I like the extra inning rule. The fact that it's only for the regular season and not for the playoffs is the right call as well. Does anyone benefit from long extra inning games? The players don't, the league doesn't get more money out of it, and if you look at the stands during any regular season game that ends in the 18th inning it's basically 10 people there. Even TV viewers are probably going to tune out at some point. End the regular season games as quickly as possible. Both teams get the ghost runner so it's not like it's unfair to either side. I understand it takes some getting used to, especially for long time fans, but I think it was necessary. The fact that the players agreed to it too is a good indication that it's universal accepted within the game now. One change I would possibly make is having the line up start from the top for extra innings as a "new game" thus putting the 9th batter on at 2nd and making the top of your lineup that more important The rule has worked as intended with limiting the marathons. I think the 2021 season no game went past the 13th inning and I want to say only one made it past the 15th I also don't mind the idea of extra innings starting in the 11th BUT that's what you have 9 inning for. The ghost runner adds strategy and doesn't just make it a swing for the fences contest when players are gassed out. Can you give the home team more of an advantage? Sure. I want to say away teams won a slightly higher percentage then the home teams in extra innings

Well, Mets fans… Maybe we did the right thing after all Sucks for the Rangers, though. I have a soft spot for them, being the Texas team that aren't big stinky cheaters, so I don't love it when bad things happen to them.

Hm… can I blame Cashman for the Montas injury?
Oft-injured, known PED user, another guy plucked from pitching-friendly Oakland, lesson not learned from the Sonny Gray fiasco.
I said it was a decent trade at the deadline, but now I’ll be irrational and blame Cashman. Lousy GM that should’ve been fired a decade ago. It does however, open the door for the Schmidt and the other young guys coming up thru the system. Plus German should be good for about 90-120 innings before he turns into pumpkin. Severino can blow up at any given time as well.
More question marks for the Yankees, it seems.

Montas was going be a strong 5th starter if anything but it def does hurt them and you have to be careful with Nester injury as well They still got arms and a strong rotation. With Profar being out there i'd still sign him and put him in over Hicks

The injury isn't ideal but it's not one that'll sink the Yankees seasons imo. Unless it does in which case use this post to dunk on me

Unless it does in which case use this post to dunk on me Montas isn't a huge loss, but it's a loss and it means that they also have less wiggle room for their other injury-risk starters. If Sevy or Rodon goes down, then it gets real hairy.

The Texas Rangers were already investing $185 million in damaged goods when they signed Jacob deGrom. They shouldn't be surprised that he's already dealing with an injury on the first day of Spring Training.
deGrom has pitched one full season in the last five years. In 2018, he hyperextended his pitching elbow. In 2021, he was placed on the IL with tightness in his forearm and then again with soreness and inflammation in his elbow. In 2022, he suffered a stress reaction in Spring Training and didn't start for the Mets until August.
This current "side tightness" could be nothing, or it could be a precursor to a more serious or nagging injury that could sideline deGrom for an extended period of time. And considering he's entering his age-35 season, deGrom may not have a lot of time left to be on the sidelines. His window as an ace is closing, and considering these on-and-off injuries, it could be closing rapidly.

This is going to hurt some owners short term, but getting out of those restrictive regional cable deals that force blackouts on the consumers could benefit MLB in the long run.

AppleTV's coverage of Major League Baseball will sound a little different this season. Most notably, Katie Nolan won't be returning to the broadcast booth. www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2023/02/15/katie-nolan-melanie-newman-wont-return-apple-tv-mlb-coverage/11264109002/And now we wait for Katie Nolan to get her 1,000,000th chance from some heretofore unknown national sports network. She keeps getting opportunity after opportunity and flopping at every single one of them, yet will continue to get countless more chances because she's a pretty white girl. Somewhere in a board room right now, there's bound to be an executive at Peacock or FS1 or some streaming service that's saying, "Oh, Katie Nolan's a free agent? We've got to get her! This will definitely be the time people will want to watch her!"

So not only did Milwaukee win their salary arbritration case with Corbin Burnes, they manged to piss him off with how they argued he shouldn't get paid as much as he wanted because somehow, missing the playoffs was HIS fault and not the fault of the nonexistent bats or the idiot manager.

I have never understood arbitration as far as pissing on your star for cents on the dollar. Yes, every dollar counts in MLB because of the whole luxury tax situation but you are going to create bad vibes and players will remember that

Burnes is like one of the few things holding the Brewers head above water... not a smart move.

How many years does Burnes have until FA? I'd love to see him on a good team.
