My friend wants to go to Westminster Hall from Thursday to pay respects so will probably tag along. Expecting big queues though.

Make sure you have a read of the rules:

Make sure you have a read of the rules: Regardless of wait time, this is once in a lifetime and historical. News update: the Queen has left Scotland for the very last time and is en route to London by plane and will be at Buckingham in a hour half- two hours at the most.

I heard England is canceling peoples operations and other life saving stuff for this. Is that true? Because if it is thats nonsense.

And she returns to London in typical British weather - absolute pissing rain.
That and the illumination in the hearse reminds me of the number of times my mom would yell at me sitting in the back seat with the ceiling light on while she was driving.
No offense or disrespect, I’m a believer in seeing humor even in great sadness to try and get through the pain or make it bearable.

Apparently so, at least according to the Sunday Times' health editor. According to this report it's a decision that is being made at the local level, rather than national, so it's unknown just how widespread it is.

I’m struck by a wild thought - in 1953, a 25 year old woman entered a palace in an era of silent newsreel, black and white photos and newsprint. She reenters it tonight in an era of 24/7 news, digital photos and Twitter and Instagrams.
She really saw an age. How impressive.

Yup, and the extra bank holiday we're getting, it's "optional" apparently but some places are going overboard. Like Centre Parks shutting on Monday... so anyone in the middle of a stay there gets kicked out for a day during their holiday that'll be expensive and planned for months.

I have read (but not anywhere I’d consider reputable) that some funerals that had already been arranged before Liz died, have been cancelled. If that is true, that is a f***ing disgrace.

It's like the company is being run by Basil Fawlty. My work has "given" us the day off, mostly because the building we work in is closing for the day, but if we want to get our full pay then we have to book a day of leave. So that was good of them.

The shop I work for, the company told the media yesterday that all stores would be shut the day of the funeral, the staff (at least in my store) only got told today but not how they are going to work it, either as an automatic paid day off, having to put it in on Workday as a holiday without eating into our yearly quota like with all bank holidays or unpaid leave

Handsome Justin just said we get a national holiday next Monday to mourn. It looks like federal employees get a day off and the rest is up to the provinces since most workers are under their jurisdiction. Doesn't look like anything will shut down in Ontario. Edit: rather it looks like nothing will be required to shut down. I wouldnt be surprised if banks and the like take the day.
