Most of us have eaten cows, pigs, sheep, fish etc but what about other not so common ones? And how do they taste?
I've had crocodile when in Australia which I thought tasted like a more chewy chicken. Also in Oz I had kangaroo, a nice piece of red meat that has to be cooked well done or so I'm told. And pigeon and eel at a posh restraunt with my parents and their friends. Both very nice despite being small portions.

Hmm, I think the most out there meat I have had is a fried quail from a Chinese takeaway.
It was a bit greasy.

I've eaten ostrich, which tasted like duck to me (not a bad thing), and kangaroo, which was covered in an overpowering BBQ sauce, so I couldn't tell you what it actually tasted like.

Had a crocodile sausage. Not bad, a lot more coarse than other sausages.
Would goat brain count? Very fatty, felt it would have been better fried until crispy. Also ate meals using blood and bile. And while duck isn't that weird, I eat balut on the regular. Quail eggs are common enough here.
On the flip side, sheep or lamb is rare here due to the climate. Few places serve them.

Snail. I couldn’t possibly tell you how it tastes as I ate it more than three decades ago.

I ate a deep fried mealworm in Thailand. It was quite plain and just rather...mushy,

Venison's pretty good. Lamb is alright if you cook it correctly, and PROFOUNDLY greasy if you do not.
Gator was good when I had it. It was breaded and fried like popcorn chicken when I had it. It was sort of like if you crossed 85 percent chicken with 15 percent shrimp, in terms of flavor.
Calamari's nice. Octopus is very chewy, though it tastes nice.
I've had ostrich and kangaroo as jerky. Neither were remarkable, but that was probably moreso due to it being cheap jerky. I'd like to taste them in a more authentic context.

I have tried to put the taste of alligator into words for years.

Venison is pretty good, as is lamb more often than not. I find I don’t care for octopus and it’s easy to find place that screw up calamari. I’ve also had kangaroo and ostrich jerky. I actively did not care for the kangaroo. Buffalo is also fairly tasty. There’s a burger joint here in town that offers elk burgers, which are really good as long as you account for the burgers being nowhere as juicy as beef because of the significantly lower fat content. Quail is fine, as is pheasant meat. I’ve also liked duck when I had it. Deer meat is interesting. Straight up, it is delicious. Put into sausage, however, is not something I care for.

There's a place right up the block from me that specializes in game meats, so along with beef burgers, chicken, and lamb they usually have alligator sausage and burgers made of bison, yak, camel, kangaroo, or elk, all of them quite good.
Calamari and octopus are very normal for me; being Sicilian means it's just part of a lot of traditional recipes, and they're usually great.

With Gator, it's more about the smell, I think. I wasn't really a fan the one time I tried it.
Bear, on the other hand... probably the best meat I've ever had was a bear roast.
I wouldn't really count venison as outside the normal since I grew up with having a _lot_ of it.

The small-ish squid here is real nice. Though it's important to remember to have the seller clean the squid's guts first - one time was eating some and got greeted by something sharp poking my gum. It got caught just after eating and there were still fish bones undigested. I've seen fish mongers clean the guts out and sometimes they'd fish out a whole (but tiny) fish.
Speaking of odd food, I recommend this youtube channel. Guy fishes and prepares his meals, ranging from normal fish to the really odd.

I had rabbit at a grade school history event thing once. ... Wouldn't have it again, don't remember how it tasted really but a year or so later I met my cousin's pet rabbit and it was just so much like a cat in how it acted that I just wouldn't be able to bring myself to do it.

Speaking of cats... no, FAN, I didn't eat one. Relax. That said, when I was young there's been jokes/urban legends that street stands for siomai and siopao would be oddly free of street cats. And really back then it wasn't illegal to eat dogs.

I like a bit of rabbit myself. Another one of those 'taste like chicken ' animals. Normally I have it when on holiday somewhere in Europe, doesn't seem to be popular UK/Ireland.
Surprised lamb was mentioned, I thought it was one of the standard meats. Had some last Sunday at my folks. Always goes well with mint sauce and roasties

Kangaroo is probably the only one that's exotic that I've tried. I remember a friend of mine went into a liquor store and ask'd the vendor what's the best wine that go along with it. 😂
Not sure how common it's to eat horse meat elsewhere. But it's pretty common in mettwurst over here. Was just talking about this to a friend of mine today, who had no idea and he has always stuffed it down his throat. 🤣
Watching Best Ever Food Review Show is one of my faves to watch. I myself don't want to ever try most of the foods that's eaten in it, regardless.
