Jacob deGrom will undergo Tommy John's surgery. His season is done and he won't be back by June next year at earliest. Mets looking really vindicated right now.
Sucks to hear, but sadly not unexpected. I knew a lot of Mets fans who were gutted about him leaving, but between some of the stuff he apparently had to say about New York's handling of COVID and the fact that his arm has been a ticking time bomb for years now, I found myself barely flinching when he signed with Texas.

Damn, I feel awful for deGrom. I was afraid this was going to happen sooner or later.

Even as an Angels fan hearing that about DeGrom is very depressing. Rather have him making our guys look like fools up there instead of the "what ifs" his career is going to have.

So should we be alarmed at the amount of pitchers who are having Tommy John surgery this season? This has to be abnormally higher than the past. Is there any correlation to the Pitch Clock this season?

Is there any correlation to the Pitch Clock this season? No diff than any other season 32 players had TJ in 2021. 28 in 2022. I want to say up to this point there has maybe been like 10 so far in 2023

Aaron Boone needs to get thrown out of this game, that 3-1 pitch to Bauers, when are the robot umpires coming, MLB is a disgrace.

Is there any correlation to the Pitch Clock this season? Not at all. There's a lot of reasons why pitchers are having TJ surgery at a higher rate the last few years (and it isn't particularly higher this year), but the pitch clock has nothing to do with it.

Rangers are really lucky they're having a good season or this would look like even more of a disaster Really sucks deGrom's body is failing him, because he looked like a sure fire stud for years to come... no clue how he's gonna look after two Tommy John's...

His fastball went from 96 to 98-99 and his slider went up in speed, he chased velocity and his arm wasn't built to throw that hard constantly.

Luis Arraez is hitting over .400 At 57 games, Arraez is the latest into the season hitting .400 since Chipper Jones in 2008, when he was hitting over .400 well into June - 73 games into the season. I still vividly remember Nomar Garciaparra's flirtation with .400 in the summer of 2000, when he made it to July 20 - 91 games into the season - before he dipped below that mark for good. I hope Arraez makes a serious run at the record to give us something fun to talk about through the doldrums of summer baseball. Jacob deGrom will undergo Tommy John's surgery. His season is done and he won't be back by June next year at earliest. Mets looking really vindicated right now.

Jacob deGrom could end up being this generation's Sandy Koufax. A world-class, Hall of Fame caliber pitcher whose career was curtailed by injury. Koufax retired at age 30 with three Cy Young Awards, a career 2.76 ERA, and 2,396 Ks over 314 starts. deGrom right now at age 35 has two Cy Young Awards, a career 2.53 ERA, and 1,652 Ks over 215 starts.

I'm really surprised MLB hasn't postponed the Yankees-White Sox game yet. The air quality is absolutely garbage here. Being outside in this air for the time of the game is about the equivalent of smoking an entire pack of cigarettes in a day.
