Judge is going to be a massive albatross at the end of that deal, it's hard to see his body aging well.

Judge is going to be a massive albatross at the end of that deal, it's hard to see his body aging well. Sure probably but the deal had to happen. Could you imagine the nuclear fallout of the NY media and fans if Judge walked. Hal and Cashman could never show their face in public again if they didn't make the deal. And yet that same media and fanbase (myself included) will be here around the 7 year mark of the contract saying "how could the Yankees do this deal oh its killing them oh how stupid they were" its a damned if you do damned if you don't for the organization and they went with the positive press in the present

Giving massive long term deals to guys that are 30 is never good.

Then he had an MVP season and broke the AL home run record.

I just don't understand these teams, who pulled the blanket over their eyes that paying guys for multiple unproductive seasons is just what everyone does?

Mets have signed Jose Quintana for two years, $26 million. So rotation for now looks like Scherzer, Verlander, Carrasco, and Quintana. And apparently the Mets are in on trying to sign Kodai Senga out of Japan, so if that happens and then you've got Peterson, Megill, and Lucchesi as the 6-8 starters, that's pretty insane depth. It's also an old rotation, so that depth would be important, but the great part is that most of them would only be on the books for a couple more years...which would mean Ohtani would still be on next year's free agency table...

He was also pissed at the offer and Cashman for leaking it. He damn near doubled his money from what he was offered

I said the following on Aug. 30, and not a word of it has changed with the news of the Yankees signing Aaron Judge to a nine-year, $360 million contract.
I understand that Aaron Judge means more to the New York Yankees than dollars and cents. He's the torchbearer of the signature franchise in Major League Baseball, the heir apparent to legends like Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Reggie, and Jeter. But he's also a colossal health risk entering his age-31 season starting the first year of a contract that will pay him $40 million annually until he's nearing 40 years old. This has the risk to mirror disastrous deals like Albert Pujols to the Angels (10 years, $240 million at age 32) and the Miguel Cabrera extension in Detroit (8 years, $248 million at age 31).

Willy is a Cardinal. I’m ambivalent. I would’ve rather seen him sign with any other team. But I wouldn’t have wanted the Cubs to give him that contract. If his bat stays viable, he’s worth it. If it doesn’t, he’s a zero sum player.
Now g get Correa, Cubs.
