Casual reminder that WWE announced Clash at the Castle for September 2nd in April, and AEW announced All Out for September 3rd in July. I fully appreciate Tony being pissed about contract tampering, to say nothing of Triple H's constant minimizing of the company, but it'd be hard to convince an outside observer that WWE picked this fight. AEW always runs the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and WWE knows that. If anything they weren't counter programming it sounds more like they were piggybacking off of All Out and not trying to hurt them. They could've easily ran Nxt around their time but they made sure to end before the pre show. So im not buying TK them trying to hurt them.

Which goes against the entire history of how WWE does business (which includes Hunter and the way he was taught). It made no sense to run NXT that day other than to try to take away some buzz from AEW. If you wanted to highlight NXT, give them their own weekend. It's not like NXT was running in Cardiff. There was no actual reason the show had to take place Sunday. The move they chose was running it earlier to still try to hurt AEW while also having the plausible deniability demonstrated here that you weren't actively running against them. Look, it's competition and people are free to defend WWE doing whatever they can to maintain their status and push out others. It is what it is. But I've seen people for the past few years say time and again that WWE isn't actually trying to hurt AEW. That WWE had Wednesday first so AEW chose the war. That WWE wouldn't run other venues in the same market before AEW debuted there. That they were always looking to put EVOLVE on the Network and that date was a mere coincidence. There's a clear pattern of behavior here. Let's call it what it is.

But I think this isnt one of those times. How do you hurt an anticipated PPV with your development brand? Plus they ran a show the night before, if they really wanted to hurt AEW Clash at the Castle wouldve been ran on Sunday.

Yeah this definitely isn’t one of those times, even though there’s some stretching to try to make it seem so. I mean they literally put NXT on at 4 pm just so it wouldn’t run head to head with All Out.
