Black eye for the franchise. This is going to linger longer than the 13 years of the deal they backed out of.

It's not official yet though It's ok, they knew they had to avoid any physical shenanigans, so they signed the most durable player with the cleanest injury history: Michael Conforto.

They also signed the other Rodgers twin. Which I can’t complain about at all actually. A good rebound signing, which hopefully turns out like the Dodgers when they got Blake Trinen on the cheap.

Owners getting ready to show their entire collective ass over Cohen blowing up their whole "let's keep wages down without going full collusion" game.
Step one? Admit to collusion!

Owners getting ready to show their entire collective ass over Cohen blowing up their whole "let's keep wages down without going full collusion" game. Step one? Admit to collusion! That's why this Cohen thing is so fascinating. MLB owners colluding is the worst kept secret in sports. They don't have to share a % of revenue with the players like the other leagues do, and they can easily manipulate player salaries and supply/demand every year if they wanted to. Cohen is basically the opposite of that. He helped inflate player costs (started with Scherzer), and basically laughs at the CBT thresholds which the owners have used as an invisible salary cap for years. People are saying things are going to come to blows during the next CBA but this isn't owners vs players. It's owners vs themselves. They can't force Cohen to sell if he doesn't want to, and nothing is stopping Cohen for having a $500m payroll if he's willing to pay the tax and accept the penalties. The reality is, small market owners weren't going to spend money even if Steve Cohen didn't exist. Now they are just going to use his spending to rationalize how unfair the system is when they don't even want to try.

Now they are just going to use his spending to rationalize how unfair the system is when they don't even want to try. Collusion resurfacing in baseball has been talked about since 2015. They can't kick Cohen out, they'll just go through more legal routes and vote in much, much harsher penalties to implement basically an unofficial hard cap. Because it's so easy to crush Cohen who is in the minority, if not entirely alone. So essentially colluding to beat the guy who isn't colluding with double-collusion. Which will do wonders for the younger demo who are already disinterested in baseball as a whole.

All they have to do is just implement an actual salary cap. But the cheaper owners won't do it because that also includes implementing a salary floor. And the union won't go for it because the Cohens of baseball won't be able to spend absurd money on contracts for the top tier of players.

Blue Jays traded Gabriel Moreno and Lourdes Guirrel Jr. to the DBacks for Daulton Varsho Was a little confused why the Diamondbacks would get rid of Varsho but Moreno's a damn good prospect. Deal may end up being good for both.
