I'm honestly curious at how many more hits we get with the shifts abolished. I think we might see some guys averages tick upwards pretty nicely. Poor Ryan Howard... he was a huge victim of that shit lol I think the part that will really help is the elimination of the 2nd Baseman in short right field. A lot more grounders should get through. I wish I could find the link to it, but I saw an image circulating on social media a few days ago that showed how teams can get around the shift rules and still in essence have the same defensive alignment that they would have had in 2022 and earlier. Without an image, it gets complicated, so stick with me. Basically, for a left-handed pull hitter, the team would move the left fielder to deep second base and vacate left field, meaning that only the third baseman and centerfielder would be responsible for covering leftfield in the event the batter slaps one to the opposite field. It would still basically give a team five infielders, but would also leave an enormous swath of the outfield open to an automatic double or possibly even triple if the batter pokes one to the opposite field.

So, it's a big risk... that unless you have a groundball pitcher on the mound it's probably a good idea not to do it.

Giants about to be used and abused for leverage even worse than Judge did to them.

It's effectively the same risk that you'd see from teams that employed an extreme shift over the past few seasons, basically daring a left-handed hitter to hit the ball anywhere other than to the right of second base. That's how you'd occasionally end up with something like Robinson Cano bunting down the third-base line and turning it into a double because nobody was there to cover that side of the infield. I'm not at all a fan of baseball demanding that defenses be locked in place, as I've always supported the mantra of "hit it where they ain't." If you're not good enough to hit the ball to a giant swath of open grass to the right of second base, then maybe there's not a spot for you on a big-league roster anymore. It's the same as hacking big men in basketball and daring them to get two free points at the charity stripe. If you can't hit your free throws, maybe there's not a spot for you in the NBA. Giants about to be used and abused for leverage even worse than Judge did to them. I for one cannot wait for the inevitable "the Red Sox were in on him but they came up just short" Tweet that we'll see this off-season.

Yankees have apparently found a LF solution
By having Judge play it. Judge is taking reps in LF as they want to have options when they want want Giancarlo to play RF. His arm and speed plays anywhere in the OF and with him LF on occasion and Bader in CF, they should be fine
Also, it is not like Giancarlo was ever a bad fielder. Yanks call themselves saving him when he got injured more as a DH than in the field.

Speaking of Yankees, well a former one
Damn, how far has Gary Sanchez falling off, he doesn't even have a team right now
He only just turned 30 and you would think a team would at least pick up his bat but interesting that he is still out there

WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU TO PLAY WITH YOUR CUP ANYMORE!!! Honestly, it's going to take some time to adapt. That's why they're doing it in Spring Training. But I like what I see so far. The games are noticeably faster.

Spring training and first month or so of the season are going to be a rough transition period so players get used to the new paradigm. But you don't got time to dick around on the mound or stepping out of the box anymore. Good.

The Cubs have won their first spring training game of the year, and per the new MLB Rules in place means the Cubs now get a bye into the NLCS!!
Will say first game of the year, the only ones who looked good in this first game were Nico Hoerner, Pete Crow Armstrong, David Bote and Matt Mervis. It was nice to see Brennen Davis in this game though hopefully he can stay healthy as he was in for Suzuki who had a tight oblique strain so was scratched from the starting lineup.

Imagine Nomar in this situation haha. His absurdly long glove gimmick would've had him striking out every at-bat. But also, Manfred does suck.

I think the only adjustment I'd make is maybe adding a bit of time to the clock in the 9th inning or later, but honestly once the players get used to it, I don't think we will see many of these violations being called, and certainly not late in games.

The Padres I have heard about their finances, only a matter of time till they start trading the team. They might win a championship in between, but that team is going to sell off eventually like the Marlins were in a few years.
