Cashman being back or not doesn't really have much effect on if Judge comes back or not. Because Judge and his people are negotiating with Hal Steinbrenner directly.

Carlos Rodon is looking for a 6 year deal
Judge is expected to be at Winter Meetings and thus far the race is between Yankees, Giants and a "mystery team" (Probably Dodgers)

From a logical standpoint, it makes most sense to move on from Cashman regardless, but given the long standing relationship between Steinbrenner & Cashman, it just wasn't going to happen.
When you've got an old boys club running things, it's a problem. This reminds me too much of how many of sports teams suffered from this type of management structure.
In the major grand scheme of things, he's been running things for 25 years and they have yet to have a losing season in those 25 years. That is a big accomplishment However, the team has not been the WS since 09 and 25 years is a long time especially when the game has changed in how information is presented. For better or worse, Cashman is the end all be all Not having a losing season over the course of the past couple of decades is an impressive feat in and of itself. But on the other end, for a team who's got a vast amount of resources at their disposal, it is concerning that the Yanks haven't had a WS appearance since 2009.

We're only at day three of the Winter Meetings and the Red Sox have already reached the "Tommy Kahnle (who has thrown 13.2 IP since the start of the 2020 season) is making a decision on where to sign today and we're optimistic it's with us!" stage of depression.

So a few days late but Mets fans can I ask what the logic is in letting deGrom walk and replacing him with Verlander? Like ok I get there is a injury fear factor when it comes to deGrom but Jacob deGrom was one of the faces of your team a beloved member who will be younger then Verlander is now when that new contract runs out. And isn't it just as risky if not more to trust the arm of a 40 year old Justin Verlander?

Meanwhile DeGrom has not been healthy the last 2 years and he’s commanding years and money

Turner turned down an extra $41 million from the padres. Man must love the east coast Usually with these type of cases I assume a lot of it is we deferred. Like when Soto turned down like $400M but it was over like 15 years and I think a chunk of it was deferred money

Jesus. Wonder how much of that is deferred Who knows how reliable but I’m seeing on Twitter the Yankees have 340 on the table. Reports about a weeks ago said they had an offer close to that amount before. But any offer out there he told Yanks he would give them a final say so
