I'll just say it because this whole thing is going to be drawn out further; I don't care if the Bucks and Omega leaked stuff to Meltzer, I don't care if they rubbed people the wrong way backstage with speeches or BTE gags or whatever. I do not care if what Punk said is true and it's all a mess backstage and he was trying to help the company. Punk still ranted at the press conference. Punk still punched a dude, hit another with a chair and let his friend bite the other. They all got suspended for two months because of the aftermath and pretty much wrecked a lot of company booking during that time with it only now just getting to some kind of stability. If all this happened backstage and we hear about it with leaks and speculation, that's entirely different to actually doing it publicly. If Punk wants to come back, Punk's got to be the bigger man publicly apologize and no stories about him giving Starbucks vouchers to the women or one-word Instagram replies are going to change that simple fact. And there's nothing in Punk's history that tells me that's going to happen. There were reports of him being offended about Colt returning or Kenny/the Bucks mocking the post scrum antics during their six man tags, but afterwards he said “duh” on that post where FTR bald was talking about all sides coming together. I think that that is progress and I’m sure deep down he knows that he was the one in the wrong for the scrum actions. Plus he has AJ as a wife and I don’t think she’s the type of person that would agree with what he did and maybe she’s been in his ear

For all we know, "Duh" could mean "We could make money from this except not with those f***heads and not in AEW". It's just a word. It means nothing. Like, if something happens suddenly in the next few months, I'll gladly eat my words. But actions need to be taken on his side because he publicly caused the mess. Nothing that can be said will change that overall point for me.

Yes he did, which would make him a bigger hypocritical heel if he did come back if he didn’t do a public apology. I think for this specific instance the apology should be private, and he can admit his wrongdoings after the angle is done with Not everything has to be an angle, though. This isn't 1997 anymore and there's no benefit to Tony Khan sitting with Renee to do a "Punk screwed Punk" promo outside of discourse about it copying an angle that only "concluded" this year. If Punk decided that he was 100% done with wrestling, then yes he should do a public apology. But if he comes back and say fueds with MJF or something like nothing happened, I feel like that would be a huge elephant in the room. When Matt Hardy came back and fueded with Edge in 05 that was based around real life issues and it catapulted Edge to the Main Event scene as THE top heel. It could of catapulted Matt too if he wasn’t a doofus and had that car crash promo. Yes I know 05 is closer to 97 than it is to 2022 but have we had a real life fued in wrestling between two competitors in the same company since?

But if he comes back and say fueds with MJF or something like nothing happened, I feel like that would be a huge elephant in the room. Hence he should apologize either way. Solves both issues. Also, you're comparing two dramatically different situations here. Especially since Matt was fired when he did the Byte This call, a call that also didn't involve him burying the company, management and his status as a top star (which, it's Matt Hardy in 2004, he was about as much a top star as Rene Dupree was).

Isn't Punk the chap who said "the apology must be louder than the offense?" Yes he did, which would make him a bigger hypocritical heel if he did come back if he didn’t do a public apology. I think for this specific instance the apology should be private, and he can admit his wrongdoings after the angle is done with Punk a hypocrite? Never

I wouldn't read too much into Punk's comment there. It's one thing to hint publicly that you're open to sorting things out and its another to actually take the steps privately to make it happen. "I'm willing but they're not," is a way to get people back on your side.
I hope they can sort things out. Punk's first year was great and AEW is better when it has both Punk and the Elite on the shows. I still think Punk and Omega have a great match in them (if they play to their individual strengths instead of Punk trying to keep up with Omega) I personally don't care about a public apology so as long as everyone involved is willing to give it a go, as a fan, I would be too.

I don't think he owes an apology specifically to the fans. But a public apology for his behavior at the scrum embarrassing his coworkers, Tony Khan, the company, and even himself? Absolutely.

I only say to the fans because, like I said, it affected the product in many different ways but yes, you do something publicly as a public figure, you apologize as a public figure. I don't think that's a really hard thing to ask for.

I don't think that's a really hard thing to ask for. I feel like pro wrestling is a completely different animal than anything else though. I know it’s not the 70s anymore and Kayfabe is long since dead but people still use real life instances in fueds and I feel like a public apology will diminish that IF he comes back. If he does come back as a mega heel that only came to AEW for the money and wanted to take the company over (sort of like his real life persona) and you had Kenny and the Bucks fight against him then that would be huge money for the performers and the company which would trickle down to the low carders and be worth more than a public apology in the long run. Punk putting over Kenny or Hangman clean would be more of an apology than just words. And I’m sure the fans would realize that some sort of apology was made if he did happen to come back

I had a longer response but I'm sorry, it's 2022. Kayfabe's been dead since the 1930s regardless of what people think. All you'd be doing is basically showing your lockerroom that the best way to get attention for feuds is by shouting about it unplanned in press conferences and that's a dangerous precedence to set in a lockerroom you want to control things in.

I think public apology and private apology both hold different weights but that doesn't mean both aren't important. What he needs to do to make amends to the people he assaulted are definitely not things that hew needs to apologize to the audience for, but I also feel that, frankly, Punk does owe the fans some sort of an apology. I've talked a lot about the ways that people took what he did so hard and so many really big fans turned so sharply on him because of what they saw as a complete breaking away from what they came to respect him for and what he'd built himself as. If Punk wants to win back the trust of the fans he's turned away then that absolutely needs to begin with some kind of apology. Punk is not any ordinary wrestleguy and the connection he had with the audience is so much more complicated than can be fixed with just him showing up to work again without addressing it.

I don't think any apology Phil Brooks the man gives for how Phil Brooks acted has any bearing on any sort of storyline involving CM Punk being a mega-heel. Not everything involving common decency has to be sacrificed for THE HEATZ to work fans who already know this shit isn't real.
One of the more common criticisms of AEW is expecting the fans to almost be too intelligent in terms of knowing who wrestlers are and where they come from. But I'll take that approach all day, every day over the Vince McMahon tendency to treat fans like complete idiots. And that'd be the sort of thing that does that.

Ok fine lol. I guess a tweet saying sorry if he upset the fans and acknowledging that he made amends with Tony/the Bucks ect but his first promo back has to be a mega heel promo

Public racism and misogyny? Bad but can be earned if you’ve been in the business for decades. Public expressions of unprofessionalism? Fine if they come after gifts of coffee vouchers and helping some young talent. I think that covers everything.
