match for Austin and after how Punk has acted lately he doesn't exactly deserve to be rewarded with his dream Austin match and Wrestlemania main event (it would surely main event night 1). |
