Gunn should a movie about DC's version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Soooo, the Omega Men? The Darkstars? The Shadowpact?

So, I say this with the caveat that I like James Gunn. I think he's got a great comics-to-movies mind and I'm excited for the DCU. I also say this knowing he had no hand in the decision to move forward with the Flash.
Right before Shazam 2 came out, Zachary Levi decided to out himself as an anti-vax loser. Gunn was asked about it and basically threw up his hands and said something along the lines of, "What am I supposed to do? Throw my actors under the bus when they say or do something shitty?"
Yes, sir. That is exactly what you do.
When one of your lead actors goes on a multi-month, multi-state crime spree, you say, "This f***er is unhinged and we no longer support them." When one of your lead actors goes full on anti-vax, you say, "This f***ing dickhead should learn to keep his dumbf*** thoughts to himself, I'm done with his stupid ass."
Just my feelings on Gunn and his future as a leader for DC.

Thematically, the closest equivalent to the Guardians of the Galaxy in DC is probably L.E.G.I.O.N. Has anybody at DC actually done anything with that group since the 90's? Tonally though, I would say the team that probably most closely resembles the Guardians - a scrappy group of obscure and humorous underdogs constantly getting into fights above their paygrade - would be the JLI. I would be so down for a JLI movie.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC4gt18EUw0Love watching Dan Murrel, basically in this video, he breaks down what went wrong and how he would of fixed the DCEU and he’s pretty much spot on imo

I'd argue The Suicide Squad was pretty much the same tone as GotG with the exceptions that it was set on Earth and you had a bunch of extraneous members who were there just to die and reinforce the idea of how dangerous their mission was.

Easy to say when it's not your career on the line, when you're not in charge of, or one of the countless other people that depend on the projects not being complete financial catastrophes. He inherited these train wreck projects and is trying to be as diplomatic as he can. It would have been utterly irresponsible for Gunn to sidle over to a dumpster fire he didn't start and chuck in a tyre. I could understand being mad if he supported them, made plans to keep using them, but he doesn't and he hasn't.

Hasn't Gunn's only contribution to DC prior to taking over the DCEU (i.e. creating a new one) been The Suicide Squad? I don't think anything other than The Suicide Squad can be attributed to Gunn. His DC begins with Superman Legacy.

Especially when you have a shithead like Zaslav as CEO. I don't think Zaslav would've hesitated to fire Gunn from the role if he went rogue and buried the stars of movies the company was putting out and promoting.

Feel like if they have any sense at all they need to push back Superman bare minimum a couple more years. The box office performance of every non-Batman DC movie over the past few years really just goes to show that the audience just is not there, and I don't think a reboot alone is going to suddenly bring them back.
Also I'd just completely rethink the director choice for BatB because between the CinemaScore and the second weekend drop it's clear that audiences just absolutely f***ing hate the Flash.

I have no idea who David Corenswet is, but then I had no idea who Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill were before their Superman movies, either.
Rachel Brosnahan is a solid casting for Lois, though.

Good luck to them, I hope the movie is a success.
I still think this should be on hold for a couple of years, but what do I know about anything, lmao.

If you have an IP it must be milked for maximum returns to satisfy the shareholders. I am shocked Disney has let Star Wars go this long.

I think Disney only allowed the movies to breathe for so long because of all the money they made out of the little guy in my profile icon.

I imagine Disney's mostly let things sit with Star Wars so long because it was very clear where the wind was blowing between the severe drop in success both critically and commercially for Rise of Skywalker and Solo outright bombing. If they'd kept on plugging with the movies they'd be in the exact same situation DC's in now.

But as we know business doesnt care about long term anymore. Everything is next quarter, immediate profit, screw long term and the future. But as other said they probably make enough on Grogu merch to get away with it.
