LETHAL INJECTION AVOID AVOID
AVOID
MAALAKAI BLACK
So last night I watched the Deadlock Highlights compilation of the big Codyverse segments from the very end of his run and like I know it's been less than a year but god damn does the whole like last year of the AEW Codyverse deserve to be in a museum. Dude ended racism, fought the colonies, fought QT Marshall on a bus like it was Austin/Rock, made people love Sammy Guevara for a tiny bit longer, gave Brandi the courage she needed to have back to back all time bad segments with Dan Lambert (god rest his soul. he's not dead he just doesn't get booked anymore so he's dead on the inside probably.), rolled around in Elmer's Glue, set himself on fire cause he didn't use *enough* Elmer's Glue, ended Satanism with the Tiger Driver 98, set Gunner McGillibuddy straight, and f***ing LEFT. American Job Well Done.

Never forget that half hinged tirade promo that went like nowhere right before he left where he was talking about how much he gave and about what the royal family thing REALLY meant

Cody "I will do what the f*** I want when I want" (he doesn't have a last name)"
His own little weird corner of hell just kept getting weirder and weirder. None of it went anywhere, he was just happy to string people along for the ride.
Cody is going to turn heel, f*** you, no I am not but I will strongly act like it though.
Cody is going to get out his own weird little bubble. Bitch you thought, my half black baby gives me all the rights to speak on black violence and culture

How about his wife running an underground wrestling cult out of his house and on tv and his response basically being "It's the 21st century and women are free to do what they want. I'll support my wife but her business is her's, not mine."

Don't think I'm ever gonna get over him coming out and cutting the most bizarre and outrageous promo of his life, so demented and rambling and aimless that it seemed for sure like finally he was changing his character up and going heel or at least doing something new. One where he all but took credit for the existence of wrestling and said he wasn't going to WWE. But then he left days later and it turned out that that was either his farewell promo or some kind of attempt to prove to Tony he was still the man? I don't know which is more bizarre. I physically cannot tell you which outcome is more insane between "That's his version of goodbye" and "He thought this was gonna be what turned Tony Khan around on him being a top guy" because it was a man at his most flopsweaty and desperate.

Not only does he become THE STAR in the company again, he had a ready made storyline of turning his back on a promise of never challenging for the AEW title again

What do you guys want to talk about? I’m reminded from that last match about a man who once sat on a stage just like that, looked in a ring just like this, and he gave one of the most important addresses in the history of our sport. It inspired thousands of would-be wrestlers. It mobilized literally millions of fans. It was the first hint of a revolution. I am talking about CM Punk and the pipe bomb. Someone told me to save this promo but I honestly don’t know if I’m going to get the chance so I’m going to do it now. In that interview, that was the first whiff of a revolution. He laid out a roadmap. He listed things. Things that for him – for somebody like me – that were taboo at the time. Things like going to New Japan Pro Wrestling, working with Ring of Honor, and ultimately, he would talk about teaming with the young bucks, as destiny would have it. As fate would have it. He was unable to do those things. But he would join – he would eventually wind up here in what pro wrestling illustrated called the comeback of the year, but if we’re being honest with one another, and I see all the CM Punk shirts, it is the comeback of the decade. We are all living it, we are all loving it. But in his absence, in the void that cm punk left behind, somebody did do each and every one of those things. I did them. I carried every ounce of anti-monopoly sentiment on my shoulders. I held every grade of the revolution in my hands and each and every one of you cheered. You wanna ask why I won’t turn heel? It’s because you cheered me when I needed it the most. When it says there is more than one royal family in wrestling, I am talking about me and all of us! People talk about the forbidden door. It’s a proper noun. Its vernacular. But if you are an industry journalist who covers what we do and you disagree with anything that I say here tonight you’re not a journalist. As this generation likes to say, check the receipts, check the dates. Before there was a forbidden door, I was the one who built it! And I am gone – I’m gone for two weeks. Two weeks, and I see that the young bucks last week in the opening segment almost started the Wednesday night wars all over again. And listen I know Red Dragon graduated hip toss class with flying colors, but I don’t need to see the bucks beat the developmental more than once. And then my friend, my Trelawny like friend in Ricky Starks, my real life friend, gets into a tiff with Jay Lethal. Word to the wise, the Lethal Injection is the one cutter in the business that people don’t kick out of, AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! And then one of the most talented wrestlers on the planet that you’re gonna see later, Malakai Black. A guy who hung two losses on my name and everybody knows I hate to lose. A man who needed no help added insult to injury by getting help in the form of just this size and speed and strength, and I know we’re not in the business of renaming people like Gunner McGilabuddy or whatever the hell it is, but not just speed and strength, balls. Because if you come to AEW and you call yourself Brody, you’ve got balls. And I’ll let you find out in eight years what a mistake that was when that kid shows up. But speaking of Brodie, speaking of Darby, of Miro, and the TNT Champion, Sammy Guevara. These are men, a lineage, a legacy of champions who taught you what you had been taught against. Everyone had been conditioned for 20 years that any title that doesn’t have the word world in it is a secondary belt. But we don’t have secondary belts, the only way it’s secondary is because right now there’s two. I think it’s pretty clear what we do. I know Tony Khan has sent a contract in the mail to Sammy Guevara and myself – maybe it’s not the contract I wanted – but Sammy at this point – Beach Break – two titles – one champion. Oi Sammy Guevara, what do you say?

crazy to think this same guy has the entire world, fan and otherwise alike pulling for him on the other side what a weird run. Helps that he basically has a filter now Besides that he needed a "new audience" as the AEW crowd was def seeing through is BS. You can only be ultra patriotic and grandiose for so long. Besides the fact you look like a f***ing super villain and running around with a whole crew

He was so close. He would have been an amazing star once more and instead we got uh. Bad.

What helps is that WWE has been heel-dominated for so long that Cody can just play it straight as the All-American Babyface and people will eat it up. He also doesn't have the "Jeff Jarrett in TNA/Triple H Reign of Terror" stink, fair or not, on him in WWE that he had in AEW because he was the most visible of the EVP's doing EVP-type stuff.

Like I did not like NJPW Cody, he felt out of place but his jealous bitch character is money for AEW. For a dude as smart as him, you play up the HHH/Jarrett vibes when you're a heel and you would had a shit ton of babyface opponents to make money off of

When Bucks/Omega were losing basically their first year in the company, Cody was winning and rightfully so. He was the star and you had a ready made feud between him and MJF ready to go but the way they executed everything wasn't flawless His run after that first year just got weird
