Elizabeth II was the longest reigning monarch; Louis XIV spent a substantial chunk of his superlative reign with a regency because he became king at 3.

Rip Queen Elizabeth II, thought I’d never say that tbh, she’s been around always. Sure. Same reason why Betty White was a gut punch too. Besides me genuinely being a fan and admiring her as a person. She was around for all of so many's lives too. Like I said, some changes can be very jarring and uncomfortable.

He's still recognized as king, though, regency or not, so technically Louis is the longest reigning monarch of all time. Elizabeth is most certainly the longest reigning queen, though.

Wondering what the reginal name will be. Assuming Charles III but given the history of it I could see George VII. PM announced his name as Charles III It's not the PM's duty to announce such things, and his regnal name will not be officially confirmed until Charles meets with the Accession Council tomorrow.

I feel the lock may be coming/needed. Anyway either way it's another person who was around for most if not all our lives. So the feeling of change is there, which can be uncomfortable. And losing an iconic figure, of course. It’s not going to be locked. Possibly the most famous person in the world has just died and it’s a massive talking point. But I’m going to say this. If you’re against the Monarchy then that’s perfectly fine but maybe it’s not the time to express those opinions here. I'm going to echo the sentiment, please remember this is an in memoriam thread and it isn't the time or place for jokes or opinions on the monarchy.

Today is my mothers 70th birthday and it’s the only British monarch ever to exist in her lifetime, I think that’s incredible. Although American my heritage is strongly based in the United Kingdom and my family many of whom immigrated to United States during her lifetime.

The other "technically" part is in the title of the different lists on the wikipedia page I linked He's the longest reigning monarch of a sovereign states with a verifiable reign by exact date Then the next list is monarchs of dependent or constituent states with a verifiable reign by exact date. There are 16 on that list that reigned longer. Then the last list is of monarchs whose exact dates of rule are unknown However you categorize the lists, Elizabeth II's feat is a remarkable one.

Those are very long descriptors to put on a business card, that's for sure haha. I agree, though, Elizabeth's reign is incredible, especially considering that, unlike someone like Louis, she became queen in her 20's.

Charles is the oldest person to become Monarch at age 73. The previous being William IV who was 64. My first thought was that he might not be around very long... but his parents lived well into their 90s. There's a good chance he'll be the monarch for 20+ years.

Incoming Kings and Queens can use any of their given names.
