The Rangers are using the Rockies strategy of spending big and bringing in big names to drum up fan interest. It's working by God because Rangers fans are really pumped, but they should really temper their expectations because these haven't been good investments at all.
Well, apart from the deGrom one, but even that one has some red flags given his injury issues.

Taijuan Walker to the Phillies 4/$72M That's probably not gonna go well, if I had to guess.

When that contracts split up over 4 years that's honestly not a big deal If Painter's up by the ASB that's essentially our fifth man and that's a really good fifth man to have, an upgrade over Falter, Thor, or Gibson before him, by far.

I wouldn't pay attention to his record; Taijuan was good last year, no doubt, but records are much more team reliant than anything else, e.g. if he had been pitching with the Phillies' April-July bullpen last year it wouldn't have looked that good. He's a good pick for a #4 starter, can be a #3 in a pinch, but I think the issue is the 4 years on the deal, dude's had some injury issues and that's a good amount of years and money for someone who's had issues staying on the field before. That said, in 2021 he started strong then faded down the stretch since he had missed so much time the years before, but last year he was still pretty strong to the end, so it's possible he's worked his way out of that. Time will tell.

Time will tell. For sure. The health and home park are the biggest concerns. He hasn't really pitched well in Philly recently. He's missed significant time before. And when he signed with the Mets, it was a relatively cheap deal. Very low downside compared to this.

In one year Judge turned $217m into $360m. When betting on yourself pays off big time. Good for him, and good on the Yankees for not cheaping out. Contract will look bad in years 6 through 9 but by then Stanton’s contract will be done and Cole’s too. Now Cashman has to develop young talent around Judge.

Instead of Aaron Judge, you get Mitch Haniger! If he's healthy, Haniger is great hitter with so-so defence. I think Giants' fans will like him. ... as long as he's healthy that is.

Mets have signed Jose Quintana for two years, $26 million. So rotation for now looks like Scherzer, Verlander, Carrasco, and Quintana.
