Verlander to the Mets for 2 years, $86 million + a vesting option for a 3rd year. Crazy that he could get money at age 40. Scherzer/Verlander at the top of the rotation in 2023 is either going to be amazing to watch or an example of father time being undefeated.
Though two years for Verlander might be the less risky decision versus five years for deGrom.

There's buzz that Verlander will soon be a Met, with a 2 year deal (3rd year mutual option) worth over $85 million. The source of that rumor? I swear to God, Carlos Baerga. Dude's apparently broken a number of signings in recent years, so that kept me from immediately dismissing it as bullshit. BAERGA BOMB!

Verlander on the Mets at least means he won't be on the Astros. Still giving him that big a 2 year deal at his age is a hell of a gamble.

The Mets and their rotation is one of the oldest in baseball. They are for sure a win now situation, they better not be hugging prospects.

Verlander on the Mets at least means he won't be on the Astros. Still giving him that big a 2 year deal at his age is a hell of a gamble. Justin Verlander was fading into the twilight of his career in his final four seasons in Detroit (3.59 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 119 starts) before he was dealt to Houston and found the fountain of youth (2.33 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 11.4 K/9 in 97 starts). The question now is whether his late-career rejuvenation was due to Houston's in-house coaching and analytics, or if Verlander just figured out what worked for him as he hit his late-30s.

Remember when Verlander and Scherzer were in the same rotation and the Giants kicked their ass in the World Series despite the entire world thinking they’d get killed?

Damn, $300m over 11 years, and he's only one year younger than Judge.

Full no trade clause hurts in the long run
A lot of star talent signing earlier than usual

More like a fool no trade clause.
That's just ridiculous.

Yankees extend Cashman for another 4 years. Yep. Judge won’t be back. Sure, use it to dunk on me if he does re-sign, but why would he? When he’s not being generally incompetent, airing out contract talks like a dumbass, or keeping a malleable puppet at his disposal, Cashman is getting paid top dollar by his equally incompetent boss to mire the team that’s in his stewardship in relative mediocrity. I just want to see him get bombed with criticism if Judge does skip town.

Yankees extend Cashman for another 4 years. If Judge leaves on the same week that Cashman is extended, then man, the Yankees fanbase is going to riot.

To get Judge it might take an ownership stake in a Premier League Club with how these contracts are going.

Full no trade clause hurts in the long run A lot of star talent signing earlier than usual Don't care about the no trade clause tbh, it's Trea Turner, ride him as long as you can and that amazing talent I am also very happy top stars are signing earlier than usual because I remember how long it took to sign Harper and it was f***ing agony for months.

If not, it's going to be very close. I expect a 9 year deal for like $340M with an option year they probably take it to like $375M or something. If someone is crazy enough to give him 11 years Yanks are def saying f*** that. But he most likely will end up with the highest paid free agent contract ever when he does sign

Yankees extend Cashman for another 4 years. Ummm I wouldn’t sign him to shit if Judge isn’t signed on the dotted line From a logical standpoint, it makes most sense to move on from Cashman regardless, but given the long standing relationship between Steinbrenner & Cashman, it just wasn't going to happen.
When you've got an old boys club running things, it's a problem. This reminds me too much of how many of sports teams suffered from this type of management structure.

In the major grand scheme of things, he's been running things for 25 years and they have yet to have a losing season in those 25 years. That is a big accomplishment However, the team has not been the WS since 09 and 25 years is a long time especially when the game has changed in how information is presented. For better or worse, Cashman is the end all be all
